The forming limit diagram is assessed as a means of estimating the forming characteristics of sheet metal and is usually determined experimentally. The strain rates used in the determination are likely to be low. However, often in practice, the strain rates are much higher, so if forming limit diagram is determined at low rates, it may not be appropriate. This paper reconsiders the forming limit diagram for mild steel and aluminum sheet up to variation in strain rate from 10$^{-2}$ sec to 20/sec where its forming has been carried out under oil pressure using a hydraulic bulge test with circular and elliptical dies. To obtain higher strain rate, an impact bulge test had been employed with the same die sets as those used for a hydraulic bulge test. The results obtained are as follows: (1) As the strain rate increases, the fracture pressure increases and the polar height at fracture decreases. (2) Experiment has shown that, in the positive quadrant of the forming limit diagram, the diagram is lowered with increasing strain rate and the effect of strain rate changes according to strain paths and materials..
We compared the satellite observed temperature with the radiosonde observed temperature in the Korean Peninsula. The radiosonde observed data were obtained from four upper air observation stations in the Korean Peninsula from 1981 to 1998, and were compared with the satellite observed data of the channel-2 and channel-4 of microwave sounding unit(MSU) on board NOAA series of polar-orbiting satellites. The radiosonde data were reconstructed from radiosonde T$_b$ using MSU weighting function. The monthly climatology shows radiosonde T$_{b2}$ is higher than MSU T$_{b2}$ in summer. The correlation between MSU T$_{b2}$ and radiosonde T$_{b2}$ is 0.72-0.76 and 0.73-0.81 between MSU T$_{b4}$ and radiosonde T$_{b4}$. The T$_{b2}$ show a positive trend and the T$_{b4}$ has a negative trend during the 18 years.

We tried to investigate the effects of substituent position, temperature, and additives such as NaCl and n-butanol on the solubilizations of cresol isomers by tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB), using the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. The measured solubilization constants (Ks) values for each cresol isomer increased in the order o-cresolo and ∆Ho values for the solubilizations of cresols were all negative values but the ∆So values were all positive values within the measured ranges. The values of ∆Go increased also with increasing the concentration of n-butanol but decreased with increasing the concentration of NaCl. From these facts, we could conclude that both the enthalpy and entropy changes contribute together for the solubilizations of cresols isomers by cationic surfactant of TTAB and they are solubilized in the polar palisade region or at the surface of micelle.

A sediment trap had been deployed at 1250 m depth in the Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP) from September 2009 to July 2010, with the aim of understanding the temporal and vertical variability of particle flux. During the monitoring period, total particle flux varied from 12.4 to 101.0 mg m-2day-1, with the higher fluxes in January-March 2010. Biogenic particle flux varied in phase with the total particle flux. The increase in total particle flux during January-March 2010 was attributed to the enhanced biological production in the surface layer caused by wind-driven mixing in response to the seasonal shifts in the location of the Intertropical convergence zone. The export ratio (e-ratio) was estimated using the particulate organic carbon flux and satellite-derived net primary production data. The estimated e-ratios changed between 0.8% and 2.8% (1.4±0.6% on average). The ratio recorded in the negative phase of Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO) was similar to the previous results obtained from the ETP during the 1992/93 periods in the positive phase of PDO. This suggests that the regime shift of the PDO is not related to the carbon export ratio.
In order to evaluate the dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and fluorescent dissolved organic matter (FDOM), as indicators of organic matter in the coastal environments, we measured the concentrations of DOC, FDOM, and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in saline groundwater (Woljeong, Pyoseon, and Hwasun beaches) and coastal seawater (Haengwon, Gwideok, Pyoseon, and Yeongnak) in Jeju, Korea. The highest concentrations of DOC and COD in groundwater were found in Woljeong and Pyoseon, and those in coastal water were observed in Haengwon and Pyoseon, indicating that the higher concentrations of DOC and COD seem to be associated with saline groundwater-driven dissolved organic matter (DOM) and/or biogeochemical processes. According to origin and optical properties of DOM using FDOM as a tracer, proportion of humic-like FDOM, more refractory DOM, was relatively greater in the groundwater than in the coastal water. With regard to this result, there was no relationship between DOC and COD in groundwater, while DOC showed a good positive correlation (r2 = 0.66) with COD in coastal water. This result indicates that COD as an indicator of assessment of DOM has a limitation in which it is difficult to quantify refractory DOM. Although DOC is a potential alternative to COD in the coastal environments, particulate organic carbon cannot be negligible due to relatively higher concentration compared to the open ocean. Therefore, the use of total organic carbon (TOC) as a replacement of COD in the coastal ocean is important, and the evaluation criterion of the TOC is necessary in order to evaluate of organic matter indicator in the various coastal environments.
