The following conclusion was derived from the result of final 300-copy survey data, using SPSS 18.0 program. The data were analyzed by frequency, t-test, chi-squre independence test, ANOVA and Scheffe test. Firstly, when comparing change of design preference before the stay in Korea with after the stay in Korea, the biggest change in their preference was character casual style, while the least change was easy casual wear. In terms of duration of stay in Korea, the biggest change was from the group of over 3 years, and in the order of the group of 1-3years, and then lastly less than 1 year, which suggests that the longer the duration of stay, the bigger the change. When comparing preferred clothing color before the stay in Korea with after the stay in Korea, both before and after the stay in Korea had the highest preference for achromatic colors. The frequency of change was mostly from achromatic color to other colors. In the preferred clothing pattern, 'plain' was their favorite one before the stay in Korea, while it turned to 'nature pattern' after the stay in Korea, followed by 'plain' one. The results indicated a preference for slim designs and red colors. Jacket designs preferences were for a tight fit for size tolerance, stand collar style, and elastic band details for cuff styles. Pants design preferences were for a whole band waist belt type with a tight fit style such as leggings in pants silhouette, zipper details on the side line and ankle length. They also preferred styles with pads attached to underpants in the pad style and the part of the back waist in the pocket position. The survey showed four kinds of jacket design drawings on an ordinal scale rating. Results indicated a preference for set-in variation jackets with the red and gray color combination. Finally, we demonstrated bicycle wear design suggestions. The jacket applied different armhole line colors connected to the sleeve to make the waist slimmer; in addition, stretchable material helped improve armpit part functionality.

  • This study was performed to compare the color emotion and preference of Koreans and Chinese for a two-color combination by dyeing cotton fabric with persimmon and indigo and to establish prediction models of color preference. Nine specimens prepared by combining two different colored fabrics (persimmon and indigo) were evaluated for color emotion and preference by Korean and Chinese groups of female college students. Koreans described most specimens as natural and traditional, whereas the Chinese described them as more pleasant and elegant as well as warmer and lighter than Koreans did. The contrast tone was the most preferred combination by both groups, whereas it was perceived as more modern and less warm by Koreans. Relationships between physical color variables and color emotions were quantified; these relationships were applied to establish a prediction model of color preference with tone combination types for each group. These results could help in making the design of fashion textiles more preference- and emotion-oriented for Korean and Chinese consumers.
