Recently, the radio navigation method utilizing the GPS(Global Positioning System) satellite information is widely used as the method to measure the position of objects. As GPS applications become wider and fields based on various positioning information emerge, new methods for achieving higher accuracy are required. In the case of autonomous vehicles, the INS(Inertial Navigation System) using the IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit), and the DR(Dead Reckoning) algorithm using the in-vehicle sensor, are used for the purpose of preventing degradation of accuracy of the GPS and to measure the position in the shadow area. However, these positioning methods have many elements of problems due not only to the existence of various shaded areas such as building areas that are continually enlarged, tunnels, underground parking lots and but also to the limitations of accumulation-based location estimation methods that increase in error over time. In this paper, an efficient positioning method in a large underground parking space using Fingerprint method is proposed by placing the AP(Access Points) and directional antennas in the form of four anchors using WLAN, a popular means of wireless communication, for positioning the vehicle in the GPS shadow area. The proposed method is proved to be able to produce unchanged positioning results even in an environment where parked vehicles are moved as time passes.

In this study, an WiFi fingerprinting method based on the k-nn algorithm was applied to improve the accuracy of location tracking of a moving train on a platform and evaluate the performance to minimize the estimation error of location tracking. The data related to the position of the moving train are monitored by the control center for trains and used widely for the safety and comfort of passengers. The train location tracking methods based on WiFi installed by telecom companies were evaluated. In this study, a simulator was developed to consider the environments of two cases; in already installed WiFi devices and new installed WiFi devices. The developed simulator can simulate the localized estimation of the position under a variety of conditions, such as the number of WiFi devices, the area of platform and entry velocity of train. To apply location tracking algorithms, a k-nn algorithm and fuzzy k-nn algorithm were applied selectively according to the underlying condition and also four distance measurement algorithms were applied to compare the error of location tracking. In conclusion, the best method to estimate train location tracking is a combination of the k-nn algorithm and Minkoski distance measurement at a 0.5m grid unit and 8 WiFi AP installed.
This paper presents an observer to estimate the displacement of hydraulic cylinders of an underwater robot for harbour construction using a pressure sensor. In harbour constructing, we place heavy armour stones weighing over 2~3 tons on the surface of the bank to protect it from storming wave. This work typically done by a diver is difficult and dangerous so that we have developed Stone Diver which is the underwater robot for harbour construction. The robot needs a displacement sensors to control the position of hydraulic cylinders. The position sensors mounted outside the cylinders cause poor durability in construction site where shock and dust usually occur. However, the pressure sensor mounted inside a waterproof box improves the durability. Based on the dynamic parameters and the pressures in the cylinder, the observer estimates the cylinder's position. This paper presents the positional accuracy of the pressure based observer and the performance of the underwater robot to assemble the armour stones.
Even though the popularity of projection mapping continues to increase and it is being implemented in more and more settings, most current projection mapping systems are limited to special purposes, such as outdoor events, live theater and musical performances. This lack of versatility arises from the large number of projectors needed and their proper calibration. Furthermore, we cannot change the positions and poses of projectors, or their projection targets, after the projectors have been calibrated. To overcome these problems, we propose a projection mapping method using a projector robot that can perform projection mapping in more general or ubiquitous situations, such as shopping malls. We can estimate a projector's position and pose with the robot's self-localization sensors, but the accuracy of this approach remains inadequate for projection mapping. Consequently, the proposed method solves this problem by combining self-localization by robot sensors with position and pose estimation of projection targets based on a 3D model. We first obtain the projection target's 3D model and then use it to accurately estimate the target's position and pose and thus achieve accurate projection mapping with a projector robot. In addition, our proposed method performs accurate projection mapping even after a projection target has been moved, which often occur in shopping malls. In this paper, we employ Ubiquitous Display (UD), which we are researching as a projector robot, to experimentally evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The tracking filter plays a key role in accurate estimation and prediction of maneuvering the vessel's position and velocity. Different methods are used for tracking. However, the most commonly used method is the Kalman filter and its modifications. The ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter is one of the special cases of the general solution provided by the Kalman filter. It is a third order filter that computes the smoothed estimates of position, velocity, and acceleration for the nth observation, and predicts the next position and velocity. Although found to track a maneuvering target with good accuracy than the constant velocity ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ filter, the ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter does not perform impressively under high maneuvers, such as when the target is undergoing changing accelerations. This study aims to track a highly maneuvering target experiencing jerky motions due to changing accelerations. The ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter is extended to include the fourth state that is, constant jerk to correct the sudden change of acceleration to improve the filter's performance. Results obtained from simulations of the input model of the target dynamics under consideration indicate an improvement in performance of the jerky model, ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}-{\eta}$ algorithm as compared to the constant acceleration model, ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ in terms of error reduction and stability of the filter during target maneuver.

