  • As the world has had a high recognition of security since 9/11 attacks in 2001, many countries and international organizations around the world are making strenuous efforts in establishing stronger security, centering on areas with high possibility of terrorist attacks. In particular, harbor facilities where a great deal of trade take place between countries, have high possibilities of becoming the objects of terrorist attacks and also of becoming places of trading objects and illegal items which might be leveraged for terror attacks. In this study, I have explained the current status of the harbor entrance system through existing documents, interviews and field trips to harbors and have also introduced improvement measures using RFID technology from the viewpoint of BP(Business Process). I expect that this study will be used as basic materials because I have studied the number of people entering harbors and working procedures for vehicle entrance, which have not been studied so far and also laid out various factors to be considered to introduce RFID technology.

A Study on Container Monitoring Loaded into the Hold in Maritime Logistics (해상운송 환경에서 IP-RFID 기술을 이용한 선박 홀드에 적재된 컨테이너 상태 모니터링에 관한 연구)

  • The recent increase of fresh farm products, hazardous cargos, and high-priced goods in marine transportation has caused an increased demand of cargo owners and shipping companies with regard to the monitoring of the location and state of cargo. To meet this increase, numerous technologies are being studied for the monitoring of the cargo state. Cargo containers on a ship are loaded on a ship's deck and in a ship's hold, which is located under the deck. However, Since the developed technologies mostly transfer the container status information that collected by mobile communication, it costs a lot to install communication infrastructure on ship. And the ship's hold is completely sealed with a cover, and communication with the reader positioned at the ship's bridge is difficult. Therefore, most existing studies on container monitoring on ships have focused on the monitoring of containers loaded on a ship's deck. Accordingly, this study suggested system configuration for the monitoring of containers in a ship's hold using IP-RFID technology. The suggested system configuration was tested on an actual ship under navigation, and the test results are given in this study. The test results verified that the monitoring of containers in a ship's hold using IP-RFID technology is effective.

  • With current economic advancements and increasing demand for well-being, diverse leisure cultures have developed. The geographic feature of being surrounded in 3 sides by water has resulted in the sustained growth of the marine leisure market. But the increased market and users has not resulted in the systematic management of sailing safety and equipment. Marine leisure activities occur on water, so the damage from collisions and distress calls are greater than land based leisure activities. And marine leisure equipment is very expensive, requiring systematic management. This research proposes an information system using a new IP-RFID technique to manage the safety of marine leisure users and equipment management.

  • The opening of High-speed Rail provides convenience to move a long distance quickly, and the passengers of high-speed railway have been steadily increasing each year. Since the high-speed rail is far more expensive than other transportation, providing high quality service over just the high speed is required. Accordingly, much effort is made to improve service quality. However these services have been focused on general passengers so we should introduce a new service system to meet personal preferences of passengers. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce integrated railway service systems to provide service which follows the individual needs of passengers and is based on RFIDs (Radio Frequency Identification).

  • 미국 환경단체가 발표한 자료에 따르면, 항만이 대기오염의 주범으로 알려진 자동차나 발전소보다 더 많은 오염물질을 배출하고 있으며, 특히 컨테이너트럭과 하역장비에서 많은 오염물질을 배출하는 것으로 확인되었다. 세계 5위의 컨테이너 물동량을 처리하는 부산항을 비롯하여 많은 항만을 보유하고 있는 우리나라도 적극적으로 항만에서 배출하는 온실가스를 감축하기 위한 노력이 필요하다. 이를 해결하기 위해서 본 연구에서는 IP-RFID라는 새로운 기술을 이용하여 항만 터미널내의 물류장비(컨테이너 트럭, 하역장비 등)들의 탄소배출량을 실시간으로 관리할 수 있는 모니터링시스템을 개발하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 개발하는 모니터링시스템은 개별 물류장비의 탄소량을 실시간으로 측정하여 IP통신을 통해 다양한 사용자에게 직접 정보를 전달할 수 있는 IP-Tag를 부착하여, 개별 물류장비별 탄소배출량을 적극적으로 관리할 수 있는 시스템이다. 이 시스템을 통해 물류장비별로 탄소배출량 관리가 가능해지고 운전자도 실시간으로 장비의 탄소배출량을 확인할 수 있기 때문에, 항만의 탄소배출량을 감축할 수 있을 것이다.

A Study on 3D RTLS at Port Container Yards Using the Extended Kalman Filter

  • The main purpose of this paper is to manage the container property effectively at the container yard by applying the RTLS technology to the field of port logistics. Yet, many kinds of noises happen to be inputted with the distance value(between the reader and the tag) which is to be inputted into the location identification algorithm, which makes the distance value jumped due to the system noise of the ultrasonic sensor module and the measurement noise. The Kalman Filter is widely used to prevent this jump occurrence; the noises are eliminated by using the EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) while considering that the distance information of the ultrasonic sensor is non-linear. Also, the 3D RTLS system at the port container yard suggested in this research is designed not to be interrupted for its ultrasonic transmission by positioning the antenna at the front of each sector of the container where the active tags are installed. We positioned the readers, which function as antennas for location identification, to four places randomly in the absolute coordinate and let the positions of the active tags identified by using the distance data delivered from the active tags. For the location identification algorithm used in this paper, the triangulation measurement that is most used in general is applied and newly reorganized to calculate the position of the container. In the first experiment, we dealt with the error resulting in the angle and the distance of the ultrasonic sensor module, which is the most important in the hardware performance; in the second, we evaluated the performance of the location identification algorithm, which is the most important in the software performance, and tested the noise cancellation effects for the EKF. According to the experiment result, the ultrasonic sensor showed an average of 3 to 5cm error up to $45^{\circ}$ in case of $60^{\circ}$ or more, non-reliable linear distances were obtained. In addition, the evaluation of the algorithm performance showed an average of $4^{\circ}{\sim}5^{\circ}$ error due to the error of the linear distance-this error is negligible for most container location identifications. Lastly, the experiment results of noise cancellation and jump preservation by using the EKF showed that noises were removed in the distance information which was entered from the input of the ultrasonic sensor and as a result, only signal was extracted; thus, jumps were able to be removed and the exact distance information between the ultrasonic sensors could be obtained.
