  • Recently, various measures have been discussed for overcoming depletion of fossil fuels and environmental pollution. One of the measures is electric vehicles. But electric vehicles has some limitations from high cost of battery and low efficiency, so operation distance of electric cars is limited. Also there are difficulties that charging lines should be connected by an electric car whenever it charges. Thus, many studies have been conducted to overcome the limitation using conventional batteries of electric vehicles. As a result, the OLEV(On-Line Electric Vehicle) was developed. But the OLEV system is some limitations. The OLEV system causes power quality problems when it charges. Power quality problem cannot be ignored because OLEV systems are closely connected by distribution grids. In this paper, the OLEV system is designed by using PSCAD/EMTDC, and the power quality is measured and evaluated. Power quality is divided by two cases; harmonics and high-frequency. Harmonics were evaluated according to IEEE Std. 519-1992. But the evaluation of High-frequency could not take it because there was no standard. For this reason, the data measured by OLEV system was compared with the EN50065 regulation.

  • Electric power has traditionally been supplied to the demander through power generation, its transmission, and final distribution system. It is, however, expected that the various dispersed power system will be located near demanders and act as a power source based on the efficient management of electric power demanders and the optimal utilization of substitute energy. More stable electric power and efficient utilization of various power sources can be guranteed through the connection of the dispersed power system into the existing power system. It is the purpose of this study that, in the case of the connection of dispersed power system into the existing distribution line, effects of the connection on the power quality and plans for protection of power equipments are discussed and solutions of them are proposed.

  • The DSTATCOM(Distribution Static Synchronous Compensator) is one of the Custom Power Devices that can regulate voltage. The DSTATCOM operates as a shunt connected static var compensator whose capacitive or inductive output current can be controlled independent of the system voltage. The magnitude of the compensated voltage is limited by characteristics of the system and the load. Compensation capability of the DSTATCOM which can inject 1 MVAR reactive power was simulated by EMTDC under several conditions. This paper analyzes the effect of the DSTATCOM's compensation considering the length and kind of distribution line, the power factor and magnitude of the load, and the duration and magnitude of the voltage variation.

  • DSTATCOM(distribution static compensator) is one of the custom power devices, and protects a distribution line from unbalanced and harmonic current caused by non-linear and unbalanced loads. Researches about DSTATCOM are mainly divided two parts, one is the calculation of compensation current and the other part is the current control. Conventional researches use a LPF(low pass filter) to eliminate ripple component at the calculation of compensation current. But this method has a problem that LPF's characteristics restrict the compensation performance of instantaneous active and reactive power. This paper proposes a calculation of compensation current using state observer that can be a counterproposal of conventional methods using LPF. Improved performance of instantaneous active and reactive power compensation was shown by experiments.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for a distribution board that can monitor the leakage current of a load distribution line in real time. The developed distribution board was fabricated by applying IEC 61439-1. It consists of the distribution board and an alarm device. The work process for making the distribution board was compliant with the KEMC (Korea Electrical Manufacturers Cooperative) regulations. And the AC distribution board range is 1,000 V. In addition, the voltage in DC is less than 1500 V. The distribution board receives a 3-phases and 4-wires power supply system and can supply power to the load of a maximum of 32 single or three phase distribution circuits. Also, leakage current measured on the power distribution board was used by sensors installed. The SOP of the developed distribution board consists of the installation standards for the short circuit alarm device and sensor, the surge protection device, switches and indication lamps, and other devices. The operation procedure was prepared so that each manufacturing step of the distribution board must be confirmed by the persons in charge of preparation, production, quality control and approval before moving forward to the next step.

