Used analog control systems have been converted into digital control systems due to performance degradation and difficulty of maintenance. There are few domestic DCS (Distribued Control System)s that have been applied to Bower plant. To apply a demestic DCS to power plant, the reliability, redundacny, and fault tolerance of DCS is important. Besides those items, the control action of control function block is also important. In this paper, we describe the requirements that PID control function block has to have, and implement a PID control function block that satisfies those requirements. Finally. simulation result using digital simulator for boiler system in thermal power plant shows the validity of a implemented PID control function block.
The paper presents functional modelling and its application for diagnosis in nuclear power plants. Functional modelling is defined and its relevance for coping with the complexity of diagnosis in large scale systems like nuclear plants is explained. The diagnosis task is analyzed and it is demonstrated that the levels of abstraction in models for diagnosis must reflect plant knowledge about goals and functions which is represented in functional modelling. Multilevel flow modelling (MFM), which is a method for functional modelling, is introduced briefly and illustrated with a cooling system example. The use of MFM for reasoning about causes and consequences is explained in detail and demonstrated using the reasoning tool, the MFMSuite. MFM applications in nuclear power systems are described by two examples: a PWR; and an FBR reactor. The PWR example show how MFM can be used to model and reason about operating modes. The FBR example illustrates how the modelling development effort can be managed by proper strategies including decomposition and reuse.

As it is the most important to make sure security and reliability for nuclear Power Plant, it's considered the most crucial issues to develop a fault detective and diagnostic system in spite of multiple hardware redundancy in itself. To develop an algorithm for a fault diagnosis in the nuclear PWR steam generator, this paper proposes a method based on ART2(adaptive resonance theory 2) neural network that senses and classifies troubles occurred in the system. The fault diagnosis system consists of fault detective part to sense occurred troubles, parameter estimation part to identify changed system parameters and fault classification part to understand types of troubles occurred. The fault classification part Is composed of a fault classifier that uses ART2 neural network. The Performance of the proposed fault diagnosis a18orithm was corroborated by applying in the steam generator.

It is not easy to monitor and identify all engine faults and conditions using conventional fault detection approaches like the GPA (Gas Path Analysis) method due to the nature and complexity of the faults. This study therefore focuses on a model based diagnostic method using Neural Network algorithms proposed for fault detection on a turbo shaft engine (PW 206C) selected as the power plant for a tilt rotor type unmanned aerial vehicle (Smart UAV). The model based diagnosis should be performed by a precise performance model. However component maps for the performance model were not provided by the engine manufacturer. Therefore they were generated by a new component map generation method, namely hybrid method using system identification and genetic algorithms that identifies inversely component characteristics from limited performance deck data provided by the engine manufacturer. Performance simulations at different operating conditions were performed on the PW206C turbo shaft engine using SIMULINK. In order to train the proposed BPNN (Back Propagation Neural Network), performance data sets obtained from performance analysis results using various implanted component degradations were used. The trained NN system could reasonably detect the faulted components including the fault pattern and quantity of the study engine at various operating conditions.
Among the various elements of probabilistic safety assessment (PSA), human failure events (HFEs) and their dependencies are major contributors to the quantification of risk of a nuclear power plant. Currently, the dependency among HFEs is reflected using a post-processing method in PSA, wherein several drawbacks, such as limited propagation of minimal cutsets through the fault tree and improper truncation of minimal cutsets exist. In this paper, we propose a method to model the HFE dependency directly in a fault tree using the if-then-else logic. The proposed method proved to be equivalent to the conventional post-processing method while addressing the drawbacks of the latter. We also developed a software tool to facilitate the implementation of the proposed method considering the need for modeling the dependency between multiple HFEs. We applied the proposed method to a specific case to demonstrate the drawbacks of the conventional post-processing method and the advantages of the proposed method. When applied appropriately under specific conditions, the direct fault-tree modeling of HFE dependency enhances the accuracy of the risk quantification and facilitates the analysis of minimal cutsets.
Fault tree analysis is the most widely used saftly analysis technique in industry. However, the analysis is often applied manually, and there is no systematic and automated approach available to validate the analysis result. In this paper, we demonstrate that a real-time model checker UPPAAL is useful in formally specifying the required behavior of safety-critical software and to validate the accuracy of manually constructed fault trees. Functional requirements for emergency shutdown software for a nuclear power plant, named Wolsung SDS2, are used as an example. Fault trees were initially developed by a group of graduate students who possess detailed knowledge of Wolsung SDS2 and are familiar with safety analysis techniques including fault tree analysis. Functional requirements were manually translated in timed automata format accepted by UPPAAL, and the model checking was applied using property specifications to evaluate the correctness of the fault trees. Our application demonstrated that UPPAAL was able to detect subtle flaws or ambiguities present in fault trees. Therefore, we conclude that the proposed approach is useful in augmenting fault tree analysis.

