  • Purpose: Peritoneal lavage cytology is part of the routine staging workup for patients with advanced gastric cancer. However, no quality assurance study has been conducted to show variations or biases in peritoneal lavage cytology results. The aim of this study was to demonstrate a test execution variation in peritoneal lavage cytology between investigating surgeons. Materials and Methods: A prospective cohort study was designed for determination of the positive rate of peritoneal lavage cytology using a liquid-based preparation method in patients with potentially curable advanced gastric cancer (cT2~4/N0~2/M0). One hundred thirty patients were enrolled and underwent laparotomy, peritoneal lavage cytology, and standard gastrectomy, which were performed by 3 investigating surgeons. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and a logistic regression model. Results: The overall positive peritoneal cytology rate was 10.0%. Subgroup positive rates were 5.3% in pT1 cancer, 2.0% in pT2/3 cancer, 11.1% in pT4a cancer, and 71.4% in pT4b cancer. In univariate analysis, positive peritoneal cytology showed significant correlation with pT stage, lymphatic invasion, vascular invasion, ascites, and the investigating surgeon. We found the positive rate to be 2.1% for surgeon A, 10.2% for surgeon B, and 20.6% for surgeon C (P=0.024). Multivariate analysis identified pT stage, ascites, and the investigating surgeon to be significant risk factors for positive peritoneal cytology. Conclusions: The peritoneal lavage cytology results were significantly affected by the investigating surgeon, providing strong evidence of test execution variation that could be related to poor diagnostic accuracy and stage migration in patients with advanced gastric cancer.

  • The viscoplasticity theory based on overstress, one of the unified state variable theories, is generalized to model zero (no influence of loading rate) and negative (flow stress decreases with loading rate) as well as positive (flow stress increases with loading rate) rate sensitivity in a consistent way. On the basis of the long-time asymptotic solution the different types of rate sensitivity are classified with respect to an augmentation function that is introduced in the evolution law fur a state variable equilibrium stress. The theory predicts normal relaxation and creep behaviors even if unusual rate sensitivity is modeled. The constitutive model fir the behavior of a modified 9Cr-1 Mo steel at various temperatures is then compared with experimental data found in the literature.

  • Various kinds of ship are operated to transport cargo or passengers at sea in the world. Most of the important auxiliary machineries installed in those ships are fluid machineries such as pumps, compressors, and fans. A large percentage of fluid machinery is pumps which are classified turbo and positive displacement pumps. This paper analyzes only positive displacement pumps. This thesis has two aims: (a) to analyze the present status of pumps installed in merchant and training ships and (b) to find the correlation among sea going pump kW, port pump kW, total pump kW, GE kW, ME MCR, number of pumps, ME kgf, pump kgf. Based on ship's type, this paper seeks to find special characteristics as a result of analyzing head, flow rate, and kW. Moreover this paper analyzes and compares number of pumps, pump kW/ME MCR, pump kW/GE kW under the conditions of seagoing and berthing according to ship's type.

  • A general administrator's response ability plunged in confusion as intrusion detection system like an existing Snort display much alert messages on administrator's screen. Also, there are some possibilities to cause false positive. In this paper, to solve these problems, we designed Web-based ID(Intrusion Detection) traffic analysis system using correlation, and implemented so that administrator can check easily whole intrusion traffic state in web which dividing into normal and intrusion traffic using Libpcap, Snort, ACID, Nmap and Nessus. As a simulation result, it is proved that alert message number and false positive rate are minimized.

  • In this article, we study a reaction-diffusion system with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, which describing a three-species food chain model. Under some conditions, the predator-prey subsystem (u1 ≡ 0) has a unique positive solution (${\bar{u_2}}$, ${\bar{u_3}}$). By using the birth rate of the prey r1 as a bifurcation parameter, a connected set of positive solutions of our system bifurcating from semi-trivial solution set (r1, (0, ${\bar{u_2}}$, ${\bar{u_3}}$)) is obtained. Results are obtained by the use of degree theory in cones and sub and super solution techniques.

