Purpose: This study attempted to investigate the effect of functional rehabilitation exercise for posture correction on physical strength factors and physical balance. Research design, data, and methodology: It consisted of 40 experimental groups that applied functional rehabilitation exercises to 80 people with posture imbalance and 40 comparative groups that performed general exercises, and was conducted four times a week, once for 40 minutes, and for 12 weeks. Results: D.S. (p<.o1) among F.M.S., a moving assessment. It increased significantly from the dictionary, and H.S. (p<.o5). I.L(p<.o5). S.M(p<.o5). A.S.L.R(p<.o5). T.S.P(p<.o01). It was confirmed that R.S. (p<.o5) decreased more after than before. In other words, Functional rehabilitation exercise was effective in improving physical balance. PAPS flexibility (bending forward) (p<.o1). Muscle strength (grip strength test) (p<.o1). Quickness (long jump) (p<.o1). Functional rehabilitation exercise was found to be effective in muscle strength, agility, and flexibility, but not in cardiopulmonary endurance. Pain: Based on the NRS scale (1-10 points). The experimental that there was a significant interaction between the groups.(F=38.583, P=.000). In the comparative group, there was no significant difference in the pre-post, and it was found that the pain level in the experimental group decreased after the pre-post (p<.001). Conclusion: As a result of the above study, it was confirmed that functional rehabilitation exercise improves physical strength factors and physical balance ability, and also affects physical pain reduction due to physical imbalance.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of the CPR training for non-healthcare providers by checking the performing ability of the subjects before and after the teaching class. Method: This study was a single primary experimental study designed with pre and post test. Study subjects were 37 office staffs who participated in all test from March, 10th, 2005 to April, 18th, 2005. The tools of this study were CPR performing evaluation sheet and CPR teaching computer program. Data analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, repeated ANOVA and Bonferroni with SPSS 12.0 program. Result: The CPR practice performing ability statistically significant increased by the step of test. The CPR practice performing ability of learning experience group had significantly high score than non experience group. The self-confidence about CPR practice when faced emergency situation was increased after practice training. Conclusion: One to one CPR practice teaching method using simulation by CPR teaching specialists was turned out to be very effective in improving the ability of CPR practice of non-healthcare providers in a tertiary hospital than self-study.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate knowledge and attitudes of students majoring in health-related fields toward automated external defibrillator (AED) and to identify the influencing factors of knowledge and attitudes in AED use among the students. Methods: Data were collected from 346 students and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, post hoc $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis, with SPSS Win 20.0 program. Results: Overall knowledge of AED in health-related major students, except paramedics and physical therapy was relatively low while attitudes were at moderate level. There were statistically significant differences in knowledge according to age, grade, major, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) awareness, exposure to AED and CPR education; and differences in attitude according to major, health status, health awareness, CPR awareness, exposure to AED, and CPR education. Significant factors explained 63% of knowledge on AED (F= 43.96, p<.001) and 37% of attitudes on AED (F= 15.84, p<.001). Conclusion: The study findings suggest that systemic education programs on AED should be implemented during undergraduate curriculum to improve survival rate of sudden cardiac arrest.
Total spinal anesthesia is a serious life threatening complication of spinal and epidural anesthesia. We report an accidental total spinal anesthesia developed during a thoracic epidural block in a practitioner's pain clinic. A 69-year-old female with post-herpetic neuralgia was treated by a thoracic epidural block. A thoracic tapping for the epidural block was performed in the right lateral position at a level between $T_{5-6}$, using a 23 gauge Tuohy needle. After the epidural space was identified, a mixed solution of 10 ml of 0.3% lidocaine and 20 mg of triamcinolone was injected into the epidural space. After removal of the syringe, fluid was dripping through the needle. The patient subsequently complained of dyspnea and dizziness, and she became unconscious. She was intubated immediately and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed because there was no pulse palpable. The patient recovered an hour after transfer to a general hospital and was discharged without any further complication 19 days later.
The OXYREX hollow fiber membrane oxygenator developed by joint work of KIST and Green Cross Medical company has been evaluated by experimental investigation and clinical application, In this oxygenator gas exchanges occur through small pores of 0.1pm size which are distributed on 70% of surface of polypropylene hollow fiber. The Oxyrex membrane oxygenator consists of 36 thousand hollow fibers and it has 3.3m2 of gas exchange surface. The Oxyrex membrane oxygenator has unique blood flow path: blood enters the oxygenator passes between the hollow fibers and exits through outlet ports, that provides low transmembrane pressure drop. In the animal experiment and in vitro investigations of Oxyrex oxygenator, it showed low transmembrane pressure difference, effective heat exchanger performance, stable gas transfer function and less blood trauma. The Oxyrex oxygenator been used from March, 1990, to October, 1990, in 40 patients undergoing open heart operations. In the clinical applications of Oxyrex, adequate oxygenation[PaO2, 283$\pm$70mmHg] and carbon dioxide removal[PaCO2, 27\ulcorner6mmHg]were maintained under the condition of FiO2: below 0.6, Hct; 25%, perfusion flow; 2.4 L/min, gas flow: 2.1 L/min. During maximum 365 minutes of cardiopulmonary bypass[CPB] time period, the Oxyrex oxygenator maintained stable condition of PaO2, PaCO2 respectively and it also kept low plasma hemoglobin level. The complement proteins C3 and CH50 were not significantly changed pre to post CPB. There were no complications related to the oxygenator during and after the CPB.
