  • This study presents a coolant void reactivity analysis of Canada Deuterium Uranium (CANDU)-6 and Advanced Canada Deuterium Uranium Reactor-700 (ACR-700) fuel lattices using a Monte Carlo code. The reactivity changes when the coolant was voided were assessed in terms of the contributions of four factors and spectrum shifts. In the case of single bundle coolant voiding, the contribution of each of the four factors in the ACR-700 lattice is large in magnitude with opposite signs, and their summation becomes a negative reactivity effect in contrast to that of the CANDU-6 lattice. Unlike the coolant voiding in a single fuel bundle, the $2{\times}2$ checkerboard coolant voiding in the ACR-700 lattice shows a positive reactivity effect. The neutron current between the no-void and voided bundles, and the four factors of each bundle were analyzed to figure out the mechanism of the positive coolant void reactivity of the checkerboard voiding case. Through a sensitivity study of fuel enrichment, type of burnable absorber, and moderator to fuel volume ratio, a design strategy for the CANDU reactor was suggested in order to achieve a negative coolant void reactivity even for the checkerboard voiding case.

  • A single-learner model which integrates the user's positive and negative perceptions is proposed by augmenting counterfactual data to the interaction data between users and items, which are mainly used in collaborative filtering in this study. The proposed CausRec showed superior performance compared to the existing NCF model in terms of F1 value and AUC in experiments using three published datasets: MovieLens 100K, Amazon Gift Card, and Amazon Magazine. Compared to the existing NCF model, the F1 and AUC values of CausRec showed 1.2% and 2.6% performance improvement in MovieLens 100K data, and 2.2% and 10% improvement in Amazon Gift Card data, respectively. In particular, in experiments using Amazon Magazine data, F1 and AUC values were improved by 11.7% and 21.9%, respectively, showing a significant performance improvement effect. The performance of CausRec is improved because both positive and negative perceptions of the item were reflected in the recommendation at the same time. It is judged that the proposed method was able to improve the performance of the collaborative filtering because it can simultaneously alleviate the sparsity and imbalance problems of the interaction data.

  • This study aims to examine the influence of growth rate, profitability and current ratio, which are confronted with static trade-off theory and pecking order theory, on capital structure of superior hospital and bankrupt hospital. Firstly, superior hospitals show positive correlation between growth rate and short-term loans, long-term loans, and short-term liabilities while bankrupt hospitals represent negative correlation. Superiority hospital and bankruptcy hospital show different financing behaviors, especially, short-term loan is the significant characteristic that discriminates between superior hospital and bankrupt hospital. Secondly, this paper studied the correlation between profitability and short-term loan, which the superior hospitals shows negative correlation, to contrast, bankrupt hospital have positive correlation. Consequently, the short-term loan is the most distinguishable factor between the superior hospital and bankrupt hospitals in terms of profitability. To conclude, this study shows that excess short-term loans can be the most important cause for hospital's bankrupt. Accordingly, strategic and effective policy about the short-term loan will be required in order to protect hospital's bankrupt.

  • In the present study, a simple corona-wire charger for unipolar diffusion charging of aerosol particles is designed, constructed, and characterized. Experimental characterizations of the electrostatic discharge in terms of current-voltage relationships of positive and negative coronas of the corona-wire charger are also presented and discussed. The charging current and ion concentration in the charging zone increased monotonically with corona voltage. The negative corona showed higher current than the positive corona. At the same corona voltages, the current in the discharge zone is about 600 times larger than the charging current. The ion number concentrations ranged within approximately $5.0{\times}10^{10}$ to $1.24{\times}10^{16}$ and $4.5{\times}10^{12}$ to $2{\times}10^{16}$ ions/$m^3$ in the discharge and charging zones, respectively. A numerical model is used to predict the behavior of the electric potential lines. Numerical results of ion penetration through the inner electrode are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • Enrofloxacin-colistin combination, widely used in Gram negative infections in veterinary sector, was investigated in terms of MIC and initial killing rate using E coli k 88ab, Salmonella typhimurium, Pasteurella multocida type A, Bordetella bronchiseptica and Staphylococcus aureus as test organisms. On the basis of MICs of enrofloxacin-colistin combination against the above bacteria, killing rates of the combination of enrofloxacin and colistin at the ratio of 5:0, 4:1, 3:2, 1:1, 2:3, 1:4 and 0:5, indicated high and rapid antibacterial acitivities against all but Staphylococcus aureus R-209, with the number of bacteria reducing to less than one percent within two hours. At the MIC of enrofloxacin or colistin, both antibacterials showed the highest killing rates during 2-4 hours against Gram negatives such as E coli K88ab,Pasteurella multocida type A and Bodetella bronchiseptica but allowed the regrowth of the same pathogens thereafter. On the while, the combination of two antibacterials at a fourth MIC resulted in high killing rate without bacterial regrowth during 24 hours, suggesting the synergistic antivacterial effects. The combination, however, did not show favourable activity against Gram negatime S typhimurium and Gram positive S aureus ergistic antibacterial activity against Gram negatime pathogens but also colistin showed LPS-neutraization, we could suggest the combination should provide clinically positive therapeutic armarium in Gram negative infections.

