  • Visual effects are important cues for providing occupant s with virtual reality in a vehicle simulator which imitates real driving. The viewpoint of an occupant is sensitively dependent upon the occupant´s posture, therefore, the total body motion must be considered in a graphic simulator. A real time simulation is required for the dynamic analysis of complex human body motion. This study attempts to apply a neural network to the motion analysis in various driving situations. A full car of medium-sized vehicles was selected and modeled, and then analyzed using ADAMS in such driving conditions as bump-pass and acceleration. A multibody system analysis software, MADYMO, was used in the motion analysis of an adult male dummy in the seated position.   • By setting a refractor with a certain angle against the optical axis of the CCD camera lens, the image of a measuring point recorded on the image plane is displaced by the corresponding amounts related to the distance between the camera and the measuring point. When the refractor that keeps the angle against the optical axis is rotated physically at high speed during the exposure of the camera, the image of a measuring point draws an annular streak. Since the size of the annular streak is inversely proportional to the distance between the camera and the measuring point, the 3D position of the measuring point can be obtained by processing the streak.   • A leak detection method for diagnosis of the leak position in a pipeline was developed using an estimation theory with the assumption that the measured flow rates and pressures are stochastic processes. A notch filter was designed using power spectral density analysis of measurements to reduce the effects of disturbances. The noise model dimension was determined by hypothesis testing and then recursive extended least square method was applied to estimate the leak position in real time. The proposed method was applied to an experimental system for evaluation of its performance.

  • This study proposes an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS)-based rotor position controller for brushless direct current (BLDC) motors to improve the control performance of the drive under transient and steady-state conditions. The dynamic response of a BLDC motor to the proposed ANFIS controller is considered as standard reference input. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is compared with that of the proportional integral derivative (PID) controller and fuzzy PID controller. The proposed controller solves the problem of nonlinearities and uncertainties caused by the reference input changes of BLDC motors and guarantees a fast and accurate dynamic response with an outstanding steady-state performance. Furthermore, the ANFIS controller provides low torque ripples and high starting torque. The detailed study includes a MATLAB-based simulation and an experimental prototype to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed topology.

  • Precision stage is essential device for semiconductor equipments, fiber optic assembly systems and micro machines. In this paper, we develop a piezo-electric inchworm type actuator for long stroke ultra precision linear stages, and implement a controller to interface with commercial motion controllers. It provides fast implementation of precise position control system substituting for rotary motor. In the future, using a laser interferometer as a position sensor, we plan to implement a nano meter precision stage.

  • A Class of fuzzy controller based on the variable structure system(VSS) technique in which different structures of controllers are fuzzily switched according to the switching rules in proppsed. The structure of proposed controllers was motivated by the characteristics of position type fuzzy controller and velocity type fuzzy controller ; the former generally gives good performance in transient perod and the latter are capable of reducing steady state error of response. To show the usefulness of the proposed controller, it is applied to several systems that is difficult to stabilize or difficult to get satisfactory responsed by conventional fuzzy controllers.

  • Based on the MacDonald's analytic model for the diffracted sound field of a semi-infinite noise barrier, computer simulations were performed for various positions of error microphones for an active noise barrier system. The simulation process also included the effects of floor reflections on both sides of the barrier. The results were also compared with Niu's simulation results and showed a straight line arrangement of sensors and actuators, in the order of primary source, secondary source and error microphone is better than over the top arrangement of the error microphones.

  • ORVR filler neck check valve, which is one of the essential components of the vapor fuel control system, should diminish the evaporation by maintaining laminar fluid flow on refueling process. This study presents numerical. results of pressure and velocity distributions of the fluid flow in a ORVR filler neck check valve on refueling process. CFD-ACE+ has been employed for numerical analysis based on the information of experimental results of valve position as a function of inlet flow rate. No abrupt pressure change, which may causes vaporization of fuel, has been confirmed to take place on the concave surface of the valve spool. However, it is clear that some possibility exist at the mid-position of surface of valve spool and downstream according to the opening of valve.
