  • The user's secret key can be retrieved by the leakage informations of power consumption occurred during the execution of scalar multiplication for elliptic curve cryptographic algorithm which can be embedded on a security device. Recently, a carry random recoding method is proposed to prevent simple power and differential power analysis attack by recoding the secret key. In this paper, we show that this recoding method is still vulnerable to the differential power analysis attack due to the limitation of the size of carry bits, which is a different from the original claim.

  • ARIA is a 128-bit block cipher having 128-bit, 192-bit, or 256-bit key length. The cipher is a substitution and permutation encryption network (SPN) and uses an involutional binary matrix. This structure was efficiently developed into light weight environments or hardware implementations. This paper shows that a careless implementation of an ARIA on smartcards is vulnerable to a differential power analysis attack This attack is realistic because we can measure power consumption signals at two kinds of S-boxes and two types of substitution layers. By using the two round key, we extracted the master key (MK).

  • Many research results show that RSA system mounted using conventional binary exponentiation algorithm is vulnerable to some physical attacks. Recently, Schmidt and Hurbst demonstrated experimentally that an attacker can exploit secret key using faulty signatures which are obtained by skipping the squaring operations. Based on similar assumption of Schmidt and Hurbst's fault attack, we proposed new fault analysis attacks which can be made by skipping the multiplication operations or computations in looping control statement. Furthermore, we applied our attack to Montgomery ladder exponentiation algorithm which was proposed to defeat simple power attack. As a result, our fault attack can extract secret key used in Montgomery ladder exponentiation.

  • A Post-Quantum Cryptographic algorithm NTRU, which is designed by considering the computational power of quantum computers, satisfies the mathematically security level. However, it should consider the characteristics of side-channel attacks such as power analysis attacks in hardware implementation. In this paper, we verify that the private key can be recovered by analyzing the power signal generated during the decryption process of NTRU. To recover the private keys, the Simple Power Analysis (SPA), Correlation Power Analysis (CPA) and Differential Deep Learning Analysis (DDLA) were all applicable. There is a shuffling technique as a basic countermeasure to counter such a power side-channel attack. Neverthe less, we propose a more effective method. The proposed method can prevent CPA and DDLA attacks by preventing leakage of power information for multiplication operations by only performing addition after accumulating each coefficient, rather than performing accumulation after multiplication for each index.

  • The side-channel attack is widely known as an attack on implementations of cryptographic algorithms using additional side-channel information such as power traces, electromagnetic waves and sounds. As a countermeasure of side channel attack, the masking method is usually used, however full-round masking makes the efficiency of ciphers dramatically decreased. In order to avoid such a loss of efficiency, one can use reduced-round masking. In this paper, we describe a side channel attack on the lightweight block cipher LEA with the first one~six rounds masked. Our attack is based on differentials and power traces which provide knowledge of Hamming weight for the intermediate data computed during the enciphering of plaintexts. According to our experimental result, it is possible to recover 25 bits of the first round key in LEA-128.

  • Providing security has been always on priority in all areas of computing and communication, and for the systems that are low on computing power, implementing appropriate and efficient security mechanism has been a continuous challenge for the researchers. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system is such an environment, which requires the design and implementation of efficient security mechanism. Earlier, the security protocols for RFID based on hash functions and symmetric key cryptography have been proposed. But, due to high strength and requirement of less key size in elliptic curve cryptography, the focus of researchers has been on designing efficient security protocol for RFID based on elliptic curves. In this paper, an efficient elliptic curve signcryption based security protocol for RFID has been proposed, which provides mutual authentication, confidentiality, non-repudiation, integrity, availability, forward security, anonymity, and scalability. Moreover, the proposed protocol successfully provides resistance from replay attack, impersonation attack, location tracking attack, de-synchronization attack, denial of service attack, man-in-the-middle attack, cloning attack, and key-compromise attack. Results have revealed that the proposed protocol is efficient than the other related protocols as it takes less computational time and storage cost, especially for the tag, making it ideal to be used for RFID systems.

  • Although the cryptographic algorithms in IC chip such as smart card are secure against mathematical analysis attack, they are susceptible to side channel attacks in real implementation. In this paper, we analyze the security of smart card using a developed experimental tool which can perform power analysis attacks and fault insertion attacks. As a result, raw smart card implemented SEED and ARIA without any countermeasure is vulnerable against differential power analysis(DPA) attack. However, in fault attack about voltage and clock on RSA with CRT, the card is secure due to its physical countermeasures.

  • The NTRU cryptosystem proposed by Hoffstein et al. in 1990s is a public key cryptosystem based on hard lattice problems. NTRU has many advantages compared to other public key cryptosystems such as RSA and elliptic curve cryptosystems. For example, it guarantees high speed encryption and decryption with the same level of security, and there is no known quantum computing algorithm for speeding up attacks against NTRD. In this paper, we analyze the security of NTRU against the simple power analysis (SPA) attack and the statistical power analysis (STPA) attack such as the correlation power analysis (CPA) attack First, we implement NTRU operations using NesC on a Telos mote, and we show how to apply CPA to recover a private key from collected power traces. We also suggest countermeasures against these attacks. In order to prevent SPA, we propose to use a nonzero value to initialize the array which will store the result of a convolution operation. On the other hand, in order to prevent STPA, we propose two techniques to randomize power traces related to the same input. The first one is random ordering of the computation sequences in a convolution operation and the other is data randomization in convolution operation.

  • The flow characteristics of a NACA0012 airfoil was investigated in rectangular water circulating channel. The flow patterns around an airfoil at various angles of attack between $0^{\circ}\;and\;30^{\circ}\;at\;Re=1.91{\times}104$ were visualized and measured with 2-D PIV system and laser sheet illumination. Flow behaviors such as velocity distribution, kinetic energy and flow separation etc. around an airfoil were obtained by means of 2-D PIV system. The behaviors show the difference of flow pattern clearly and separation phenomena become more active with increasing angle of attack.

  • Attacks have been proposed that use side information as timing measurements, power consumption, electromagnetic emissions and faulty hardware. Elimination side-channel information of prevention it from being used to attack a secure system is an active ares of research. In this paper, differential power analysis techniques used to attack DES are compared and analyzed finally, we propose a software prevention idea of DPA attack for DES-like ciphers.
