  • In this paper, a Doppler radar for a localization of a human motion is demonstrated. In the system, we used a $8{\times}8$ phased array antenna using metamaterial phase shifters for easy and precise control of antenna beam pattern. Scanning area is a circular sector with an inscribed angle of $60^{\circ}$ and a diameter of 45m. This area is divided with 15 designated area and each area is scanned for 0.2 second. When there is a motion in a designated area, we are able to detect a frequency shift due to a Doppler effect. In this way it is possible to detect the location of motion. The experiment shows that 78% of position accuracy. The remaining 22% occurred the surroundings of the designated area.

  • This paper is concerned with a study on fracture strength of composites in an adhesive single lap joint. The tests were carried out on joint specimens made with hybrid stacked composites consisting of the polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the fracture properties adjacent to adhesive bonded joint of natural fiber reinforced composite specimens. From the results, natural fiber reinforced composites have lower tensile strength than the original polyester. But tensile-shear strength of natural fiber reinforced composites with bamboo layer far from adhesive bond is as high as that of the original polyester adhesive bonded joints. Spew filet at the end of the overlap reduced the stress concentration at the bonded area. Spew fillet and position of bamboo natural fiber layer have a peat effect on the tensile-shear strength of natural fiber reinforced composites including adhesive bonded joints.

  • The reduction of CO2 emissions has been a key target in the marine industry since the IMO's MEPC published its findings in 2009. Air lubrication method is one of the mature technologies for commercialization to reduce the frictional resistance and enhance fuel efficiency of ships. Since the air lubrication pattern varies according to the ship's standing position and injection flow rate, in order to effectively control the air lubrication system, it is necessary to be able to judge the air layer development state based on the information collected from the monitoring sensor. In this study, we performed the air lubrication ship simulation experiment to measure the void fraction and the frictional resistance. The void fraction was measured to confirm the behavior of the air. Through the measurement of the frictional resistance, the change in frictional resistance reduction rate from the injection point to the longitudinal direction of the ship was confirmed. Based on the measurement results, correlation analysis was performed on void fraction and frictional resistance reduction rate.

  • In this study, an optimization routine with genetic algorithms is coupled for the selection of free variables for the production of a control signal for the motion of wave board in the numerical wave tank. An excitation function for the controlling of the wave board is formulated on basis of amplitude modulation for the generation of nonlinear wave packets. The found variables by the optimization serve for the determination of wave board motion both with the computation and with the experiment. The breaking criterion of the water waves is implemented as boundary condition for the optimization procedure. With the analysis of the time registration on the local position in the wave tank the optimization routine is accomplished until the given design wave with defined surface elevation is found. Water surface elevation and associated fields of velocity and pressure are numerically computed.

  • Existent public key certificates provide authentication information through some information on user\`s public key. However, an attribute certificate which stores and manage user\`s attribute information, provides various privilege information such as position, privilege and role. In recent, international organizations establishes standards on attribute certificate, and the researches and developments on attribute certificate have been widely made. In addition it may be expected to be used many real application area requiring for authorization information as well as authentication information. Therefore, this paper considers background and standardization trends of attribute certificate and describes the profile and related techniques of attribute certificate currently established by IETF. In addition, it introduces and access control system using attribute certificate and specifies applications of attribute certificate.

  • This study proposes a procedure for designing a labyrinth seal that meets both leakage flow rate and rotordynamic performance criteria (effective damping, amplification factor, separation margin, logarithmic decrement, and vibration amplitude). The seal is modeled using a one control volume (1CV) bulk flow approach to predict the leakage flow rate and rotordynamic coefficients. The rotating shaft is modeled with the finite element (FE) method and is assumed to be supported by two linearized bearings. Geometry, material and operating conditions of the rotating shaft, and the supporting characteristics of the bearings were fixed. A single labyrinth seal is placed at the center of the rotor, and the linearized dynamic coefficients predicted by the seal numerical model are inserted as linear springs and dampers at the seal position. Seal designs that satisfy both leakage and rotordynamic performance are searched by modifying five seal design parameters using the multi-grid method. The five design parameters include pre-swirl ratio, number of teeth, tooth pitch, tooth height and tooth tip width. In total, 12500 seal models are examined and the optimal seal design is selected. Finally, normalization was performed to select the optimal labyrinth seal designs that satisfy the system performance requirements.

