  • We propose an Power line communication, also known as Power line Digital Subscriber Line (PDSL), mains communication, power line telecom (PLT), or power line networking (PLN), or Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) are systems for carrying data on a conductor also used for electric power transmission. Power line communications can also be used to interconnect home computers, peripherals or other networked consumer peripherals. Specifications for power line home networking have been developed by a number of different companies within the framework of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance, the Universal Powerline Association and the HD-PLC Alliance.

  • In this paper, the results of field testing of high-speed power line in-home networking in Korea are reported. When multiple networks share a common channel, they can interfere destructively and reduce system capacity. This is major problem in-home power line communications, especially in MDU deployments. The effects of neighboring network interference in power line communications are reported.

  • If LED lighting is to be used in home networking, a home gateway and power line communication are needed in delivering data. In addition, an appropriate multiple access scheme reflecting LED's property is required. In this paper, a home networking system that can serve wide in-building area by integrating PLC and VLC, is proposed and implemented, then its performance is measured. A binary CDMA is used in the multiple access since this scheme is good for nonlinear device like LED, while infrared is used in the upstream transmission.

Design of Channel Impedance Measurement Equipment for Indoor Power Line Communications (옥내 전력선 통신 채널 임피던스 측정 장치 설계)

  • This paper describe a method for measuring line impedance as a function of frequency for an energized powerline in normal operation. A small sinusoidal signal of a powerline communication utility frequency 30khz$\sim$1Mhz band is continuously injected into the line, and a implemented impedance analyzer calculates the indoor powerline channel impedance from the measured magnitude and phase of resulting voltage and current. The impedance measurement is executed over a range of frequencies to produce a wideband impedance versus frequency characteristic. Implemented impedance analyzer can analysis powerline communication environments measuring line impedance due to load caused in indoor. And measured analysis information through the database can use to evaluate performance of modem and to decide test environment standard.

  • The Home network system means that information appliances, Home PCs, etc., using wired or wireless network method enable to control and share with peripheral devices such as internet, shared data, a scanner and a printer, and it is networking solution, which intelligent communication will be possible as the system which can do a remote control such as TV Set, refrigerators, air conditioners, DVD players, digital camcorders based on external network using an internet, a potable information terminal and a mobile phone whenever, wherever and freely. In this study, the home network interface solution is used one of the wired network standards, PLC (Power-Line Communication) technology, so we can construct of intelligent home network's home controller without re-build a network at home. On keeping with current waves of thought, we will focus on a home controller development with great interest which is enabled to do an effective managed control, applying intelligent home network technology which can be new paradigm like a cyber apartment.

  • In this paper, we describe the internet-based remote home automation system that con control and manage home appliances or digital devices bi-directionally through Internet. The platform-independency of VRML and Java applet enables users to access their home appliances and to check current state of them in t he virtual reality environment. The main focus is on three aspects. One is on the virtual reality technology to support the user interface efficiently by using 3D GUI in web-browser. Another is on the system architecture that consists of Home server and its manager server called Gate server in this paper. These servers have been implemented by Java RMI which is the basic single programming interface for distribution of objects and services using Java technology. The third, remote PLC controller and each digital devices are composed of home networking by PLC using CEBus protocol.

  • Considerable efforts has been recently devoted to the determination of accurate channel models for the power line environment, both for the indoor and outdoor cases. The common limitation of the known and previously published models is the particular type of approach followed. This paper is concerned with a power line channel characteristic measurement for the more fast and efficiently power line communication experiment. The need arises from the fact that indoor power cables consist of conductors and inductors. A capacitive load simulator is a essential equipment in the power line modem development for indoor power line network. We accomplished a channel data base by the frequency response method about the total 224 capacitor load cases. On the basis of this measurement modeling it is here revealed that the power line communication channel is a more deterministic media.

  • 오늘날 대부분의 기기들은 사용하지 않는 상태에서 단지 플러그만 꼽혀 있어도 전력을 소모하는데 이를 대기전력(standby power)라고 한다. 오디오와 비디오 제품의 경우 리모콘이나 시간예약 기능이 추가되어 전력을 소모하지만 대기전력절감을 위한 EPA, GEEA, AGO, IEA 및 국내의 KEMCO의 노력으로 off-line기기의 대기전력은 기술적으로 충분히 감소시킬 수 있는 단계에 이르렀다. 지능형 home networking 또는 smart home이 차세대 성장 동력으로 추진되는 등 정보가전기기의 Network화에 의한 대기전력은 점차 증가할 전망이다. 본 논문에서는 Networked기기의 대기전력절감의 최근 동향에 대해서 기술하였다.
