As the role of robots expands, flexible task planning methods are attracting attention from various domains. Many task planning frameworks are introduced to efficiently work in a wide range of areas. In order to work well in a broad region with multiple robots, various communication conditions should be controlled by task planning frameworks. However, few methods are proposed. In this paper, we propose mission planning methods according to the communication status of robots. The proposed method was verified through experiments assuming different communication states with a multi-robot system.
Due to pandemic situations, the development of home robots that can make the house an optimized space for various activities is active. This study aims to confirm the effectiveness of approach or avoidance behavior for feedback positioning on the user experience, depending on the context in which the robot performs the task. Based on two types of the task contexts(Reactive vs. Proactive) and three types of robot feedback positioning(No move vs. Avoidance vs. Approach), six different scenarios were designed for experimental study. Likeability, perceived intelligence, rapport, negative attitude and predictability of behavior are measured for each conditions. The result showed the main effects of perceived intelligence, rapport, predictability in the context of tasks, and of likability, perceived intelligence, rapport in robot feedback positioning. The interaction effects were shown in likeability and perceived intelligence. In conclusion, approach-avoidance experiences can also be applied to robot behaviors as well, and the negative effects of avoidance have been significantly confirmed.
The ambiguity resolution is an essential task for the precise carrier phase differential GPS. In practice, however, there are still many problems in resolving the ambiguity in kinematic mode, especially in the urban areas. The multipath in received signal, the frequent change in visible satellites, and the cyclic slips make the ambiguity resolution very difficult task in real-time operation. In this paper, we consider a differential positioning with the float ambiguity that is free from the integer constraint. The float ambiguity estimation if carried out by the Kalman filter. The float and fixed ambiguities are combined together to determine the position in real-time kinematic mode.
When using robot manipulator to carry out autonomous tasks, the positioning accuracy of the robot manipulator relative to a reference coordinate frame is of greate importance. The task program, which is generated by off-line CAD-system and used in actual robot positioning, may cause serious amount of the absolute positioning error of the robot manipulator. In this study, a robot performance test and calibration algorithms are proposed in order to improve the absolute positioning accuracy of the robot end effector. Experiments were also carried out by utilizing the HYUNDAI Robot AE 7601 and KIM2-Tester, a three dimensional measurement system, which is developed in Robotics & Fluid Power Control Lab. at Korea Institute of Science and Technology.
Lane-level vehicle positioning is an important task for enhancing the accuracy of in-vehicle navigation systems and the safety of autonomous vehicles. GPS (Global Positioning System) and DGPS (Differential GPS) are generally used in navigation service systems, which however only provide an accuracy level up to 2~3 m. In this paper, we propose a 3D vision based lane-level positioning technique which can provides accurate vehicle position. The proposed method determines the current driving lane of a vehicle by tracking the 3D position of traffic signs which stand at the side of the road. Using a stereo camera, the 3D tracking paths of traffic signs are computed and their projections to the 2D road plane are used to determine the distance from the vehicle to the signs. Several experiments are performed to analyze the feasibility of the proposed method in many real roads. According to the experimental results, the proposed method can achieve 90.9% accuracy in lane-level positioning.

Positioning technology is performing important functions in augmented reality, smart factory, and autonomous driving. Among the positioning techniques, the positioning method using beacons has been considered a challenging task due to the deviation of the RSSI value. In this study, the position of a moving object is predicted by training a neural network that takes the RSSI value of the receiver as an input and the distance as the target value. To do this, the measured distance versus RSSI was collected.

A wireless positioning system using ultra-wideband (UWB) for indoor wireless positioning uses ranging data in order to accurately estimate location. Commonly, ranging uses time of arrival (TOA), time difference of arrival (TDOA) based on arrival time. The most fundamental issue in the ranging for wireless positioning is to obtain clock synchronization among the sensor nodes and to correct an error caused by the relative clock offset from each node. In this paper, we propose ranging and positioning technique using common clock in order to solve both clock synchronization and clock offset problems. To verify the performance of proposed, we simulated ranging and positioning in channel model introduced by IEEE 802.15.4a Task Group and then results show that location estimation is unaffected by clock offset.
The increased use of computers has introduced a variety kind of human-computer interfaces. Mouse is one of the useful interface tools to place the cursor on the desired position on the monitor. This paper suggested a foot controlled isotonic mouse which was similar to the ordinary hand-controlled mouse except that positioning was controlled by the right foot and the clicking was performed by the left foot. Experimental results showed that both the index of difficulty(IOD) and the display-control gain(DC gain) varied the total movement time in a target acquisition task on the monitor. The present authors also drew the optimal display-control gain of the foot-controlled isotonic mouse over the index of difficulty of 1.0 to 3.0. The optimal display-control gain, i. e., 0.256, could be used when designing a foot-controlled isotonic mouse.

When mobile navigator device accesses data randomly, the cache memory performance is rapidly deteriorated due to low memory access locality. For instance, GPS (General Positioning System) of navigator program for automobiles or drones, that are currently in common use, uses data from 32 satellites and computes current position of a receiver. This computation of positioning is the major part of GPS which accounts more than 50% computation in the program. In this computation task, the satellite signals are received in real time and stored in buffer memories. At this task, since necessary data cannot be sequentially stored, the data is read and used at random. This data accessing patterns are generated randomly, thus, memory system performance is worse by low data locality. As a result, it is difficult to process data in real time due to low data localization. Improving the low memory access locality inherited on the algorithms of conventional communication applications requires a certain optimization technique to solve this problem. In this study, we try to do optimizations with data and memory to improve the locality problem. In experiment, we show that our case study can improve processing speed of core computation and improve our overall system performance by 14%.

Satellite-based positioning system such as global positioning system(GPS) has played a major role in data capture technology for constructing GIS database. Recent advances in satellite-based positioning technology have made the task of precisely locating features fast, easy, and inexpensive, and determined their current latitude and longitude. However, there are still situations where satellite-based positioning service will not provide users with desired precision such as in urban environments, that is, the only severe handicap still hampering satellite-based positioning is the well-known problem of restricted satellite visibilities. As the majority of the creation and updating of road and street network are carried out in urban environments, the obstruction problem considerably impedes the wider application of satellite-based positioning. This paper presents the current GPS-based positioning environment for GIS data acquisition in urban areas. A field experiment with measurement vehicle has been performed under varying operational conditions and areas where shading of satellite signal is encountered due to buildings and overpasses with measurement vehicle in order to evaluate the availability of existing GPS-based positioning. We found that the current GPS-base positioning system we used in this study was insufficient for a precise GIS data acquisition. This research would make a contribution for the development of base data to supplementary technology, which can complement the existing GPS-based positioning.
