In this study, the shear behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) beams that were retrofitted using precast panels of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) is presented. The precast UHPFRC panels were glued to the side surfaces of RC beams using epoxy adhesive in two different configurations: (i) retrofitting two sides, and (ii) retrofitting three sides. Experimental tests on the adhesive bond were conducted to estimate the bond capacity between the UHPFRC and normal concrete. All the specimens were tested in shear under varying levels of shear span-to-depth ratio (a/d=1.0; 1.5). For both types of configuration, the retrofitted specimens exhibited a significant improvement in terms of stiffness, load carrying capacity and failure mode. In addition, the UHPFRC retrofitting panels glued in three-sides shifted the failure from brittle shear to a more ductile flexural failure with enhancing the shear capacity up to 70%. This was more noticeable in beams that were tested with a/d=1.5. An approach for the approximation of the failure capacity of the retrofitted RC beams was evolved using a multi-level regression of the data obtained from the experimental work. The predicted values of strength have been validated by comparing them with the available test data. In addition, a 3-D finite element model (FEM) was developed to estimate the failure load and overall behaviour of the retrofitted beams. The FEM of the retrofitted beams was conducted using the non-linear finite element software ABAQUS.

This study presents a dry precast concrete (PC) beam-column connection, and its target seismic performance level is set to be emulative to the reinforced concrete (RC) intermediate moment resisting frame system specified in ACI 318 and ASCE 7. The key features include self-sustaining ability during construction with the dry mechanical splicing method, enabling emulative connection performances and better constructability. Test specimens with code-compliant seismic details were fabricated and tested under reversed cyclic loading, which included a PC beam-column connection specimen with dry connections and an RC control specimen. The test results showed that all the specimens failed in a similar failure mode due to plastic deformations in beam members, while the hysteretic response curve of the PC specimen showed comparable and emulative performances compared to the RC specimen. Seismic performance evaluation was quantitatively addressed, and on this basis, it confirmed that the presented system can fully satisfy all the required performance for the intermediate RC moment resisting frame.
This paper predicts the flexural behaviour of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with a precast strip of ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC). In the first phase, ultimate load capacity of preloaded and strengthened RC beams by UHPFRC was predicted by using various analytical models available in the literature. RC beams were preloaded under static loading approximately to 70%, 80% and 90% of ultimate load of control beams. The models such as modified Kaar and sectional analysis predicted the ultimate load in close agreement to the corresponding experimental observations. In the second phase, the famous fatigue life models such as Papakonstantinou model and Ferrier model were employed to predict the number of cycles to failure and the corresponding deflection. The models were used to predict the life of the (i) strengthened RC beams after subjecting them to different pre-loadings (70%, 80% and 90% of ultimate load) under static loading and (ii) strengthened RC beams after subjecting them to different preloading cycles under fatigue loading. In both the cases precast UHPFRC strip of 10 mm thickness is attached on the tension face. It is found that both the models predicted the number of cycles to failure and the corresponding deflection very close to the experimental values. It can be concluded that the models are found to be robust and reliable for cement based strengthening systems also. Further, the Wang model which is based on Palmgren-Miner's rule is employed to predict the no. of cycles to failure and it is found that the predicted values are in very good agreement with the corresponding experimental observations.

This study aims at developing a new seismic resistant method by using precast concrete wall panels for existing low-rise, reinforced concrete beam-column buildings such as school buildings. Three quasi-static hysteresis loading tests were performed on one unreinforced beam-column specimen and two reinforced specimens with U-type precast wall panels. Top shear connection of the PC panel was required to show the composite strength of RC column and PC wall panel. However, the strength of the connection did not influence directly on the ultimate loading capacities of the specimens in the positive loading because the loaded RC column push the side of PC wall panel and it moved horizontally before the shear connector receive the concentrated shear force in the positive loading process. Under the positive loading sequence(push loading), the reinforced concrete column and PC panel showed flexural strength which is larger than 97% of the composite section because of the rigid binding at the top of precast panel. Similar load-deformation relationship and ultimated horizontal load capacities were shown in the test of PR1-LA and PR1-LP specimens because they have same section dimension and detail at the flexural critical section. An average of 4.7 times increase in the positive maximum loading(average 967kN) and 2.7 times increase in the negative maximum loading(average 592.5kN) had resulted from the test of seismic resistant specimens with anchored and welded steel plate connections than that of unreinforced beam-column specimen. The maximum drift ratios were also shown between 1.0% and 1.4%.