Twenty-one cases of open mitral commissurotomy were done between October 1963 and March 1973. 1] Preoperative embolism consists of 7 cerebral and 2 peripheral cases. Two operative cerebral embolism cases were noted. 2] There were two cases of restenosis, one associated valvular disease, three mitral insufficiency cases, and six cases of pulmonary hypertension. 3] Out of 21 cases, 13 cases of atrial fibrillation were found and two cases of atrial fibrillation were found postoperatively among 8 cases of preoperatively normal sinus rhythm. 4] During operation 10 cases of valvular calcification and 6 cases of left atrial thrombus were noted. 5] Complete blood count, electrolyte and acid base balance showed normal range of data. 6] Four helix reservoir whole blood total body perfusion and 17 cases of .hemodilution perfusion utilizing Rygg-Kyvsgaard bag oxygenator with sigma motor were performed. 7] EACA 125 mg/kg intravenous administration before cardiopulmonary bypass resulted in markedly diminished postoperative bleeding. 8] Post-perfusion urine amount was in satisfactory range. 9] There were 2 operative mortality due to coronary embolism and three cases of hospital death, 2 due to severe hepatic failure and one due to cerebral embolism. 10] Sixteen survival cases showed marked clinical improvements and almost all of them returned to their occupation satisfactorily after operation.
Purpose: This study was designed to describe the effects of a nursing simulation focused on patients with cardiac arrest. The study was designed to measure knowledge, self-confidence, critical thinking, and clinical performance ability of nursing students. Methods: A non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design was used. Thirty students in the experimental group received two hours of pre-learning and three hours of skill and simulation practice. Another thirty students in the experimental group received a two hour conventional lecture and three hours for skill practice. The post survey was completed by both groups. Results: Students in the experiemetal group scored significantly higher than students in control group. The critical thinking disposition was not significantly different between the two groups of students. Conclusion: The results indicate that a simulation education program is more effective in a number of areas including knowledge, self-confidence, and clinical performance. It is recommended that simulation education should be expanded to various clinical situations.
Purpose: This study is aimed at testing the effect of health promotion program on health promoting behavior and cardiovascular risk factors of middle-aged women. Method: The research design was the nonequivalent control group pre-post test. Twelve middle-aged women were the experimental group and ten were the control group. The 8-week health promotion program was given to the experimental group. There were health promotion theories, flexibility and muscle strength exercise, cardiopulmonary endurance exercise, nutrition, stress management, cancer prevention and early detection, management of menopause and wrap-up in health promotion program for middle-aged women. The measurement tool was Health Promoting Behavior developed by researcher using serum cholesterol, obesity rate, systolic blood pressure, and diastolic blood pressure as cardiovascular risk factors. Result: The experimental group showed a higher score of health promoting behavior than the control group. There were no differences on cardiovascular risk factors(cholesterol, obesity rate, diastolic blood pressure) between the experimental and control groups except systolic blood pressure. Conclusion: Conclusively, this health promotion program for middle-aged women was effective in increasing health promotion behaviors, but wasn't effective in decreasing cardiovascular risk factors except the systolic blood pressure. It seems it's necessary to re-study this using more samples and a longer duration of the program, and smaller mortality rate.
The primary cardiac tumor was considered as a form of disease with poor prognosis in the past and it was hardly diagnosed before post mortem autopsy. But recent development of diagnostic procedure and the cardiac surgery using extracorporeal circulation increased the accuracy of diagnosis and the opportunity of successful treatment. The authors present two cases of left atrial myxoma which experienced during recent 4 years between 1979 and 1982. A 33 year old woman admitted with severe shortness of breath, generalized edema, ascites and the evidence of hepatopathy resulted from right sided heart failure. Preoperatively, the patient was treated with conservative medication to improve general condition for a few days. The tumor mass was removed successfully under the cardiopulmonary bypass. She, however, died of myocardial dysfunction showing low blood pressure. The tumor mass weighed 22gm and measured 5.2x4.5x3.6 cm in size. A 60 year old man admitted with shortness of breath on exertion and an episode of fainting. Following the removal of tumor mass under the cardiovascular bypass, the clinical course was satisfactory with no complication. The tumor mass weighed 105gm and measured 9x4x5 cm in size.
From February 1984 through July 1991, 104 infants less than 1 year of age with congenital heart defects underwent open heart repair with conventional cardiopulmonary bypass which occupied 10.7% of all patients with congenital heart defects operated on during same period. There were 66 boys and 38 girls 7 days to 12 months [mean age, 8.2 months]. Four patients were neonates, 8 were 1 to 3 months, 23 were 4 to 6 months, and 69 were 7 to 12 months of age. Mean body weight at repair was 6.9kg and mean BSA, 0.36m2 Indications for operation were intractable congestive heart failure and severe pulmonary hypertension in patients with VSD and severe cyanosis and anoxic spells in patients with TOF. Conditions corrected were VSD[79], TOF[8], AVSD[4], PS[2], PA+IVS[2], TAPVC [2], MR[2], DOLV[l], Truncus arteriosus[1], D-TGA[1], and PA-VSD[1]. Twenty-three of 79 patients with VSD had associated cardiovascular anomalies which included PDA in 16 patients, PS in 9 patients, ASD in 5 patients, LSVC in 2 patients, MR in 1 patient, dextrocardia in 1 patient, and single coronary artery in 1 patient. The hospital mortality rate was 24.0% which was much higher than that of 6% in patients over 1 year of age. The greatest mortality occurred in babies of low weight under 6 months of age, There was no late death. Surviving infants showed marked symptomatic improvement and change in growth patterns. These surgical results were to be overcome with proper pre- and post-operative management and improvement of surgical technique