Determination of local tie vectors between the space geodetic techniques such as VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometer), SLR (Satellite Laser Ranging), DORIS (Doppler Orbit determination and Radiopositioning Integrated on Satellite), GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is essential for combination of ITRF (International Terrestrial Reference Frame). Therefore, it is required to compute IVP (Invariant Point) position of each space geodetic technique with high accuracy. In this study, we have computed Sejong VLBI IVP position by using updated mathematical model for adjustment computation so that the improvement on efficiency and reliability in computation are obtained. The measurements used for this study are the coordinates of reflective targets on the VLBI antenna and their accuracies are set to 1.5 mm for each component. The results show that the position of VLBI IVP together with its standard deviation is successfully estimated when they are compared with those of the results from previous study. However, it is notable that additional terrestrial surveying should be performed so that realistic measurement errors are incorporated in the adjustment computation process.

The control of diamond turning is usually achieved through a laser-interferometer feedback of slide position. The limitation of this control scheme is that the feedback signal does not account for additional dynamics of the tool post and the material removal process. If the tool post is rigid and the material removal process is relatively static, then such a non-collocated position feedback control scheme may surfice. However, as the accuracy requirement gets tighter and desired surface cnotours become more complex, the need for a direct tool-tip sensing becomes inevitable. The physical constraints of the machining process prohibit any reasonable implementation of a tool-tip motion measurement. It is proposed that the measured force normal to the face of the workpiece can be filtered through an appropriate admittance transfer function to result in the estimated dapth of cut. This can be compared to the desired depth of cut to generate the adjustment control action in additn to position feedback control. In this work, the design methodology on the admittance model-based control with a conventional controller is presented. The recursive least-squares algorithm with forgetting factor is proposed to identify the parameters and update the cutting process in real time. The normal cutting forces are measured to identify the cutting dynamics in the real diamond turning process using the precision dynamoneter. Based on the parameter estimation of cutting dynamics and the admitance model-based nanodynamic control scheme, simulation results are shown.

Recently, an RSSI-based fingerprinting localization technology has been widely used in indoor location-based services. In the conventional fingerprinting method, as many APs as possible are used to increase the accuracy of location estimation. In another study, a part of APs having the strongest RSSI signal intensity are selected and used to reduce the time spent for positioning. However, it does not reflect the influence of RSSI occurred from the changes of the surrounding environments such as human movement or moving obstacles in a real environment. The environmental changes may cause the difference between the predicted RSSI signal strength value and the measured value, and thus occur an unpredictable error in the position estimation. Therefore, in order to mitigate the error caused by environmental factors, it is necessary to select APs suitable for indoor positioning estimation considering the changes in the surrounding environments. In this paper, we propose a method to select stable APs considering the influence of surrounding environments and derive a suitable positioning algorithm. In addition, we compare and analyze the performance of the proposed method with that of the existing AP selection methods through experiments.
This study evaluated thermal image real-time estimation and fire alarm using by a CCD camera, which has been a seamless feature-point analysis method, according to the angle and position and image fusion by a vector coordinate point set-up of equal shape. The system has higher accuracy, fixing data value of temperature sensing and fire image of 0~255, and sensor output-value of 0~5,000. The operation time of a flame specimen within 500 m, 1000 m, and 1500 m from the test report specimen took 7 s, 26 s, and 62 s, respectively, and image creation was proven. A diagnosis of fire accident was designated to 3 steps: Caution/Alarm/Fire. Therefore, a series of process and the transmission of SNS were identified. A light bulb and fluorescent bulb were also tested for a false alarm test, but no false alarm occurred. The possibility that an unwanted alarm will be reduced was verified through a forecast of the fire progress or real-time estimation of a thermal image by the change in the image of a time-based flame and an analysis of the diffusion velocity.
Wireless communication technologies including vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) enable the development of more sophisticated and effective traffic information systems. This study presents a method to estimate vehicular travel times in a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) environment. A novel feature of the proposed method is estimating individual vehicle travel times through advanced on-board units in each vehicle, referred to as self-estimated travel time in this study. The method uses travel information including vehicle position and speed at each given time step transmitted through the V2V and V2I communications. Vehicle trajectory data obtained from the VISSIM simulator is used for evaluating the accuracy of estimated travel times. Relevant technical issues for successful field implementation are also discussed.
