This paper presents an application of a multiphase interleaved converter in tracking maximum power points (MPPs) of a photovoltaic (PV) panel regardless of environmental variations. Maximum power from the panel was extracted by means of the well-known the perturb-and-observe (P&O) method. The switching control technique used an interleaving scheme based on multi-unit synchronization. The converter performed harmonic attenuation without affecting the tracking speed. This approach is straightforward, reliable and inexpensive, and could be applied to any higher number of switching cells without difficulty.
The recent growth in the use of impactive and nonlinear loads, electronic devices sensitive to power quality has caused many power quality problems. Dynamic voltage restorers(DVR) are known as the best effective and economic means to compensate for power quality problems(especially, voltage sag and swell). In this paper, we addresses the detecting algorithms of an voltage sag and phase for operating DVR. Experimental results are included to illustrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithm.
A power line communications, power, the outgoing line is a means of communication. DC 12 volt power lines in the system over the 2-wire control signals with the power to send the cargo configuration, and, in the basement living space, temperature, humidity, dust, CO2 sensors, and through the cooperation of the real-time detection and valves of the appropriate amount of wind, fan was designed to control. By the system's ability to communicate and control the room temperature or the status of amount of wind sent to the central system to transmit and receive signals to the center of the future, the ability to control the company said. In addition, the system HMI (Human Machine Interface) terminal by the direct control and if necessary personal portable devices to communicate with the living conditions of the underground environment in the best state that the purpose is to build.
This paper introduces the main function and protection method of IGBT gate driver that designed by KOROS. Recently, the applications of insulated gate bipolar transistors(IGBTs) have expanded widely, particularly in the area of railway converters. This driver is suitable for railway traction applications, so they are designed for circumstance of railway vehicle such as vibration. The input control power for this driver is supplied from battery charger of railway. it is no necessary an isolated power supply board or auxiliary power supply, with substantial savings in cost and space in railway applications. This gate driver can be used wide range of input voltage. So, performance of the driver has no relation with the battery voltage(70V∼110V). The protection methods of IGBT gate driver have many kind of ways, but this gate driver it designed to apply to converter for railway system, so this gate driver includes protection for arm short current and low control power voltage, etc. And the process of protection method and protection reference value are optimized by means of sufficient test with our own facilities.
A PSV (pressurizer safety valve) popping test carried out in the early phases of a refueling outage may trigger a test-induced LOCA(loss of coolant accident) if a PSV fails to fully close and is stuck in a partially open position. According to a KSNP (Korea standard nuclear power plant) low power and shutdown PSA (probabilistic safety assessment), the failure of a high pressure safety injection (HPSI) accompanied by the failure of a PSV to fully close was identified as a dominant accident sequence with a significant impact on low power and shutdown risks (LPSR). In this study, we aim to investigate and verify a new means for mitigating this type of accident using a thermal-hydraulic analysis. In particular, we explore the applicability of an aggressive cool-down combined with operator actions. The results of the various sensitivity studies performed there will help reduce LPSR and improve Refueling outage safety.
HFPD(High Frequency Partial Discharge) measurement has been widely performed to diagnosis of cable system in the world although Korea just begin. The efficiency of measurement has been reported and proved by many researchers who are engaged in the diagnosis of high power apparatus. LG Cable has investigated the technology of diagnosis for cable system by means of PD measurement for 10 years. In this paper, PD measurement with portable device was performed to evaluate the quality of the 154kV transmission line and the 22.9kV XLPE cable line. Test results are shown that the HFPD detection technology is very attractive for the diagnosis of power cable system by high detection sensitivity at on-site.
This paper proposes two SRM driving systems using a variable dc-link voltage controlled by a single-phase inverter. Two SRM converter topologies of a half bridge type and a full bridge type are proposed according to the power circuits of an inverter. The phase current can be controlled by means of a PWM controller at the inverter, and the turn-on/off angle at the phase switches can be controlled by a position sensor at the converter in the drive system. The inverter acts as a peak-current limiter if the transient current exceeds its maximum value. SRMs using the proposed topologies maintain high efficiency due to energy regeneration after the turn-off of power switches. The operational modes of the proposed topologies are verified by simulation and experimental results.
The increased integration of fuel cells with power electronics, critical loads, and control systems has prompted recent interest in accurate electrical terminal models of the polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell. Advancement in computing technologies, particularly parallel computation techniques and various real-time simulation tools have allowed the prototyping of novel apparatus to be investigated in a virtual system under a wide range of realistic conditions repeatedly, safely, and economically. This paper builds upon both advancements and provides a means of optimized model construction boosting computation speeds for a fuel cell model on a real-time simulator which can be used in a power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) application. Significant improvement in computation time has been achieved. The effectiveness of the proposed model developed on Opal RT's RT-Lab Matlab/Simulink based real-time engineering simulator is verified using experimental results from a Ballard Nexa fuel cell system.
Some observations from the examination of actual manhour curves for the power plant design engineering obtained from Sargent & Lundy Engineers and of a few of the model curves proposed by Bechtel, are analyzed in this paper. A model curve representing typical design engineering manhour has been determined as a probability density function for the Gamma Distribution. By means of this model curve, we strategically forecast the future engineering manpower requirements to meet the Government's long range nuclear power plan. As a sensitivity analysis, the directions for the localization of nuclear power plant design engineering, are studied in terms of the performance factor for the experienced versus inexperienced engineers.
As power demand increases gradually, the call for underground transmission system increases. But it is very difficult and high in cost to construct new ducts and/or tunnels for power cables in metropolitan areas. HTS (High Temperature Superconducting) cable has the several useful characteristics such as increased power density, stronger fields and/or reduced losses. Therefore HTS cable can allow more power to be moved in existing ducts, which means very large economical and environmental benefits. In these days, companies world-wide have conducted researches on HTS cable. A development project for a 22.9kV class HTS cable is proceeding at a research center and university in Korea. In this paper, we investigate the expected price of HTS cable to have a merit in viewpoint of economic aspect. First, life-cycle cost of conventional cable is calculated and based on this, the expected price of HTS cable is evaluated, which HTS cable is competitive against conventional cable.
