  • The paper introduces a development result for displacement measurement system of multiple moving objects based on image processing technique. The image processing method adopts inertia moment theory for obtaining the centroid of the targets and basic processing algorithms of gray, binary, closing, labeling and etc. To get precise displacement measurement in spite of multiple moving targets, a CCD camera with zoom is used and the position of camera is changed by a pan/tilt system. The fiducial marks on the fixed positions are used as the sensing points for the image processing to recognize the position errors in directions of X -Y coordinates. The precise alignment device is pan /tilt of X - Y type and the pan/tilt is controlled by DC servomotors which are driven by 80c196kc microprocessor based controller. The centers of the fiducial marks are obtained by a inertia moment method. By applying the developed precise position control system for multiple targets, the displacement of multiple moving targets are detected automatically and are stored in the database system in a real time. By using database system and internet, displacement data can be confirmed at a great distance and analyzed. The developed system shows the effectiveness such that it realizes the precision about 0.12mm in the position control of X -Y coordinates.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the reliability of unilateral hip abductor strength assessment in side-lying with break and make test in subjects with pelvic drop. Hip abduction muscles are very important in the hip joint structures. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate their strength in a reliable way. Methods: Twenty-five subjects participated in this study. Unilateral isometric hip abductor muscle strength was measured in side-lying, with use of a specialized tensiometer using smart KEMA system for make test, of a hand held dynamometer for break test. Coefficients of variation, and intra class correlation coefficients were calculated to determine test-retest reliability of hip abductor strength. Results: In make test, maximal hip abductor strength in the side-lying position was significantly higher compared with break test (p<0.05). Additionally, Test-retest reliability of hip abductor strength measurements in terms of coefficients of variation (3.7% for make test, 16.1% for break test) was better in the side-lying position with make test. All intraclass correlation coefficients with break test were lower than make test (0.90 for make test, 0.73 for break test). Conclusion: The side-lying body position with make test offers more reliable assessment of unilateral hip abductor strength than the same position with break test. Make test in side-lying can be recommended for reliable measurement of hip abductor strength in subjects with pelvic drop.

  • The location measurement technique of moving worker in dangerous areas, is necessary for safety in the mines, basements, warehouses, etc. There are various measurement techniques about moving node of position in a restricted environment. Trigonometric Method, one of measurement techniques, is commonly used because of its easiness. However, errors occur frequently when measuring distance and position due to radio interference and physical disability with measuring instruments. This paper proposed a method which is more accurate and shows reduced margin of error than existing trigonometric method by recalculating distance between Anchor and moving node with various measuring instruments. By adding Anchor when calculating distance and position of moving node's estimated point, suggested technique obtains at least 41% efficiency compared to existing method.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a minimally constraint joint angle measurement system for the feedback control of FES (functional electrical stimulation) locomotion. Feedback control is desirable for the efficient FES locomotion, however, the simple on-off control schemes are mainly used in clinic because the currently available angle measurement systems are heavily constraint or cosmetically poor. We designed a new angle measurement system consisting of a magnet and magnetic sensors located below and above the ankle joint, respectively, in the rear side of ipsilateral leg. Two magnetic sensors are arranged so that the sensing axes are perpendicular each other. Multiple positions of sensors attachment on the shank part of the ankle joint model and also human ankle joint were selected and the accuracy of the measured angle at each position was investigated. The reference ankle joint angle was measured by potentiometer and motion capture system. The ankle joint angle was determined from the fitting curve of the reference angle and magnetic flux density relationship. The errors of the measured angle were calculated at each sensor position for the ankle range of motion (ROM) $-20{\sim}15$ degrees (dorsiflexion as positive) which covers the ankle ROM of both stroke patients and normal subjects during locomotion. The error was the smallest with the sensor at the position 1 which was the nearest position to the ankle joint. In case of human experiment, the RMS (root mean square) errors were $0.51{\pm}1.78(0.31{\sim}0.64)$ degrees and the maximum errors were $1.19{\pm}0.46(0.68{\sim}1.58)$ degrees. The proposed system is less constraint and cosmetically better than the existing angle measurement system because the wires are not needed.

  • The measured values of a same object should remain constant regardless of the object's position in the image. In other words, its measured values should not vary as its position in the image changes. However, lens' image distortion, heterogeneous light source, varied angle between the measuring apparatus and the object, and different surroundings where the testing is set up will all cause variation in the measurement of the object when the object's position in the image changes. This research attempts to compensate the machine vision image distortion caused by the object's position in the image by developing the compensation table. The compensation is accomplished by facilitating users to obtain the correcting object and serves the objective of improving the precision of measurement.

  • This paper proposes a Taylor-series design method which reduces the height error of the tag when readers are arranged at the same height in 3-dimensional space. The proposed method consists of two steps. Firstly, the planar position is estimated by the Taylor-series method using the TDOA measurement. Next, the height is estimated from the estimated planar position. In order to show the validity of the proposed method, computer simulations were performed for the static case and linear trajectory of the tag. Results show that the proposed method gives convergent estimated position and better height estimate than the Taylor series method.

  • This paper introduces a methodology of the precise control of a mobile/task robot using visual information captured bythe camera attached at the hand of the task robot. The major problem residing in the precise control of mobile/task robot is providing an accurate and stable base for the task robot through the precise control of mobile robot. On account of uncertainties on the surface, the precise control of mobile robot is not feasible without using external position sensor. In this paper, the methodology for the precise control of mobile robot is proposed, which recognizes the position of mobile robot using the camera attached at the hand of the task robot. While the task robot is approaching to an assembly part, the position of mobile robot is measured using the line correspondence between the image capturesd by the camera and the real assembly part, and using the kinematic transformation from the hand of the task robot to the mobile robot. To verify the solidness of this method, experimental data for the measurement of camera position/orientation and for the precise control of mobile robot using measurement are shown.

  • The outer race of CV(constant velocity) joint is an important load-supporting automotive put that transmits torque between the transmission gear box and driving wheel. The outer race is difficult to forge because its shape is very complicated and the required dimensional tolerances are very small. To guarantee the dimensional accuracy of the forged CV Joint, the quick and precise measurement is required to increase the inspection speed of forged products. Therefore in this study, PP(Pre-Position) Device to decrease the inspection time of measuring system has been developed to cope with forging cycle time. The measured inspection time confirms that the PPD is very effective in decreasing inspection time.

  • This paper describes the problem generated in PLS luminous flux measurement with integrating sphere. In RS case, we don't use the center position of the sphere but side position for flux test The difference of the lamp position makes the luminous flux difference of same light source. We confirmed the phenomenon with three other kinds of lamps and ensured the repeatability and reliability of this work at two laboratories. finally, the correction factor which should be applied for the PLS test at Side position was calculated.

  • In this study, an algorithm was developed to measure the volume of meat products passing through the conveyor line of a portion cutter using a stereo vision sensor and calculate the cutting position to cut them into the same weight unit. Previously, three or more laser profile sensors were used for this purpose. However, in this study, the volume was measured using four stereo vision sensors, and the accuracy of the developed algorithm was verified to confirm the applicability of the technique. The technique consists of stereo correction, scanning and outlier removal, and cutting position calculation procedures. The comparison between the volume measured using the developed algorithm and the results measured using an accurate 3D scanner confirmed an accuracy of 91%. Additionally, in the case of 50g target weight, where the cutting position calculation is crucial, the cutting position was calculated at a speed of about 2.98 seconds, further confirming the applicability of the developed technique.
