  • This study presented a model predictive tracking control algorithm of autonomous truck based on object state estimation using extended Kalman filter. To design the model, the 1-layer laser scanner was used to estimate position and velocity of the object using extended Kalman filter. Based on these estimations, the desired linear path for object tracking was computed. The lateral and yaw angle errors were computed using the computed linear path and relative positions of the truck. The computed errors were used in the model predictive control algorithm to compute the optimal steering angle for object tracking. The performance evaluation was conducted on Matlab/Simulink environments using planar truck model and actual point data obtained from laser scanner. The evaluation results showed that the tracking control algorithm developed in this study can track the object reasonably based on the model predictive control algorithm based on the estimated states.

  • This paper describes a fully digitalized driver for BLDC motors and the driver is realized by a single chip microprocessor. The speed change can be done by using the signal obtained from the position detecting sensor and adjusting the pulse width at the input channel of power module. In order to verify the effectiveness, an repetitive control method is adopted in the speed control tracking a periodic reference change in the BLDC motor system. The experimental results are shown for the reference tracking accurately according to the design parameter variation in the repetitive controller design.

  • A robust tracking controller design was developed for a rotary motion control system. The friction force versus the angular velocity was measured and modeled as a combination of linear and nonlinear components. By adding a model-based friction compensator to a nominal proportional-integral-derivative controller, it was possible to build a simulated control system model that agreed well with the experimental results. A zero-phase error tracking controller was selected as the feedforward tracking controller and implemented based on the estimated closed-loop transfer function. To provide robustness against external disturbances and modeling uncertainties, a disturbance observer was added in the position feedback loop. The performance improvement of the overall tracking controller structure was verified through simulations and experiments.

  • A new scheme for a mobile robot to track and capture a moving object using camera images is proposed. The moving object is assumed to be a point-object and is projected onto an image plane to form a geometrical constraint equation that provides the position data of the object based on the kinematics of the active camera. Uncertainties in position estimation caused by the point-object assumption are compensated for using the Kalman filter. To generate the shortest time path to capture the moving object, the linear and angular velocities are estimated and utilized. In this paper, the experimental results of the tracking and capturing of a target object with the mobile robot are presented.

  • This paper presents a foot movement tracking system using ultrasonic sensors and inertial sensors, where the position and velocity of foot are computed using inertial sensors and ultrasonic sensors mounted on a shoe. A foot movement can be estimated using an inertial navigation algorithm only; however, the error tends to increase due to biases of gyroscopes and accelerometers. To reduce the error, a localization system using ultrasonic sensors is additionally used. In the localization system using ultrasonic sensors, the position is continuously calculated in the absolute coordinate. An indirect Kalman filter is used to combine inertial sensors and ultrasonic sensors. Through experiments, it is shown that the proposed system can track a foot movement.

  • A new method to deal with GPS indoor positioning by means of time synchronized switching GPS repeater has been developed by authors[1]. But the developed indoor positioning system has problems. Therefore, we proposed a method for indoor positioning using GNSS Repeater-Assisted. To solve the 3-dimensional user's position, the 4 or more retransmission antennas are needed in the previously proposed methods. If a GPS repeater periodically transmits the signal like as pseudollite, the information for assisting an acquisition and tracking can be informed to receiver. Then, the user position can be calculated using the induced weak signal. The advantage of the proposed algorithm is use of only 1 re-transmission antenna because the re-transmitted signal are not used for positioning but used for assisting an acquisition and tracking weak signals induced indoor. We analyze the propose algorithms through the experiment and performed the test of feasibility.

  • Friction is an important factor for precise position tracking control of servo systems. Servo systems with highly nonlinear friction are sensitive to the variation of operating condition. To overcome this problem, we use the LuGre friction model which can consider dynamic characteristics of friction. The LuGre friction model is used as a feed-forward compensator to improve tracking performance of servo systems. The parameters of the LuGre friction model are identified through experiments. The experimental result shows that the tracking performance of servo systems with higherly nonlinear friction can be improved by using feed-forward friction compensation.

  • This paper describes the development of integrated head and eye tracker system. Vision based head tracker is performed and it has 7mm error in 300mm translation. The epi-polar method and point matching are used for determining a position of head and rotational degree. High brightness LEDs are installed on helmet and the installed pattern is very important to match the points of stereo system. Eye tracker also uses LED for constant illumination. A Position of gazed object(3m distance) is determined by pupil tracking and eye tracker has 1~5 pixel error. Integration of result data of each tracking system is important. RS-232C communication is applied to integrated system and triggering signal is used for synchronization.

  • Stand-alone global position system receiver based on C/A code tracking generates position error of 100m mainly due to the selective availability and ionospheric and tropospheric delay errors. The differential GPS is the most commonly used method for removing those bias range error components. The relative GPS, although somewhat restrictive in its use, is ideally suited to the car monitoring system for improved Automatic Vehicle location, especially where the DGPS infrastructure is not available. The RGPS does not require any additional hardware, facility or external infrastructure and can be operated within the system with existing host computer and communication link. This paper presents detailed description of the RGPS concept and its implementation for real-time data processing. Performance of RGPS is evaluated with real data and is compared with DGPS.
