The MgO-{{{{ { {Al }_{2 }O }_{3 } }}-{{{{ { {SiO }_{2 } }_{ } }}system containing alumina powder was fabricated sintered at various temperature and analyzed in order to study the sintering mechanism and crystallization characteristics. The specimen composed of glass powder with average particle size of 8.27 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 0-40 vol% alumina powder were sint-ered for 3 hrs at the temperature between 850$^{\circ}C$ and 1350$^{\circ}C$ The sintering mechanism consists of the redis-tribution of particles occuring at 750$^{\circ}C$ and the viscous flow at 850∼950$^{\circ}C$. The degree of crystallization and sintering temperatue were dependent upon the ratio of glass/alumina. The second phase from the reaction between glass and alumina was not observed which was confirmed by XRD and properties analysis. The density dielectric constant and specific resistivity of specimen were 2.30∼3.26g/cm2 5.8∼7.38 at 1 GHz density dielectric constant and specific resistivity of specimen were 2.30∼3.26g/cm3 5.8∼7.38 at 1GHz and 1.23∼4.70${\times}$107 $\Omega$$.$m respectively.
Recently, due to the development of MEMS technology, researches for the production of effective micro structures and shapes have been actively conducted. However, the process technology based on chemical etching has a number of problems such as environmental pollution and time problems due to multi-process. Various processes to cope with this process are being studied, and one of the mechanical etching processes is the powder blasting process. This process is a method of spraying fine particles, which has the advantage of being an effective process in manufacturing hard brittle materials. However, it is also a process that adversely affects the material surface roughness and material properties due to the impact of the injection of fine particles. In this study, after fabricating micro-channels in fused silica glass with excellent optical properties among the hard brittle materials, we used the nano indentation system to analyze the micro parts using nano-particles as well as machinability and surface roughness analysis of the processed surface. The analysis was performed for the effective processing of powder blasting.
In the present study, Zr-base metallic glass(MG)/diamond composites are fabricated using a combination of gas-atomization and spark plasma sintering (SPS). The densification behaviors of mixtures of soft MG and hard diamond powders during consolidation process are investigated. The influence of mixture characteristics on the densification is discussed and several mechanism explaining the influence of diamond particles on consolidation behaviour are proposed. The experimental results show that consolidation is enhanced with increasing diamond/Metallic Glass(MG) size ratio, while the diamond fraction is fixed.
It has been reported that the biocement obtained by mixing $CaO-SiO_2-P_2O_5$ glass powders with ammonium phosphate solution has biocompatibility as will as high strength. The hardening mechanism and hydroxyapatite forming mechanism were discussed when $53.6%CaO_1,\; 38.1%SiO_2,\; 7.7P_2O_6,\; 0.6%CaF_2$(mole %) glass powder was reacted with ammonium phosphate solution and reacted in tris-buffer solution, respectively. High strength hardened biocement was obtained for the specimen with $CaNH_4PO_4\;H_2O$ crystal when the glass powder was mixed with ammonium phosphate solution, and hydroxyapatite crystal was rapidly formed only in the sample with $CaNH_4PO_4\;H_2O$ crystal when it was reacted in tris-buffer solution.
Synthesis of $\beta$-Sialon powder was attempted with carbothermal reduction of porous glass. The porous glass was prepared by heat and hydrothermal treatments of 9.32 Li2O.46.5B2O3.37.2SiO2.6.98Al2O3 glass. Carbon pyrolyzed from propane gas was deposited on the porous glass, thereafter activated carbon was added as reducing agents. The synthesized $\beta$-Sialon powder was pressureless sintered at 175$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr in N2 atmosphere. The characterization of the $\beta$-Sialon powder was performed with XRD, BET, SEM and particle size analysis. The sinterability and mechanical properties of the sintered bodies were investigated in terms of bulk density, M.O.R., fracture toughness, morphology of microstructure and etc. The reduction effect of deposited carbon was better than that of activated carbon mechanically added. The formation of SiC was precominant over that of Si2ON2 and $\beta$-Sialon owing to low partial pressure of N2 inside the pore, wehreas on the surface of porous glass the formation of Si2ON2 and $\beta$-Sialon were predominant. Thereafter, SiC reduced unreacted glass to be $\beta$-Sialon. Single phase of $\beta$-Sialon(Z=1.92) was obtained from PGA porous glass having the largest pore radius by the simultaneous reduction and nitridation method at 145$0^{\circ}C$ for 5hrs. The bulk density, M.O.R., and KIC of the sitered body are 3.17g/cc, 434.4MPa and 4.1MPa.m1/2, respectively.
Recently, there has been growing interest in low loss and low dielectric constant material for LTCC application, as the frequency range for electronic devices increases. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of cordierite filler for low dielectric constant LTCC material. From the previous experiments, two glass compositions of B-Si-Al-Zn-Ba-Ca-O and B-Si-Al-Sr-Ca-O system, were chosen. Each powder of two glass compositions was sintered respectively with commercial cordierite powder in temperature range from $800^{\circ}C\;to\;900^{\circ}C$. Crystalline cordierite and glass peaks were affected only with two factors of composition and sintering temperature among various factors. With the optimized condition of two cordierite/glass compositions, obtained dielectric constant was below 5.5 and quality factor was above 1,000. Closed pore of sintered body was controled by sintering temperature and sintering time. When cordierite/glass composite with ratio of 5.5:4.5 was sintered at $900^{\circ}C$, densification was sufficient with good dielectric characteristics of ${\epsilon}_r<5.1,\;Q{\ge}1,000$. Residual fine closed pores could be reduced with control of sintering temperature and time. 3 point bending strength and chemical durability were evaluated to obtain feasibility for substrate material.
Bulk metallic glass (BMG) strips of $Cu_{54}Ni_6Zr_{22}Ti_{18}$ were produced by warm rolling of the amorphous powder canned with copper. Controlling of temperatures of the rolled sample and rolls was essential for the successive rolling process. Because improper controlling of the sample temperature gave rise to the crystallization of BMG loading to the catastrophic fracture of BMG strips, the temperature of rolls should be properly controlled for achieving successful powder rolling of BMG. The variations of the strain state and temperature in the roll gap was simulated by the finite element method(FEM) using various roll temperatures.
In this study, mechanical properties of high strength cement composites (HSC) containing recycled glass powder (GP) after heating were investigated. As a result, at 100Mpa, as the heating temperature increased, the compressive strength increased while the elastic modulus decreased . At 140Mpa, after heating at 300℃, the spalling occurred excluding GP0, and it is believed to be due to the high density of HSC.
