In general, lots of containers including various dangerous materials are transported to the port located in big cities such as Busan where massive residents live. Thus, it's really important how to make the emergency response for the leak accidents of dangerous materials and evaluate the direct or indirect damages to adjacent areas. In this study, in order to make reasonable emergency plans, CA (Consequence Analysis) is employed after selecting a key hazardous and noxious material, hydrogen fluroide. This material accounts for the third largest portion of cargo volume among all dangerous materials and can cause a huge damage in case of leakages. As a case study, Busan North port is selected as a test port since the portion of dangerous materials is higher than that of other ports in Busan. It is assumed that 1 ton of hydrogen fluoride is spilled at Busan North port. CA is performed to assess the impact of this accident. Throughout CA, the ERPG-2 range of a leak accident can be evaluated and this result can be used for decision making tools for mitigating the impact of a leak accident. To mitigate the damage of this accident, suitable a protective equipment and resident evacuation procedures should be prepared. Finally, this study can provide a systematic approach to make the emergency plan for reducing economical and personal losses.

This study evaluated the results of a questionnaire survey taken by visitors and residents likely to be directly or indirectly affected by a proposed fishing village and port development in the Busan region. The questionnaire focused on various potential effects that the development would have on the local community and on ways to improve the development process, as well as on the priorities of such investment and the direction the development should take. Our goal was to determine the sentiments of the local citizenry regarding the proposed fishing village and port development in the Busan region.

This study concerns the importance of workforce on job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and customer orientation through the change of global logistics industry and the operational condition of Busan port and Busan new port container terminals such as below. The purpose of this study is to firstly, that understand the current facilities and situation of container terminals in Busan port and Busan new port, and its changing environment of port industry. Secondly, provide basic information through the seeking whether the concept of importance of workforce is able to apply into container terminals. Thirdly, establish the theoretical system through the literature consideration on workforce on job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and customer orientation in container terminals. Finally, draw useful suggestions for managing container terminals through the structural relationship among variables, which are workforce on job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and customer orientation in container terminals.

Due to the continuous increasement of the container cargoes, each container port market has been growing as well. Moreover, the competition among container terminal operators located in the same port is also growing in order to attract more container cargoes. This paper looked into the market structures, market conducts and market performances of container ports in Busan and Shanghai. The index which has been most widely used to measure market structure, the Hirschman-Herfindahl Index (HHI), is computed by squaring each supplier's market share, then adding the squared shares. This paper estimated the market performance as profitability (PCM, ROA), growth (total TEU, rate of the increasement of TEU) and examined the effects of the HHI on the profitability and growth in a container terminal operators in Korea and China. The major findings of this study is that the market structure has effects on market performance in Busan port (total TEU) and Shanghai port (PCM, ROA and total TEU). As a result of analysing this study, market structure has an effect on market performance in Busan and Shanghai port, but the power of influence can be changed by market concentration index and various market conduct of companies.

The Korean government establishes a strategy to develop the Busan New Port as a world ranking two transit-oriented port. This paper aims at presenting an efficient inter-terminal transport (ITT) system in the Busan New Port as a method of achieving the government strategy. First, it presents results of long term forecast for the inter-terminal transportation volume in the port. Second, it proposes two systems to treat ITT in the port; Double stack Multiple Trailer System (DMTS) and Rail-based transportation system. The implementation methods in the port are introduced in detail for the both systems, and the required number of the systems and costs are calculated for implementation of both the systems. B/C for DMTS is analyzed to 3.7, moreover unit-fare per [$ton{\cdot}km$] can is lowered to 67% against current fare. DMTS is shown to highly potential for efficient ITT in the port.