  • In the building construction, the steel-frame work occupies an important position in terms of structure, cost and quality. Especially in Japan, steel frames have traditionally been the main structure of many buildings. For steel-frame works in such positions, this paper investigates an existing steel fabricator to clarify the actual conditions of design decision making process and management method in steel production process. This study focuses on a steel fabricator (Company M in the following sentences), whose main market is Japan and which has facilities in Thailand, China, and Japan. Company M uses QR codes to control the production status of products, and exchanges all information between inside and outside the company via specialized departments in the form of documents. The authors have already analyzed the relationship between production lead time and defect rate based on actual project data at Architectural Institute of Japan in 2016. In 2019, we expressed the process from the confirmation of the design information of the current steel frame to the production by WBS, and clarified the relationship between the production lead time and steel frame product quality structurally. In this paper, the authors reoport the progress of the survey conducted so far, the positioning of the collected data, and the future survey policy.

  • The vestibular cortex is a distributed network of multisensory areas that plays a crucial role in balance, posture, and spatial orientation. The core region of the vestibular cortex is the parietoinsular vestibular cortex (PIVC), which is located at the junction between the posterior insula, parietal operculum, and retroinsular region. The PIVC is connected to other vestibular areas, the primary and secondary somatosensory cortices, and the premotor and posterior parietal cortices. It also sends projections to the vestibular nuclei in the brainstem. The PIVC is a multisensory region that integrates vestibular, visual, and somatosensory information to create a representation of head-in-space motion, which is used to control eye movements, posture, and balance. Other regions of the vestibular cortex include the primary somatosensory, posterior parietal, and frontal cortices. The primary somatosensory cortex is involved in processing information about touch and body position. The posterior parietal cortex is involved in integrating vestibular, visual, and somatosensory information to create a representation of spatial orientation. The frontal cortex is involved in controlling posture, and eye movements. The various methods used to stimulate the vestibular receptors in neuroimaging studies include caloric vestibular stimulation (CVS), galvanic vestibular stimulation (GVS), and auditory vestibular stimulation (AVS). CVS uses warm or cold water or air to stimulate the semicircular canals, GVS uses a weak electrical current to stimulate the vestibular nerve, and AVS uses high-intensity clicks or short tone bursts to stimulate the otolithic receptors.

  • In modern society, the incidence of various joint diseases such as degenerative arthritis is steadily increasing with the increase of the elderly population. For the effective treatment of these diseases, the demand for CPM medical devices that increase the range of motion of the joint is increasing, and if a patient is unable to perform exercise on his or her own, it plays a role in helping joint recovery through repetitive and continuous manual exercise to prevent joint stiffness, promote blood circulation, and improve tissue flexibility to shorten the recovery period after joint surgery to efficiently proceed with the rehabilitation process. Due to the uncertainty of the angle measurement method currently in use, it is difficult to accurately evaluate the patient's exercise amount required to improve the range of motion, which can negatively affect the reliability of CPM medical devices and the patient's willingness to rehabilitate. Therefore, a new technology using encoders and angle sensors is needed to overcome the problems arising from the method measured using only the existing Potentiometer.

  • In the past, many dentist were interested mainly in the mechanical aspects such as tooth preparation and retainer types for making dental restoration. But, these days, the concept of restorative treatment emphasizes the importarce of gnatic system and masticatory muscles in addition to oral cavity. So, the current considerations for the fixed prosthodontic treatment include the stabilization of temporomandibular joint and neuromuscualr system and the relationship of periodontal ligament and occlusion. To achieve the above objectives, occlusal splint has been used as one of the mouth preparations for restorative treatment. The objectives of occlusal splint are as follows; 1. To use as preliminary application for periodontal-occlusal treatment 2. To provide proper vertical dimension 3. To control abnormal habits and parafunction 4. To treat the temporomandibular disease and myofascial pain 5. To establish the new therapeutic position In some cases, the patients had improper vertical dimension and occlusal interferences caused by prostheses reconstucted using centric relation recorded without considering the health of TMJ and manticatory muscle. And these prosthesis act as primary source that cause pathologic phenomenon in periodontal ligament, muscles and TMJ. Physiologically, in order to make the treatment occlusion guided by proper centric relation method, the method should be guided after the use of occlusal splint for some period. The main objective of prosthetic treatment is to maintain the function and health of stomatognathic system. So, one of the most important things that have to be performed by clinicians is a clinical ability to do the correct diagnosis and treatment planning based on the stomatognatic function and occlusion.