  • This study empirically analyzes the effect of firm overinvestment propensity on the value relevance of capital investment. In order to verify this point, this study attempts to analyze the value relevance of overinvestment firms' capital investments. The analysis was performed according to the model of Biddle et al. (2009) and McNichols and Stubben (2008) on overinvestment propensity for analysis, and the results are as follows. First, in terms of overinvestment, corporate capital investment shows negative value relevance, so the excessive investments above reasonable levels have reduced firm's value. In contrast, the value relevance for capital investment showed a positive value for firms whose managerial propensity changed, that is, from under-investment in the previous year, it shifted to overinvestment in the current year. Second, as a result of analyzing the value relevance of the investment increase according to the investment propensity, the overinvestment firms showed negative values and the underinvested firms showed positive values; thus, the value relevance of the increase in investment was opposite to the investment propensity of the firm. These findings confirm that the stock market differentially evaluates investment efficiency according to investment propensity, continuity, and investment alterations, and reflects it appropriately in the firm's value.

  • This study aimed to investigate the relevance of cardiovascular disease risk factors AI and AIP, divided into three groups, among 300 individuals who underwent health checkups at the hospital. Various variables such as Age, Sex, BMI, WC, TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C, FBS, HbA1C, SBP, DBP, HR, AI (TC/HDL-C), and AIP (log(TG/HDL-C)) were analyzed using statistical methods including frequency analysis, cross-tabulation, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis. The cross-analysis based on cardiovascular disease risk criteria revealed that men and individuals in their 50s had higher cardiovascular disease risk based on AI and AIP. Significant differences were observed in TG, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, SBP, DBP, AI (TC/HDL-C), and AIP (log(TG/HDL-C)) according to AI criteria. For the AIP criteria, TG, TC, HDL-C, FBS, HbA1C, HR, AI (TC/HDL-C), and AIP (log(TG/HDL-C)) were identified as cardiovascular disease risk factors. FBS and HbA1c showed the highest positive correlation In the correlation analysis, followed by TC and LDL-C. The lowest positive correlation was observed between LDL-C and DBP. In terms of negative correlation, HDL-C and AI had the highest negative correlation, while LDL-C and TG showed the lowest negative correlation. Multiple regression analysis indicated that the AI and AIP risk criteria had explanatory powers of 73.6% and 72.5%, respectively. HDL-C had the greatest negative effect on the AI risk criterion, while TG had the most significant influence on the AIP risk criterion. In conclusion, while other serological variables are important, managing HDL-C and TG levels may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

  • Purpose: The present study aimed to develop guidelines regarding initial choice of antibiotics for diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) by investigating bacterial isolates. Materials and Methods: This study included 223 DFU patients that visited a single tertiary hospital and underwent bacterial culture between January 2016 and February 2020. The study was conducted in two parts: 1) to compare bacterial isolates and wound healing according to comorbidities such as chronic kidney disease (CKD) and peripheral artery disease (PAD), and 2) to compare bacterial isolates according to wound depth using the Wagner classification. Results: Of the 223 patients, 43 had CKD (group A), 56 had PAD (group B), 30 had CKD and PAD (group C), and 94 had none of these comorbidities (group D). The isolation rate for multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria (MRGNB) and gram-negative to gram-positive bacteria ratio were highest in group C (p=0.018, p=0.038), and the proportion that achieved wound healing was lowest in group C (p<0.001). In the second part of the study, subjects were classified into 5 grades by wound depth using the Wagner classification; 13 grade I, 62 grade II, 60 grade III, 70 grade IV, and 17 grade V. No significant difference was observed between these grades in terms of isolation rates or gram-negative to gram-positive bacteria ratios. Conclusion: This study suggests antibiotics that cover gram-negative bacteria including MRGNB produces better results in the presence of CKD and PAD and that initial antibiotic choice should be based on the presence of CKD and PAD rather than wound depth.

  • The flow characteristics around an elliptic cylinder with axis ratio of AR=2 located near a flat plate were investigated experimentally to study the interaction between the cylinder wake and the turbulent boundary layer. The pressure distributions on the cylinder surface and on the flat plate were measured with varying the angle of attack of the cylinder. In addition, the velocity profiles of wake behind the cylinder were measured using a hot-wire anemometry As the angle of attack increases, the location of peak pressure on the windward and leeward surfaces of the cylinder moves toward the rear and front of the cylinder, respectively. At positive angles of attack, the position of the minimum pressure on the flat plate surface is moved downstream, but it is moved upstream at negative angles of attack. With increasing the angle of attack, the vortex shedding frequency is gradually decreased and the critical angel of attack exists in terms of the gap ratio. By installing the elliptic cylinder at negative angle of attack, the turbulent boundary layer over the flat plate is disturbed more than that at positive incidence. This may be attributed to the shift of separation point on the lower surface of the cylinder according to the direction of the angle of attack.