Precast concrete (PC) modules have been increased its use in modular buildings due to their better seismic performance than steel modules. The main issue of the PC module is to ensure structural performance with appropriate connection methods. This study proposed a PC modular beam system for simple construction and improved structural and splicing performance. This modular system consisted of modules with steel plates inserted, and it is easy to construct by bolted connection. The steel plates play the role of tensile rebar and stirrup, which has the advantage of structural performance. The structural performance of the proposed PC modular beam system was evaluated by flexural test on one reinforced concrete (RC) beam specimen consisting of a monolithic, and two PC specimens with the proposed PC modular beam system. The results demonstrated that the proposed PC modular beam system achieved approximately 86% of the structural performance compared to the RC monolithic specimen, with similar ductility of approximately 1.06 fold greater.

As the height of the modular buildings increases, their stability becomes more and more dependent on the core. All traditional construction methods in structural concrete and steel can be utilized for cores in modular buildings but a core system with dry connection is more desirable to complete a greater degree of factory finish and faster erection of modular buildings. In order to do that, the hybrid PC(precast concrete) panel, which has a pair of C-shaped steel beams combined at the top and bottom of a concrete wall, was developed, In this study the cyclic lateral loading test on the hybrid PC panel is carried out and the panel configurations are examined to enhance the structural performance in comparison with the RC wall. Experimental results show that the strength of hybrid PC panel is about 70% of thar ot RC wall and the anchorage of vertical reinforcing bar welded to C-shaped steel beam needs to be improved.

Fragility curves are being more significant as a useful tool for evaluating the relationship between the earthquake intensity measure and the effects of the engineering demand parameter on the buildings. In this paper, the effect of different site conditions on the vulnerability of the structures was examined through the fragility curves taking into account different strength capacities of the precast columns. Thus, typical existing single-story precast RC industrial buildings which were built in Turkey after the year 2000 were examined. The fragility curves for the three typical existing industrial structures were derived from an analytical approach by performing non-linear dynamic analyses considering three different soil conditions. The Park and Ang damage index was used in order to determine the damage level of the members. The spectral acceleration (Sa) was used as the ground motion parameter in the fragility curves. The results indicate that the fragility curves were derived for the structures vary depending on the site conditions. The damage probability of exceedance values increased from stiff site to soft site for any Sa value. This difference increases in long period in examined buildings. In addition, earthquake demand values were calculated by considering the buildings and site conditions, and the effect of the site class on the building damage was evaluated by considering the Mean Damage Ratio parameter (MDR). Achieving fragility curves and MDR curves as a function of spectral acceleration enables a quick and practical risk assessment in existing buildings.

Precast large panel structures have various connection system such as the horizontal slab-to-wall connection, the vertical wall to wall connection, horizontal slab-to-slab connection, etc. Horizontal connection is connected by vertical tie bars, and vertical joint is connected loop bars and shear keys. The basic function is equalized deformations on later forces and the entire wall panel assembly acts as monolithic actions. Under lateral load some slip occurs in almost vertical connections. The shape and detail of precast connections are very important to the monolithic behavior of overall structures. The paper is a study on the design method and new elasto-plastic analysis of the connections by rigid-bodies spring model.

A simple method of assessing the risk of overturning of precast reinforced concrete columns is presented in this paper. The displacement-based methodology introduced herein is distinguished from conventional force-based codified methods of aseismic design of structures. As evidenced by results from field tests precast reinforced concrete columns can be displaced to a generous limit without sustaining damage and then fully recover from most of the displacement afterwards. Realistic predictions of the displacement demand of such (rocking) system in conjunction with the displacement capacity estimates enable fragility curves for overturning to be constructed. The interesting observation from the developed fragility curves is that the probability of failure of the precast soft-storey column decreases with increasing size of the column importantly illustrating the "size effect" phenomenon.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the behavior of the bearing precast concrete (pc) wall structure with hollow core based on experimental tests. In order to evaluate the cyclic performance of the pc walls. Too one story pc walls and ond one reinforced concrete wall are made. The experimental results of pc walls were compared with those values of reinforced concrete (rc) wall. The structural behaviors of pc wall structure with hollow core are similar to those of reinforced concrete bearing wall structure. This study shows that the pc wall with hollow core could be treated as rc wall when designs the pc wall structure against lateral loads
