Purpose: This study was conducted to determine factors related to self-esteem, personality, general characteristics and dating affecting positive affect in female college students. Methods: The subjects were 335 female students attending the three colleges in Chungnam Province. Data were collected using PANAS, Self-esteem, and DISC questionnaires. Hierarchical Multiple Regression Analysis was mainly used. Results: The factors affecting positive affect were self-esteem, personality-dominance type, personality -consciousness type, economic status and boyfriend presence in female college students. These 5 factors accounted for 30.3% of positive affect of female students. In cases of having a boyfriend, factors affecting positive affect were self-esteem, economic status, boyfriend's height, and boyfriend's economic status. These 4 factors accounted for 30.5% of positive affect of female students who have a boyfriend. Conclusion: The positive affect levels of female students should be raised in practice through intervention such as a self-esteem improvement program, personality traits intervention program, and counseling on dating.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of children's self-esteem on their school adjustment, focusing on the mediation of peer attachment. A total of 2,200 3rd grade children from the third Korea Child-Adolescent Panel Survey participated in this study. The instruments used in this study were the Self-esteem Scale, Peer Attachment Scale, and School Adjustment Scale. The collected data were analyzed by using a Student's t -test, Pearson's partial correlation, simple regression, and hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS ver. 16.0 software. The main results of this study are as follows: first, the boys had higher self-esteem, peer attachment, and school adjustment scores than the girls. Second, there was a significant positive correlation between children's self-esteem and peer attachment as well as a significant positive correlation between children's self-esteem and school adjustment. Further, there was a significant positive correlation between children's peer attachment and school adjustment. Finally, children's self-esteem exerted positive effects on their peer attachment, and children's peer attachment had a positive influence on their school adjustment. The effect of children's self-esteem on their school adjustment was partially mediated by their peer attachment. These findings provide preliminary evidence that the relationships between children's self-esteem and school adjustment may be mediated by their peer attachment.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impacts of family strengths perceived by children and self-esteem on friendship quality. The subjects of this study were 747 students in the 5th and 6th grade who are from 10 elementary schools in Incheon and Gyeonggi Province. The results are as follows: First, positive factor of the friendship quality had significant difference depending upon gender of child. That is, female have higher friendship quality than male. Also, general self-esteem, social-peer self-esteem and positive factor of friendship quality had significant difference depending upon father's educational level. Second, gender of child, self-esteem, family strengths what kind of effect should have gone mad to friendship quality, it examined. The variable of social-peer self-esteem is the most influence positive factor in friendship. The variable of school academic self-esteem is the most influence conflict in friendship. Most important factors that affected competition in friendship were family values. And most important factors that affected satisfaction in friendship were general self-esteem. In conclusion, variables effecting friendship quality include gender of child, self-esteem and family strengths. Therefore, family strengths and self-esteem are very important in order to improve the positive friendship quality of children.

In this study, we would like to consider the main factors that influence psychological well-being by using social network service. suggest ways to use healthy social network services, and empirically verify how behavioral approaches, in other words self-determination theory, that deals with human psychological needs, affect psychological well-being by self-esteem and satisfaction to comprehensively examine the characteristics of service and user individuals and social influences, etc. First research result, it has been confirmed that the autonomy has a positive effect on self-esteem. Second, it has been confirmed that the autonomy does not have a positive effect on satisfaction. Third, it has been confirmed that the competence has a positive effect on self-esteem. Fourth, it has been confirmed that the competence does not have a positive effect on satisfaction. Fifth, it has been confirmed that the relationship has a positive effect on self-esteem. Sixth, it has been confirmed that the relationship does not have a positive effect on satisfaction. Seventh, it has been confirmed that self-esteem has a positive effect on psychological well-being. Eighth, it has been confirmed that self-esteem has a positive effect on satisfaction. Ninth, it has been confirmed that satisfaction has a positive effect on psychological well-being. These results mean that meeting basic human psychological needs has a significant impact on psychological well-being of the social network service users. In addition, it was confirmed that increasing the desire for autonomy, competence, relationship, which are factors of self-determination, is an important factor to enhance psychological well-being.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of positive thinking and self-esteem on school adaptation among freshmen in a nursing department. Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 172 nursing students in the month of December 2017. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: A positive correlation was found for school adaptation with positive thinking and self-esteem. Positive thinking, self-esteem, major satisfaction and interpersonal relationships were all significant predictors of school adaptation. The model explained 43.6% of the variables. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that positive thinking should be considered when developing strategies to increase school adaptation among freshmen in nursing departments.

This study aimed to analyse the effects of self-control and impulsiveness of college students on smart phone addition and whether self-esteem has mediating effects on them. For the purposes, this study interviewed 4-year college students in Gwangju City with the use of a questionnaire and 314 copies of the responses were used for a final analysis. The data collected was analysed with the use of SPSS 22.0 and the results are presented as follows: First, behavior impulsiveness has a positive effect on self-esteem and smart phone addiction. Second, self-esteem had a positive effect on smart phone addiction. Third, it was discovered that behavior impulsiveness had a positive effect on smart phone addiction through an analysis of mediating effects while self-esteem had an indirect effect on it. Therefore, it was suggested that more care should be paid on smart phone addiction and development of programs against it should be facilitated.