The Busan New Port and its hinterland have not operated smoothly due to the complicated laws and various related organizations. Thus, many projects involving the port are not matched with its purpose of establishment. In particular, a large-scale apartment complex, which was constructed without a negotiation among the related organizations, is disturbing the port's logistics function. Also, the construction and management of every traffic facilities are conducted by various organizations due to the functions for the facilities are dispersed among them, which has given rise to chaos and responsibility-shifting. As a result, worries about the friction among the organizations and the loss of function of the port hinterland exist. This paper analyzes the problems of inter-governmental functional distributions in the construction and management of the port hinterland of the Busan New Port based on the principles (theories) of functional distribution. In addition, this paper proposes improvements for the functional distribution. The results of the analysis indicated that the functions for housing and traffic facilities were duplicated and dispersed among organizations, resulting in an unclear division of responsibilities. Finally, the paper proposed solutions for the problems: the institutionalization of an administrative conference system among related organizations, using an integrated administration for a wide area (contracting-out, association among local governments), and establishing a special-purpose local government (association among local governments, BPA).

This study aims to share a methodology for locality reproduction by concretely explaining the theoretical model, procedure, and practice of constructing the Port of Busan Image Digital Archive, based on the photographic and postcard images of the Port of Busan, the representative place of Busan. Among the open-source record management programs, Omeka was chosen in implementing the digital archive because of its suitability for image exhibition. After establishing the principles for archive implementation in accordance with the purpose of the archive, a basic investigation was conducted for the record collection. With the consent of the individuals and institutions that possess the related records on the Port of Busan, such as the National Archives of Korea, the Busan Museum, and the City of Busan, original image artifacts were thus collected. The collected artifacts were then described using the Dublin Core metadata and categorized by time period. The Port of Busan was classified through four distinctive spatial characteristics (transportation, historic, industrial, and living spaces). A total of 11 themes for the exhibition was then suggested. The Busan-Shimonoseki Ferry Boat was chosen as an example exhibition of transportation space.

This study was conducted to investigate the benthic condition around Busan Port by analysing spatio-temporal distribution pattern of polychaete community and some benthic environmental factors. Field survey was seasonally carried out at 15 stations covering in and outside of Busan Port from February to December, 2007. Water temperature, salinity and the type of surface sediment showed little changes among the stations, but factors related to organic enrichment such as TOC, AVS, coprostanol showed an obvious contrast, especially between in and outside of Busan Port. A total of96 species occurred and mean density was 1,814 ind./$m^2$. Species richness was higher at outer port than inner port, but density was higher at inner port. Dominant species were Aphelochaeta monilaris, Magelona japonica, Pseudopolydora paucibranchiata, etc. and many of them were typical species of organically enriched area. From the multivariate analyses, the whole study area was composed of two distinct polychaete communities located at the inside and outside of the port, and seasonal changes didn't have any influential effects on the structure. Coprostanol and AVS, indicators of organically enriched condition, well explained the community structures of polychaete worms in the vicinity of Busan Port. In this context, the innermost area of North Harbor was in a highly enriched state.

The aim of this study is to identify the difference of the customer satisfaction before and after establishment of Busan Port Authority with focus on container terminals in Busan Port. As a result, the customer satisfaction varies according to customer types, and it has been changed followed by container port environment. Therefore suitable strategies have to establish, i.e. berth number for large shipping company, connectivity for feeder company, and activity of customer attraction for terminal operating company.

With the removal of underwater obstacles in the Busan New Port, the water depth of the pier has been secured up to 17m, and the port authority is constantly responding to the trend of container vessels becoming larger. Also, in 2020, 24,000TEU class container ships are entering to the port, and it is planned to secure the depth in the port to 23 m later in line with this trend. Mega container ships must check in advance the factors to be considered depending on the situation at the time, and for this, it is judged that information sharing among stakeholders is necessary. In this paper, to understand the effect of the corresponding route because of the mega container ships, a transit safety evaluation was conducted based on statistical data on ship entry and departure and maneuver characteristics of corresponding ships. The result showed that the transit of the mega container ships has increased up to 8.4% comparing to the risk of 4,000TEU class container ships. Additionally, safety measures such as minimum safety depth and tug operation plans were presented by gathering opinions on operational characteristics from the perspective of pilotage for safe transit in the Busan New Port area. Through this, it is considered that it will be possible to contribute to the prevention of accidents when entering and leaving the Busan New Port.
