  • This study started with the awareness that domestic studies on China's maritime gray zone strategy have been following the analysis results of previous studies, and that only principled positions and directions for countermeasures remain at the 'declarative and conceptual' level. In order to overcome the above problems, the author analyzed the maritime gray zone strategy being developed in the South China Sea, East China Sea, and the West Sea and Ieodo areas, recognizing that China is developing a maritime gray area strategy based on the 'three warfare' that constitutes its own strategic culture. As a result of the analysis, it is predicted that China's maritime gray zone strategy will be more aggressive in order to occupy the West Sea and Ieodo in the future. As a concept of our naval response strategy, The author proposed to 'neutralize' the development effect of 'three warfare', the basis of China's maritime gray zone strategy, to stop the gradual change in the phenomenon induced by China, and to continuously pursue 'return' to a maritime order based on norms and rules. In this study, a 'concrete and systemized' countermeasure to implement this was presented.

  • In human, ultrasonography is used to measure the pennation angle in various muscles to identify muscle functions such as force production, and to study alterations of the pennation angle during muscle contraction, hypertrophy, and atrophy. However, assessments of the pennation angle have not yet been conducted in dogs. This study aims to assess the normal pennation angle of the tibialis cranialis muscle in dogs using ultrasound and to detect changes in this angle in dogs with muscular atrophy. Sixty-eight healthy dogs were examined to establish normal values, while 12 ataxic and 12 lame dogs with suspected hindlimb muscle atrophy were also included. The pennation angle was measured using ultrasound at the midpoint between the proximal end of the tibia and the malleolus, measuring the angle between the muscle bundle and the deep aponeurosis. To confirm the significance between the 5 breeds and to identify a difference between normal and atrophied muscles, statistical analysis was conducted. The study found no significant difference in pennation angle between breeds, with mean values (± standard deviation) of 4.97° (± 1.88) in neutral, 7.25° (± 2.68) in flexion, and 3.31° (± 1.33) in extension positions. Decrease of the pennation angle was identified in muscle atrophy and the flexion position was determined to be the most appropriate for pennation angle measurement of tibialis cranialis muscle. We recommend considering the pennation angle as a valuable indicator of muscle health in dogs, as it demonstrates significant potential for diagnosing and monitoring muscular conditions.

  • Objective: This retrospective study evaluated the mandibular condyle position before and after bimaxillary orthognathic surgery performed with the mandibular condyle positioned manually in patients with mandibular prognathism using cone-beam computed tomography. Methods: Overall, 88 mandibular condyles from 44 adult patients (20 female and 24 male) diagnosed with mandibular prognathism due to skeletal Class III malocclusion who underwent bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy (BSSRO) and Le Fort I performed using the manual condyle positioning method were included. Cone-beam computed tomography images obtained 1-2 weeks before (T0) and approximately 6 months after (T1) surgery were analyzed in three planes using 3D Slicer software. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05 level. Results: Significant inward rotation of the left mandibular condyle and significant outward rotation of the right mandibular condyle were observed in the axial and coronal planes (P < 0.05). The positions of the right and left condyles in the sagittal plane and the distance between the most medial points of the condyles in the coronal plane did not differ significantly (P > 0.05). Conclusions: While the change in the sagittal plane can be maintained as before surgery with manual positioning during the BSSRO procedure, significant inward and outward rotation was observed in the axial and coronal planes, respectively, even in the absence of concomitant temporomandibular joint disorder before or after the operation. Further long-term studies are needed to correlate these findings with possible clinical consequences.

  • Objectives This study was designed to compare curvature and intervertebral disc angle of the cervical spine in different prone positions. Methods 30 adults aged 19~60 years were enrolled in this study. Volunteers in this uncontrolled trial were taken an x-ray of cervical spine on lateral. Four radiographs were taken for each volunteer, in standing, prone position with U-type pillow (prone position A), rectangular pillow (prone position B), and prone position without pillow (prone position C). After measuring the cervical angle, Ishihara index, craniovertebral angle, intervertebral angle, we analysed the lordotic angle and foward head posture. The data was anlysed by analysis of variance and pearson correlation coefficient. Results Cervical angles of prone position without pillow (prone position C) significantly decreased compared with those in standing position (p<0.001). Ishihara index of prone position without pillow (prone position C) also significantly decreased compared with those in standing position (p<0.001). Craniovertebral angle of prone position with pillow (prone position A, B) significantly increased with those in standing position (p<0.001). Intervertebral angle of prone position with pillow (prone position A, B) at the C3-7 levels significantly increased with those in standing position (p<0.001). Intervertebral angle of prone position without pillow (prone position C) at the C3-5 levels significantly decreased with those in standing position (p<0.001). The angle of intervertebral disc significntly decreased in kyphotic cervical levels. Conclusions Different prone position clearly resulted changes in cervical spine curvature and intervertebral disc angle. And it is related to cervical spine lordotic angle and sagittal alignment in standing position and prone position.