A marine protected area (MPA) is a spatially designated section of the ocean where the biodiversity is high. Munseom MPA has a unique underwater landscape including soft coral, subtropical fish, and benthos, attracting many scuba divers. This paper intends to evaluate the willingness-to-pay (WTP) for the scuba diving management policy in the Munseom MPA. As a stated preference valuation method, a choice experiment was applied to assess divers' preferences with economic values for the policy. The attributes used in the study included zoning (temporal closure), conservation education, daily permit, soft coral area, and diving fee. We collected 333 questionnaires through online and field surveys and used 296 after excluding incomplete responses for the final data analysis. Study results show that a six-month closure, a decrease in soft coral habitat, and the diving fee were statistically significant. A positive coefficient with regard to the six-month closure variable indicates that divers preferred the policy, and the marginal willingness to pay (MWTP) was estimated to be KRW 8,637 per person per dive. The aggregate WTP of KRW 233 million was obtained by multiplying the MWTP by the number of visiting divers per year. When comparing the levels of recreation specialization, more skilled divers preferred the management option. The results of this study will help predict the priority of management measures and the levels of acceptability among divers when diving management is implemented in Korea in the future. This study suggests that marine environmental policies need to consider divers as one of the important stakeholders for marine conservation.
Objectives: Enterococcus faecalis is a gram positive diplococci, highly versatile and a normal commensal of the gut microbiome. Resistance to vancomycin is a serious issue in various health-care setting exhibited by vancomycin resistant Enterococci (VRE) due to the alteration in the peptidoglycan synthesis pathway. This study is thus aimed to detect the VRE from the patients with root caries from the clinical isolates of E. faecalis and to evaluate the in-silico interactions between vanA and the Aegles marmelos bio-compounds. Methods: E. faecalis was phenotypically characterized from 20 root caries samples and the frequency of vanA and vanB genes was detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Further crude methanolic extracts from the dried leaves of A. marmelos was assessed for its antimicrobial activity. This is followed by the selection of five A. marmelos bio-compounds for the computational approach towards the drug ligand interactions. Results: 12 strains (60%) of E. faecalis was identified from the root caries samples and vanA was detected from two strains (16%). Both the stains showed the presence of vanA and none of the strains possessed vanB. Crude extract of A. marmelos showed promising antibacterial activity against the VRE strains. In-silico analysis of the A. marmelos biocompounds revealed Imperatonin as the best compound with high docking energy (-8.11) and hydrogen bonds with < 140 TPSA (Topological polar surface area) and zero violations. Conclusion: The present study records the VRE strains among the root caries with imperatorin from A. marmelos as a promising drug candidate. However the study requires further experimentation and validation.