  • Uninterrupted power supply has become indispensable during the maintenance task of active electric power lines as a result of today's highly information-oriented society and increasing demand of electric utilities. The maintenance task has the risk of electric shock and the danger of falling from high place. Therefore it is necessary to realize an autonomous robot system. In order to realize these tasks autonomously, the there dimensional position of target object such as electric line and the stand of insulator must be recognized accurately and rapidly. The insertion task of an electric line into a sleeve is selected as the typical task of the maintenance of active electric power distribution lines in this paper. A modified hough transform is applied to the recognition of the center of electric line and optimal target position calculation method is newly derived in order to recognize the center 3 dimensional position of the electric line. By the proposed method, it is proved that the center position of the electric line can be recognized without respect to the noise of image and the shape of electric lines and the insertion task of an electric tine is realized.

  • Nowadays, economical and social environments are changing to the type of an advanced country for development of techniques in power industry. So most of workers are recently avoiding the 3D works and asking for safety of working environment, etc. in highly dangerous parts such as hot line working on distribution lines, especially. Therefore, most advanced countries are using the support-arm or robotic systems on distribution line works for securing the construction reliability, economical feasibility and protection of linemen from the electric shock and so forth. In special Japanese electric power companies are using the robotic system named manipulator. In Korea, a support-arm has been developed for safety and facility in live working on distribution lines but not widely supplied. In this paper we will introduce development cases of support arm and manipulator robot for live working on distribution lines.

  • Unbundled power quality service is paid much attention under the circumstances of deregulation and diversification of needs of customers for quality and price of electric power. Moreover, distributed generators (DGs) such as photovoltaic generations and wind turbines will be introduced to distribution system more and more, and reverse flow of active power has possibility to cause new problems in the distribution system such as voltage rise of distribution line and protection problem. Flexible, Reliable and Intelligent Electrical eNergy Delivery System, which is called FRIENDS, has been proposed as one of promising distribution system for such requirements, and intensive studies are under way. One of features of the system is introducing Quality Control Center (QCC) into the system for unbundled power quality service and easy installation of DGs. Two types of QCCs for such purposes are proposed, and simulation results are shown in this paper.

  • This paper presents the result of survey of case study for harmonics in electrical installations of buildings. Recently, many power electronic equipments(power converter, computers, air conditioners electronic ballasts for fluorescent lamps and so on) are used in office buildings, and harmonic current from them influence the other equipments in a distribution line. Notably, voltage distortion or voltage harmonics may approach or exceed is allowable level in power distribution system. Individual electric power consumers and end-users and responsible for reducing current harmonics while companies or utilities are responsible for reducing voltage harmonics at the point of common coupling in distribution system. As for harmonics, which one of the electric power qualities, it becomes important to obtain harmonic voltage/current distribution of the power system precisely because the use of power electronic apparatus in increasing. To suppress harmonics in electrical ins tallations of buildings, one of many methods suggest that resonance frequencies are controlled by modulating the capacities of high-voltage customer's capacitors.

  • In nuclear power plants (NPPs), periodic sensor calibrations are required to assure that sensors are operating correctly. By checking the sensor's operating status at every fuel outage, faulty sensors may remain undetected for periods of up to 24 months. Moreover, typically, only a few faulty sensors are found to be calibrated. For the safe operation of NPP and the reduction of unnecessary calibration, on-line instrument calibration monitoring is needed. In this study, principal component-based auto-associative support vector regression (PCSVR) using response surface methodology (RSM) is proposed for the sensor signal validation of NPPs. This paper describes the design of a PCSVR-based sensor validation system for a power generation system. RSM is employed to determine the optimal values of SVR hyperparameters and is compared to the genetic algorithm (GA). The proposed PCSVR model is confirmed with the actual plant data of Kori Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 and is compared with the Auto-Associative support vector regression (AASVR) and the auto-associative neural network (AANN) model. The auto-sensitivity of AASVR is improved by around six times by using a PCA, resulting in good detection of sensor drift. Compared to AANN, accuracy and cross-sensitivity are better while the auto-sensitivity is almost the same. Meanwhile, the proposed RSM for the optimization of the PCSVR algorithm performs even better in terms of accuracy, auto-sensitivity, and averaged maximum error, except in averaged RMS error, and this method is much more time efficient compared to the conventional GA method.