The purpose of this study was to examined the relationships between the narcissism and the self-esteem, the hostility. In order to accomplish the above purpose, empirical research has executed. First, the narcissism, the self-esteem and the hostility was analyzed, and the subfactors of narcissism, the self-esteem and the hostility was. The major results from this study were as follows. (1) The narcissism had significantly a positive correlation to the self-esteem and the hostility, and both of the self-esteem and the hostility influenced of significantly the narcissism, especially the hostility influenced of the narcissism even more importantly. (2) The more narcissism showed the higher self-esteem overtly and the more hostility. (3) The all subfactors to except the self-centeredness of the narcissism had a positive correlation to the self-esteem, and the all subfactors of narcissism had a positive correlation to the hostility. (4) The most important narcissism personality traits which influenced of the self-esteem was the superiority, and the hostility the self-centeredness. Narcissists are motivated by the preference for being superior to others. That is, narcissists have an extreme emotional investment in establishing their superiority, even if they are unsure that their superiority is merited. therefore, it is possible for narcissists to have high self-esteem. But this is to defence the fragility of the vulnerable self structure. And, narcissists feel very much a sense of hostility in psychologically. Because they are hyper-sensitive to negative information, they will be more likely to encounter information or situations that challenge their positive self-appraisals. In response to these challenges, or ego threats, they will likely experience negative emotion, such as hostility.

Objectives: This study was aimed to inspect what relation there exists between the elderly's social support, self-esteem and the suicidal thinking, and examined factors influencing their suicidal ideation. Methods: For 207 old persons above 65 residing at Seoul, questionnaire survey was performed for 4 weeks. For response data, t-test and ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and Multiple Regression Analysis were performed using spss 18.0 program. Results: The results of analysis are like followings. 1. As for the social support according to the general characteristics, there was statistically significant difference in sex distinction, religion, living arrangement, educational level, monthly allowance and mode to use spare time. As for self-esteem according to the general characteristics, there was statistically significant difference in sex distinction, religion, living arrangement and monthly allowance. And as for the suicidal ideation, there was statistically significant difference in the marital status. 2. As for the relation between the social support, self-esteem and the suicidal ideation, it showed statistically very significant positive correlation in the social support and self-esteem. And there existed relatively higher positive correlation in family support among sub-factors of the social support and the positive self-recognition among sub-factors of self-esteem. 3. It showed that positive and negative self-recognition as sub-factors of self-esteem, others' support as sub-factor of the social support influence on the suicidal ideation. In other words, as positive self-recognition was lower, as negative self-recognition was higher, as social support of others was lower, they had much more effect on the suicidal ideation of the elderly. And it showed about 36.1% of the explanatory capability. Conclusions: Health care providers should develop school health education for the elderly.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and coping skills among middle school students. Method: The participants were 674 students in three middle schools in GyeongGi-Do. The data were collected from June 10 to 20, 2005. The instruments used were the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale and the Ways of Coping Checklist. The data were analyzed using the SPSS-Win 12.0 program. Result: Self-esteem showed a significant positive correlation with positive coping skills (r= .162. p= .000). As for the positive coping skills, there was a significant difference by grade (F= 4.69, p= .010), relationship with parent (F=4.036, p= .02), and relationship with siblings (F=3.902, p= .02). As for the negative coping skills, there was a significant difference by grade (F=3.05, p= .04), condition of living with parents (F=3.559, p= .02), economic status (F=3.736, p= .02), relationship with sibling (F=3.408, p= .03), and troubling matters (F=5.422, p= .005). Conclusion: Positive coping skills may be effective for adjustment because they positively related to self-esteem. Self-esteem and coping skills should be considered when an adolescent's mental health enhancement program is designed.
Purpose: This study was to identify the relations of rural elderly people' self-esteem and social support to their qualify of life. Methods: Data were collected from 228 rural elderly. The instruments used in this study were the self-esteem scale developed by Rogenberg(1965), the MOS-SSS(1991) and the qualify of life scale by Choi(1986). Data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 using t-test. ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Self-esteem and social support were in a positive correlation with each other(r=.467, p=.000). Social support and quality of life were in a positive correlation with each other(r=.512, p=.000). Self-esteem and quality of life were in a positive correlation with each other(r=.555, p=.000). The significant predictors of quality of life were self esteem, social support, and economic status, and the three factors accounted for 42.5% of variances in rural elderly people's quality of life. Conclusion: These results suggest that self-esteem, social support, economic status can be important factors for the qualify of life in the rural elderly. It proposes the basis for program development to improve rural elderly people's qualify of life.