This study examined the influence of near-surface atmospheric warming in the Arctic-East Asia region during spring (March-May) from 1991 to 2020 on the synoptic-scale meteorology of dust storm-induced dust days in Seoul, Korea, in response to the Arctic Oscillation. Increased springtime warming in the Arctic-East Asia region correlated with a reduction of six days in the occurrence of dust storm-induced dust days in Seoul, Korea, along with a decline in the intensity of these days by -1.6 ㎍ m-3yr-1 in PM10 mass concentration. The declining number of dust storm-induced dust days in Korea during the 2010s was the result of synoptic-scale meteorological analysis, which showed increased high-pressure activity as indicated by the negative potential vorticity unit. Moreover, a distinct pattern emerged in the distribution of dust storm-induced dust days in Korea based on the Arctic Oscillation Index (AOI), showing an increase in negative AOI and a decrease in positive AOI. Although the northward shift of the polar jet weakened the southerly low-pressure system activity over Mongolia and northern China, a reinforced high-pressure system formed over the Chinese continent during dust-storm-induced dust days with a negative AOI. This resulted in both a decrease in the frequency of dust-storm-induced dust days and reduction in wind speeds, facilitating their transport from source regions to Korea. Conversely, on days with positive AOIs, an extensive warm and stagnant high-pressure system dominated mainland China, accompanied by further cooling of the northern segment of the polar jet. A notable decline in wind speed in the lower troposphere across the Mongolia-northern China-Korea region diminished the occurrence of dust storm-induced dust days and also weakened their long-range transport.
The main goal of this study was to produce transgenic piglets by the method of injection of sperm-mediated exogenous DNA. Spermatozoa (1$\times$106 sperm of final concentration) obtained from caudal epididymis were mixed with pBC1-hEPO (20 ng/${mu}ell$) or pcDNA3 LAC Z (20 ng/${mu}ell$), and followed by electroporation (500 V, 25 ㎌). Matured oocytes having the first polar body and dense cytoplasm were selected and centrifuged at 12,000g for 6 min. After sperm injection, the oocytes were activated electrically (1.7 ㎸/cm, 30 $\mu$ sec, single pulse) in 0.3 M mannitol solution. Eggs injected sperm were cultured in NCSU 23 medium (0.4% BSA) at 39$^{\circ}C$, 5% $CO_2$ in air for 192 h. This study were comprised 3 experiments. Experiment 1 compared the developmental efficiencies between the sperm-injected oocytes (Group 1) and further activated electrically (Group 2). Experiment 2 compared the expression of pcDNA3 LAC Z in the embryos produced by Group 1 and Group 2. Finally, experiment 3 carried out transfer of embryos (1-8 cell stage) transfected with pBC1 -hEPO into surrogate recipients synchronized by injection of combination of PG600 with hCG. The rates of cleavage and development into blastocyst stage in Group 2 were significantly higher than those of Group 1 (71.3% and 28.1% vs. 43.3% and 10.3%, respectively, p<0.05). Thirty (24.2%) out of 124 embryos analyzed in Group 2 were positive by X-gal. Similarly, in Group 1, 16.3% (8/49) were positive. After transfer of 789 embryos to 7 recipient gilts, three out of them examined by ultrasound became pregnant. One recipient is in day 50 pregnancy. On day 54 of gestation, two were carried out uterotomy in order to confirm the pregnancy One had 7 and another had 2 fetuses. We conclude that injection of sperm-mediated gene transfer will be used as a valuable tool for the production of transgenic piglets.

The Sesong Formation, mixed carbonate-siliciclastic deposits of late Middle Cambrian (Series 3) to Furongian in age, in the Taebaeksan Basin shows the Steptoean Positive Carbon Isotope Excursion (SPICE) with the ${\delta}^{13}C$ values ranging from 1.14 to 2.81‰ in the approximately 15-m-thick stratigraphic interval. The SPICE in the Sesong Formation occurs in the lower part of the Paibian Stage which contains trilobite biozones of the Fenghuangella laevis Zone, Prochuangia mansuyi Zone and the lower part of the Chuangia Zone. The Sesong Formation is composed of six lithofacies including laminated mudstone, nodular shale, laminated sandstone, massive sandstone, limestone conglomerate, and limestone-shale couplet facies. The Sesong Formation is known to have been deposited in the outer shelf below storm wave base. The SPICE occurs in the stratigraphic interval associated with highstand systems tract, correlative conformity and transgressive systems tract of the Sesong Formation. The peak carbon isotope value in the SPICE may coincide with the correlative conformity formed by relative sea-level fall. The occurrence of the SPICE in the Sesong Formation suggests that the SPICE can be used as a tool of global correlation for the successions of mixed carbonate-siliciclastics which lack fossils.
