Development and Applicatin of EMTP Based Power Cable Simulator for Underground Transmission Cables (EMTP 기반 지중송전케이블 시뮬레이터 개발 및 적용)

  • This paper discusses the characteristics of sheath circulating current as well as the development and application of new software for underground power cable systems. Generally, in steady state, high sheath circulating current causes the increase of sheath temperature and thermal resistance which leads to the steeply reduction of the power capacity. Therefore, the exact calculation of sheath circulating current is required for analysis about the influence of high sheath current on permissible current. In this paper, Power Cable Simulator is developed for calculation of the sheath current. It can analyse the sheath current by real time. It is also easier to use than conventional software, such as EMTP and CabSim, because all the data for calculating the cable parameters are stored in a database(DB) within Power Cable Simulator. In addition, the accuracy of Power Cable Simulator is also proved through the comparison among the current calculated by Power Cable Simulator, EMTP and Cabsim with measured current.

  • In this study, we design and implement the 20kVA TCSC(Thyrister Controlled Series Compensator) simulator It was tested on the KERI simulator The KERI simulator is a analog simulator for power system at the KERI power system division lab. It consist of many power system components, which are a 380V 5kVA generators, scale-downed transmission line modules, transformers, switches, FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission System) devices. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of 20kVA TCSC simulator and its basic test results.

  • In this paper, Power Management System(PMS) simulator for Liquid Nature Gas Carrier(LNGC) is developed. Major components of power system for LNGC, such as generator, diesel engine and governor, transformer, circuit breaker, and 3 phase loads models are built based on MATLAB/SIMULINK. With these designed major parts, PMS simulator modeling is carried out. Based on MATLAB/Graphical User Interface, PMS simulator control for LNGC, and Human Machine Interface for monitoring is designed. PMS simulator for LNGC carries out simulation according to sequence of characteristics analysis. By comparing results of predicted simulation for each sequence to that of characteristics analysis, the reliability of PMS simulator for LNGC will be verified.

  • In this paper, electrical power subsystem(EPS) simulator for KOMPSAT 2 has been analyzed designed and simulated by object oriented design(OOP) method. To design EPS simulator, the EPS modules, which modeled solar array, solar array regulator, deployment device controller, battery, power control unit, and EPS control unit, are modeled. To verify the EPS simulator, the modules has been simulated. By OOP designs, the EPS simulator is very powerful because this method is applicable to design other EPS simulator.

  • Power System deregulation has become a worldwide trend which introduces competition in electric power system in order to realize efficient electricity production and investment. In this regard, it is very important to develop an electricity market simulator so that it is to analyze power market and study bidding strategies, market operation and market power and train market participants. In this paper, we introduce general functions and a structure of market simulator, also design the framework of the Korean market simulator based on core concepts of electricity market simulator.

  • This paper presents a graphical windows-based program for the education and training for novel network reduction. The object of developed simulator is to provide users with a simple and useable tool for gaining an intuitive feel for power system analysis. The developed simulator consists of the main module (MMI,GUI), the location marginal price module (LMP), the clustering module and network reduction module. Each module has a separate graphical and interactive interfacing window. The developed simulator needs with the PSS/E input data format, generator cost function, location information. Line admittances of reduced network was determined by using the power flow method(Newton-Raphson). So line flow of reduced network is almost same to original power system. Results of reduced network are compared on the window in the tabular format. Therefore, the developed simulator can be utilized as a useful tool for effective education and training for power system analysis.

  • As the technology is developing, the power system is also developing. Nowaday the power system operation has been complicated because of new technology development, new electric equipments and new operation method of the power system. As the electric equipments performance developing, the fault ratio of power system has been decreased. Therefore, new operation method is needed. More complicated the power system operation method, we need more the power system simulator to train and educate the novice power system operators. In this paper, we made real-time power system simulator using LabVIEW through the TCP/IP communication. With this simulator the instructor can simulate the trainee within various unpredicted cases that real power system could happen.

  • This paper describes a load simulator with power recovery capability, which is based on the voltage source converter-inverter set. The load simulator can save the electric energy that should be consumed to test the operation and performance of the power quality compensator and the power equipment. The load simulator consists of a converter-inverter set with a DSP controller for system control and PWM pulse generation. The converter operates as a universal load to model the linear load and the non-linear load, while the inverter feed the energy back to the power source with harmonic compensation. the performance of proposed load simulator was analyzed with scaled-model experiment, interconnected with the active power filter. The experimental results confirms that the proposed load simulator can be utilized to test the performance of active power filter.

  • This paper describes a load simulator with power-recovery capability, which is based on the voltage source converter-inverter set.   • The space power system for communication satellite which employs the direct energy transfer (DET) method consists of solar array, battry, shunt regulator, charger/discharger and power control unit (PCU). In this paper, the development of the DET power system charger/discharger unit and a microprocessor based PCU is developed for simplicity and flexiblity in the modificatin of control algorithm. A 28V bus voltage, 400W power rting power simulator is built and tested to verify the operation of the simulator at each mode and the stability of mode transition is analyzed.