Power supply for Nuclear Power Plant was developed, and MMI monitoring circuit was added to the main function of power supply. The developed power supply is designed to show equal or higher performance compared with the existing power supplies. Performance of the power supply is verified by simulations, experiments, and authentication test for Q-class, he status of power supply and fault waveform can be displayed and analyzed on PC by RS-232C port. By adopting the latest parts, mainly domestic models, production cost and delivery can be reduced. Replacement period of capacitor can be extended by life estimation.

Large Power transformer is a complex and critical component of power plant and consists of cellulosic paper, insulation oil, core, coil etc. Insulation materials of transformer and related equipment break down to liberate dissolved gas due to corona, partial discharge, pyrolysis or thermal decomposition. The dissolved gas kinds can be related to the type of electrical faults, and the rate of gas generation can indicate the severity of the fault. The identities of gases being generated are using very useful to decide the condition of transformation status. Therefore dissolved gas analysis is one of the best condition monitoring methods for power transformer. Also, on-line multi-gas analyzer has been developed and installed to monitor the condition of critical transformers. Rogers method, IEC method, key gas method and Duval Triangle method are used to failure diagnosis typically, and those methods are using the ratio or kinds of dissolved gas to evaluate the condition of transformer. This paper analyzes the reliability of transformer diagnostic methods considering actual dissolved gas concentration. Fault diagnosis is performed based on the dissolved gas of five transformers which experienced various fault respectively in the field, and the diagnosis result is compared with the actual off-line fault analysis. In this comparison result, Diagnostic methods using dissolved gas ratio like Rogers method, IEC method are sometimes fall outside the ratio code and no diagnosis but Duval triangle method and Key gas method is correct comparatively.
The use of eco-friendly energy in the offshore plant system is expanding because conventional generators are operated by fossil fuel or natural gas. Eco-friendly energy, which replaces existing power generation methods, should be capable of generating the power for lighting protection equipment, airborne fault indication, parameter measurement, and others. Most of the eco-friendly energy used in offshore plant facilities is solar and wind power. In the case of using photovoltaic power, because the structure must be constructed based as flat solar panels, it can be damaged easily by the wind. Therefore, there is a need for a new generation system composed of a spherical structure that does not require a separate structure and is less influenced by the wind. Considering these characteristics, in this study we designed, fabricated, and tested a unit that could provide the most efficient spherical photovoltaic power generation considering wind direction and wind pressure. Our test results indicated that the proposed system reduced costs because it did not require any separate structure, used eco-friendly energy, reduced carbon dioxide emissions, and expanded the proportion of eco-friendly energy use by offshore plant facilities.

This paper introduces the first vital area identification (VAI) process for the physical protection of nuclear power plants (NPPs) during low power and shutdown (LPSD) operation. This LPSD VAI is based on the 3rd generation VAI method which very efficiently utilizes probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) event trees (ETs). This LPSD VAI process was implemented to the virtual NPP during LPSD operation in this study. Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) had developed the 2nd generation full power VAI method that utilizes whole internal and external (fire and flooding) PSA results of NPPs during full power operation. In order to minimize the huge burden of the 2nd generation full power VAI method, the 3rd generation full power VAI method was developed, which utilizes ETs and minimal PSA fault trees instead of using the whole PSA fault tree. In the 3rd generation full power VAI method, (1) PSA ETs are analyzed, (2) minimal mitigation systems for avoiding core damage are selected from ETs by calculating system-level target sets and prevention sets, (3) relatively small sabotage fault tree that has the systems in the shortest system-level prevention set is composed, (4) room-level target sets and prevention sets are calculated from this small sabotage fault tree, and (5) the rooms in the shortest prevention set are defined as vital areas that should be protected. Currently, the 3rd generation full power VAI method is being employed for the VAI of Korean NPPs. This study is the first development and application of the 3rd generation VAI method to the LPSD VAI of NPP. For the LPSD VAI, (1) many LPSD ETs are classified into a few representative LPSD ETs based on the functional similarity of accident scenarios, (2) a few representative LPSD ETs are simplified with some VAI rules, and then (3) the 3rd generation VAI is performed as mentioned in the previous paragraph. It is well known that the shortest room-level prevention sets that are calculated by the 2nd and 3rd generation VAI methods are identical.
