  • In this paper, we have proposed a new method to extract the fetal ECG from a pregnant woman's abdominal signal using least square acceleration (LSA) filter and adaptive impulse correlation (AIC) filter. To evaluate the performance, the proposed method and other fetal ECG extraction techniques were processed using the real ECG data and then the results were compared. According to comparative results, the proposed method is powerful and successful for extracting the fetal ECG. It was able to separate perfectly even though the fetal beats overlap with the QRS wave of the maternal beats and to extract fetal ECG using any single-channel abdominal signal measured from pregnant woman's abdominal surface. Also, it could be implemented easily by fast computation time and simple structure. It is sure that our method could be useful for portable fetal monitoring system.

  • As the proportion of non-contact telemedicine increases and the number of electrocardiogram (ECG) data measured using portable ECG monitors increases, the demand for automatic algorithms that can precisely analyze vast amounts of ECG is increasing. Since the P, QRS, and T waves of the ECG have different shapes depending on the location of electrodes or individual characteristics and often have similar frequency components or amplitudes, it is difficult to distinguish P, QRS and T waves and measure each parameter. In order to measure the widths, intervals and areas of P, QRS, and T waves, a new algorithm that recognizes the start and end points of each wave and automatically measures the time differences and amplitudes between each point is required. In this study, the start and end points of the P, QRS, and T waves were measured using six Deep Neural Networks (DNN) that recognize the start and end points of each wave. Then, by synthesizing the results of all DNNs, 12 parameters for ECG characteristics for each heartbeat were obtained. In the ECG waveform of 10 subjects provided by Physionet, 12 parameters were measured for each of 660 heartbeats, and the 12 parameters measured for each heartbeat well represented the characteristics of the ECG, so it was possible to distinguish them from other subjects' parameters. When the ECG data of 10 subjects were combined into one file and analyzed with the suggested algorithm, 10 types of ECG waveform were observed, and two types of ECG waveform were simultaneously observed in 5 subjects, however, it was not observed that one person had more than two types.

  • Wearable physiological signal monitoring systems are regarded as an important sensing unit platforms in ubiquitous/mobile healthcare application. In this paper, we suggested the modified bipolar electrodes implemented on the portable heart activity monitoring system, which minimized the distance of electrodes formed on a attachable pad. The proposed electrode configuration is useful in mobile measurement environments, but has a disadvantage of reduced amplitude of the heart action potential. In order to overcome the shortcoming of the suggested electrode configuration, we implemented the amplifying circuit to increase the signal-gain and decrease the artifacts. For evaluations, we analyzed the specificity of measured cardiography using the proposed electrodes through the comparing of heart activity monitoring system with standard clinical ECG(lead2) by pearson correlation coefficients. The result showed that the average correlation coefficient is $0.903{\pm}0.036,\;0.873{\pm}0.072$ at V3, V4 chest lead position, respectively. Thus, the modified bipolar electrode is quite suitable to monitor the electrical activity of the heart in the situation of the mobile environment, and could be considered having high similarity with standard clinical ECG.

  • This paper proposes a portable electrocardiograph and smart device-based heart health monitoring and risk notification system. The proposed system consists of a portable electrocardiograph and a smart device for a system user, and a web-based monitoring system for observers. This system can improve the convenience and efficiency of measurement by using a light-weight portable electrocardiograph and a smart device. In addition, any authorized person such as caregiver or family member who is not related to medical institution can monitor users'heart health in real-time using the web-based monitoring system. Therefore, a user and authorized remote observers can efficiently monitor and manage user's heart health in daily-life even without any medical institution's help, and can preemptively deal with any possible dangerous situations, such as degeneration of a cardiac disorder and sudden cardiac death.

  • In this study, a portable detection system was developed that can detect harmful gas and signals simultaneously in an enclosed space of industrial sites and underground facilities. The developed system is a sensor module for gas detection, a patch type 1 channel small ECG sensor, a module for three-axial acceleration detection sensor, and a system for statistics. In order to verify the performance of the system modules, the digital resolution, signal frequency, output voltage, and ultra-small modules were evaluated. As a result of the performance of the developed system, the digital resolution was 300 (rps) and the signal amplification gain was 500 dB or more, and the ECG module was manufactured with $50mm{\times}10mm{\times}10mm$ to increase patch utilization. It is believed that the product of this research will be valuable if it is used as an IoT-based management system for real-time monitoring of industrial workers.

  • A new method for estimating and eliminating electrocardiogram (ECG) artifacts from single channel scalp electroencephalogram (EEG) is proposed. The proposed method consists of emphasis of QRS complex from EEG using least squares acceleration (LSA) filter, generation of synchronized pulse with R-peak and ECG artifacts estimation and elimination using adaptive filter. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated using simulated and real EEG recordings, we found that the ECG artifacts were successfully estimated and eliminated in comparison with the conventional multi-channel techniques, which are independent component analysis (ICA) and ensemble average (EA) method. In conclusion, we can conclude that the proposed method is useful for the detecting and eliminating the ECG artifacts from single channel EEG and simple to use for ambulatory/portable EEG monitoring system.

  • Wearable ECG monitoring is regarded as one of the most essential part in the ubiquitous healthcare environment and subsequently day-life monitoring of a heart condition has been pursued especially for the elder people. However, there are many problems to accomplish this task such as; i) implementation of long-term monitoring device, ii) development of non-irritating electrode on skin and iii) stable signal acquisition. With these aims, we have focused on implementing a non-irritating electrode with an endurable monitoring device for day-life. To accomplish our tasks, we basically developed four different types of textile electrodes that are adapted by both shape and the composed material; flat or convex shape and Ag-conductive paste material or not. It turns out to be that a convex shape and Ag-paste textile electrode has the best performance in terms of both signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and Impedance/Phase characteristics. Furthermore, ECG amplifier (35 ${\times}$ 35 mm) has developed to resolve the ECG signal and transfer the signal to desktop computing device or portable one by RF serial communication.

  • Today Human Personal Trainers are becoming very famous in this health conscious world. They teach user to achieve fitness goals in managed way. Due to their high fee and tight schedule they are unavailable to mass number of people. Another solution to this problem is to develop digital personal trainer portable instrument that may replace human personal trainers. We developed a portable digital exercise trainer device - BIOFIT that manages, monitors and records the user's physical status and workout during exercise session. It guides the user to exercise efficiently for specific fitness goal. It keeps the full exercise program i.e. exercises start date and time, duration, mode, control parameter, intensity in its memory which helps the user in managing his exercise. Exercise program can be downloaded from the internet. During exercise it continuously monitors the user's physiological parameters: heart rate, number of steps walked, and energy consumed. If these parameters do not range within prescribed target zone, the BIOFIT will alarm the user as a feedback to control exercise. The BIOFIT displays these parameters on graphic LCD. During exercise it continuously records the heart rate and number of steps walked every 10 seconds along with exercise date and time. This stored information can be used as treatment for the user by an exercise expert. Real-time ECG monitoring can be viewed wirelessly (RF Communication) on a remote PC.
