Thirteen dogs were diagnosed as congenital extrahepatic single PSS by intraoperative mesenteric portovenography or computed tomographic examination, repair surgery was performed by using an ameroid constrictor. Hepatic size was measured from the right lateral view using liver length/T11 length ratio. This measurement was performed on follow-up check of PSS ligation patients. Hepatic size parameter of pre-operative PSS patients is $4.13{\pm}0.13$ (range, 3.11-4.83). After surgery, hepatic size parameter of post-operative PSS patients is $4.79{\pm}0.19$ (range, 3.78- 5.93). Although follow-up periods varied 2 and 26 weeks, all patients showed increased liver size compared to that on pre-operative radiographs (P < 0.01). The increase rate was 1.01-1.46 times than those of preoperative radiographs. But in 5 patients, post hepatic liver size was small compared to the others, which showed low increase rate of body weight, total protein, albumin, and glucose level. It was thought that small value of hepatic size parameter was due to delay of hepatic regeneration. In conclusion, radiographic hepatic size parameter of pre- and post-operative patients is considered an effective evaluation for restoring after PSS surgery.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the azygos vein to aorta diameter ratio (AV/AO ratio) in healthy dogs and dogs with diseases that may cause azygos vein dilation. The normal groups included eleven healthy beagle dogs and eleven small breed dogs. The abnormal group included 43 dogs that had diseases with high right atrial pressure (RA group), obstruction of cranial or caudal vena cava (CVC group) and porto-azygos shunt group (PSS group). The diameter of AV and AO were measured at three sites on thoracic CT images; the level of the cranial endplate of 12^th thoracic vertebra (TV level), the tracheal bifurcation (TB level) and the insertion to the cranial vena cava (CrVC level). The AV/AO ratio at the CrVC level had significantly higher values than those at the TV and TB levels in the normal groups. The AV/AO ratios of TV and TB levels in the CVC group and the values at all measurement sites of the PSS group were significantly higher than the normal groups. AV/AO ratio will be a useful factor for the evaluation of various clinical conditions that change the AV diameter with respect independent to the body weight in dogs.

십이지장 정맥류는 간경화증에 의한 문맥압 고혈압 환자에서 발생할 수 있으며, 치명적인 심한 상부 위장관 출혈을 일으킬 수 있으나 아직까지 명확한 치료 지침이 정립되어 있지는 않다. 일차적으로 내시경으로 치료를 시도하고 지혈 실패 시 목정맥경유간속문맥전신순환연결술, 풍선 혹은 혈관 마개를 이용한 역행성 경정맥 폐색술, 피부간경유 폐색술 등과 같은 중재적 치료를 고려할 수 있다. 저자들은 내시경적 치료에 실패한 십이지장 정맥류 출혈 환자에게 저하된 간 기능과 해부학적인 구조의 제한으로 인해 코일을 이용한 역행성 경정맥 폐색술을 시행하여 성공적으로 치료한 1예를 경험하였기에 이를 보고하고자 한다.

문맥고혈압에 동반된 폐고혈압은 비교적 드문 질환으로 1951년 Mantz와 Craig가 처음 보고한 후 꾸준히 보고되고 있으나 국내엔 아직 보고된 바가 없다. 최근 간경변증으로 인한 복수와 호흡곤란을 주소로 내원한 49세 여자 환자에서 폐고혈압이 동반되어 있었던 증례를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.