  • This study introduces the CFTA girder(Concrete-Filled and Tied Steel Tubular Arch Girder) which is a combined structural system of traditional CFT, arch, and prestress structures. Static load tests and structural behavior analyses were carried out for a 25m long CFTA girder. In the analysis, each load of 58kN, 88kN, 148kN, 207kN,and 298kN was applied incrementally at the positions of 1.0 m distances in both directions from the center of the girder. On each test, strain and displacement were measured. Linear static FEM analyses using Strand7 code were also performed to check the structural stability and to investigate the effects of prestressing(${\pm}$20%) and material property(Young's modulus) on the displacement and strain. The results of this study are summarized as follows: the initial strain & displacement under selfweight and prestressing were influenced with the variation of prestressing, but they were mainly effected only by Young's modulus when additional loads were applied.

  • As part of the research program "Freshwater Prokaryotic Organisms Research and Discovery," freshwater samples were collected from the Nakdonggang River. After plating the samples on several culture media and incubating aerobically, approximately 900 bacterial strains were isolated and identified using 16S rRNA gene sequences. Among the bacterial isolates showing higher than 98.7% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with those of already confirmed bacterial species previously unreported in Korea, 29 strains were selected. These strains were phylogenetically diverse and belonged to 3 phyla, 6 classes, 13 orders, and 21 genera. At the genus level, these previously unreported species were found to be affiliated with Novosphingobium, Sphingomonas, Polymorphobacter, Croceibacterium, Devosia, Endobacterium, Agaricicola, Bradyrhizobium, Paracoccus, and Pseudotabrizicola of the class Alphaproteobacteria; Undibacterium, Azonexus, and Dechloromonas of the class Betaproteobacteria; Acinetobacter and Budvicia of the class Gammaproteobacteria; Streptomyces, Nocardioides, Mycobacterium, and Cellulomonas of the phylum Actinomycetota; Flavobacterium and Pedobacter of the phylum Bacteroidota. These species were further characterized by examining their Gram reaction, colony and cell morphologies, biochemical properties, and phylogenetic positions. Detailed descriptions of these 29 previously unreported species are provided.

  • This study observes the difference in the actual regional ripple effect of the decrease in admission resources due to the decrease in school age population, which has been weak in empirical studies, and how much the decrease in competition rate by department nationwide provides a significant shock to the decrease in enrollment rate in the population unit. An empirical quantitative analysis was attempted. As a result of applying the panel-tobit regression model, a clear gap was confirmed in the decrease in the registration rate due to the decrease in the competition rate both nationally and in the provinces, and in particular, a highly significant relationship was derived with the decrease in the recruitment rate. In particular, the sensitivity of the risk of unrecruitment due to a decrease in competition rate was the highest in the Jeolla region (0.499), followed by the Gangwon region (0.475) and the Gyeongsang region (0.471), and the metropolitan region (0.158) was confirmed to be the most stable. This suggests that the gap in insufficient funding has gradually widened by region over the past 10 years, and that the shock wave becomes more pronounced in the provinces farther away from the metropolitan area. Based on this study, if we deviate from the standardized application of university development policies for the metropolitan area and regional universities, and present a customized higher education strategy for each region, it will be an opportunity to prevent local extinction due to a decrease in the school-age population and achieve coexistence with higher education institutions and regions at the same time.

  • We present a novel algorithm for creating 2D maps tailored for autonomous navigation within orchards. Recognizing that fruit trees in orchards are typically aligned in rows, our primary goal is to accurately detect these tree rows and project this information onto the map. Initially, we propose a simple algorithm that recognizes trees from point cloud data by analyzing the spatial distribution of points. We then introduce a method for detecting fruit tree rows based on the positions of recognized fruit trees, which are integrated into the 2D orchard map. Validation of the proposed approach was conducted using real-world orchard point cloud data acquired via LiDAR. The results demonstrate high tree detection accuracy of 90% and precise tree row mapping, confirming the method's efficacy. Additionally, the generated maps facilitate the development of natural navigation paths that align with the orchard's layout.

  • Purpose: Pelvis tilting in sagittal plane influences the acetabular cup position. Majority of total hip arthroplasty (THA) are performed in lateral decubitus surgical position. This study is to assess whether there is any difference in sacral slope between standing and lateral decubitus position and influence of this variation in planning acetabular cup anteversion. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective study including 50 patients operated between January 2020 to March 2022. Preoperative radiograph included lumbosacral spine lateral X-ray in standing, supine and lateral decubitus positions to calculate the sacral slope for assessment of anterior or posterior pelvic tilting. In our study, we determined the position of the acetabular cup based on changes in sacral slope between standing and lateral decubitus postures. For patients whose sacral slope increased from lateral decubitus to standing, we implanted the acetabular component with a higher degree of anteversion. Conversely, for patients with reverse phenomenon, the cup was inserted at lower anteversion. Results: Twenty-four patients (48.0%) had increase in sacral slope from lateral decubitus to standing whereas 26 patients (52.0%) had decrease in sacral slope. There was linear correlation between difference in preoperative sacral slope and postoperative cross table lateral cup anteversion. Harris hip scores improved from 40.78 to 85.43. There was no subluxation or dislocation in any patient at minimum 2-year follow-up. Conclusion: Individualized acetabular cup placement is important for better functional outcome in THA. Evaluation of pelvic tilting in lateral decubitus position is necessary for better positioning of acetabular cup and avoid postoperative complications.