  • We consider a particle walking on the nonnegative integers and each unit of time it makes, given it is at site k, either a jump of size m distance units to the right with probability $p_{k}$ or it goes back (falls down) to its starting point 0, a retaining barrier, with probability $v_{k}\;=\;1\;-\;p_{k}$. This is a Markov chain on the integers $mZ^{+}$. We show that if $v_{k}$ has a nonzero limit, then the Markov chain is positive recurrent. However, if $v_{k}$ speeds to 0, then we may get transient Markov chain. A critical speeding rate to zero is identified to get transience, null recurrence, and positive recurrence. Another type of random walk on $Z^{+}$ is considered in which a particle moves m distance units to the right or 1 distance unit to left with probabilities $p_{k}\;and\;q_{k}\;=\;1\;-\;p_{k}$, respectively. A necessary condition to having a stationary distribution and positive recurrence is obtained.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate results of cervix cytology screening in the community and to determine the risk factors of cervical abnormality. Branch of Daejeon city and Chungnam Province, The Planed Parenthood Federation of Korea had conducted cervical cancer screening of 146,848 married women in Chungnam province from 1995 to 1999. Cervical cancer screening was Pap smear using cytolgic brush swab by trained nurse. Women who had abnormal finding of 1st Pap smear screening were followed re- examination and 2nd close examination. Crude prevalence rate of cytologic abnormalities for 1st screening results was 0.63% in 1995- 1999(1995 0.68%, 1996 0.59%, 1997 0.70%, 1998 0.56%, 1999 0.62%). Crude prevalence rate of above class III for 1st screening results was 0.61%, but crude prevalence rate of above class III for the results of re- examination and 2nd close examination was 2.2/ 1000. The false-positive rate of class III, IV and V for positive findings were defined above class II(cervicitis) results were 52.6%, 26.9% and 19.0%, respectively. And the false- positive rate of class III, IV and V for positive findings were defined above class III(dysplasia) results were 75.3%, 46.2% and 47.6%, respectively. Major predictors of risk factors for abnormal results of cervix screening on the multiple logistic regression were age, educational attainment and living area. The false-positive rate of cervix cytology screening in the community were highest result so cervix cytology screening should be improve for better diagnostic power. And the finding of logistic regression would be understand within the limit of experimental trials on the relationship between cervical disease and risk factors.

  • An epidemiological study was undertaken to estimate the prevalence of Enterobius vermicularis infection among the primary (and infant) school schildren in Ysngyang-gun, Kyongsangbuk-do. During the period from 2 to 14 December 1983, a total of 2,227 school children in 13 schools were examined one time by means of scotch-tape anal swab technique with a simple questionaire study on perianal itching, enuresis and school record. The results are as follows: 1. The overall egg Positive rate was 64.1% and the rate ranged from 46.6 to 86.7% by schools. 2. The egg positive rates of boys and twirls were 60.5 and 68.0% respectively and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.005). 3. There was noted a tendency of decrease in prevalence by increase of the age of children. 4. It was revealed that perianal itching and school record were significantly correlated with E. vermicularis infection (P<0.05) while not in case of enuresis (P>0.1).

  • The nucleophilic substitution reactions of bis(Y-aryl) chlorothiophosphates (1) with X-pyridines are investigated kinetically in acetonitrile at $35.0^{\circ}C$. The free energy relationships with both X and Y are biphasic concave upwards with a break point at X = 3-Ph and Y = H, respectively. The sign of cross-interaction constants (CICs; ${\rho}_{XY}$) is positive with all X and Y. Proposed mechanism is a stepwise process with a rate-limiting leaving group departure from the intermediate with all X and Y. The kinetic results of 1 are compared with those of Y-aryl phenyl chlorothiophosphates (2). In the case of Y = electron-withdrawing groups, the cross-interaction between Y and Y, due to additional substituent Y, is significant enough to change the sign of ${\rho}_{XY}$ from negative with 2 to positive with 1, indicative of the change of mechanism from a rate-limiting bond formation to bond breaking.
