Large-size ceramic/metal bulk FGMs have been fabricated on a recently developed and the world's largest Spark Plasma Sintering(SPS) systems, As a part of the development program for practical production processes and machines for FGMs by SPS, the processes, mechanical properties, dimensional size and shape effects, and production machine systems were investigated. In the past, $ZrO_{2}$/TiAI, $ZrO_{2}$/Ni, $Al_{2}O_{3}$/Ti, WC/Co, WC/Co/Steel, A1/P, Polymide, Cu/Polymide, nano-composites, porous and other combinations of bulk FGMs have already been processed using SPS. However, most of the specimen sizes were small, in a range of 20 to 30mm in diameter. Recently disk-shape sintered compacts with diameters of 100 and 150 mm, and thickness of approximately 15 and 17 mm, $ZrO_{2}$(3Y)/ stainless steel FGMs were homogenous consolidated in a shorter sintering time, while maintaining high quality and repeatability by utilizing a temperature gradient sintering method. The SPS heating up and holding time totaled less than one hour. Therefore, the SPS process in expected to find increased use in the fabrication of large-size FGMs as a new industrial processing technology. This paper introduces SPS systems, the processing principles, features and the characteristies of ceramic/metal bulk FGM.

In this work, a new analytical approach using a theory of a high order hyperbolic shear deformation theory (HSDT) has been developed to study the free vibration of plates of functionally graduated material (FGM). This theory takes into account the effect of stretching the thickness. In contrast to other conventional shear deformation theories, the present work includes a new displacement field that introduces indeterminate integral variables. During the manufacturing process of these plates defects can appear as porosity. The latter can question and modify the global behavior of such plates. The materials constituting the plate are assumed to be gradually variable in the direction of height according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The motion equations are derived by the Hamilton principle. Analytical solutions for free vibration analysis are obtained for simply supported plates. The effects of stretching, the porosity parameter, the power law index and the length / thickness ratio on the fundamental frequencies of the FGM plates are studied in detail.
The effect of porosity on the thermo-mechanical behavior of simply supported functionally graded plate reposed on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation is investigated analytically in the present paper using new refined hyperbolic shear deformation plate theory. Both even and uneven distribution of porosity are taken into account and the effective properties of FG plates with porosity are defined by theoretical formula with an additional term of porosity. The present formulation is based on a refined higher order shear deformation theory, which is based on four variables and it still accounts for parabolic distribution of the transverse shearing strains and stresses through the thickness of the FG plate and takes into account the various distribution shape of porosity. The elastic foundation is described by the Winkler-Pasternak model. Anew modified power-law formulation is used to describe the material properties of FGM plates in the thickness direction. The closed form solutions are obtained by using Navier technique. The present results are verified in comparison with the published ones in the literature. The results show that the dimensionless and stresses are affected by the porosity volume fraction, constituent volume fraction, and thermal load.
3Y-TZP/SUS316 Functionally Graded Material (FGM) was fabricated by slip casting method. Alumina mold was used to overcome problems of gypsum mold in slip casting process, and the optimal dispersion con-ditions of 3Y-TZP/SUS316 binary slurries was determined using electrokinetic sonic amplitude and a viscometer, and observing sedimentation behavior. The properties of the specimens casted by gypsum mold and alumina mold were compared in terms of changes in shrinkage rate, drying and sintering conditions, and microstructure. It was found that the specimens obtaine from the alumina mold showed a clean surface, easier thickness control of each layer, and higher productivity. Especially, no degradation was observed in the SUS316 prepared using alumina mold. Thus it is desirable to use porous alumina mold rather than gyp-sum mold for the slip casting of 3Y-TZP/SUS316-FGM.
In this work, a high order hyperbolic shear deformation theory with four variables is presented to study the vibratory behavior of functionally graduated plates. The field of displacement of the theory used in this work is introduced indeterminate integral variables. In addition, the effect of porosity is studied. It is assumed that the material characteristics of the porous FGM plate, varies continuously in the direction of thickness as a function of the power law model in terms of volume fractions of constituents taken into account the homogeneous distribution of porosity. The equations of motion are obtained using the principle of virtual work. An analytical solution of the Navier type for free vibration analysis is obtained for a FGM plate for simply supported boundary conditions. A comparison of the results obtained with those of the literature is made to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the present theory. It can be concluded from his results that the current theory is not only accurate but also simple for the presentation of the response of free vibration and the effect of porosity on the latter.
In this paper, buckling and free vibration of imperfect, functionally graded beams, including porosities, are investigated, using a higher order shear strain theory. Due to defects during the manufacturing process, micro porosities may appear in the material, hence the appearance of this imperfection in the structure. The material properties of the beams are assumed to vary regularly, with power and sigmoid law, in the direction of thickness. A novel porosity distribution affecting the functionally graded volume fraction is presented. For the compact formulation used for cementite-based materials and already used in P-FGM, we have adapted it for the distribution of S-FGM. The equations of motion in the FG beam are derived using Hamilton's principle. The boundary conditions for beam FG are assumed to be simply supported. Navier's solution is used to obtain the closed form solutions of the FG beam. The numerical results of this work are compared with those of other published research to verify accuracy and reliability. The comparisons of different shear shape functions, the influence of porosity, thickness and inhomogeneity parameters on buckling and free vibration of the FG beam are all discussed. It is established that the present work is more precise than certain theories developed previously.
In this work, the dynamic response of functionally graded beams on variable elastic foundations is studied using a novel higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). Unlike the conventional HSDT, the present one has a new displacement field which introduces undetermined integral variables. The FG beams were assumed to be supported on Winkler-Pasternak type foundations in which the Winkler modulus is supposed to be variable in the length of the beam. The variable rigidity of the elastic foundation is assumed to be linear, parabolic and sinusoidal along the length of the beam. The material properties of the FG porous beam vary according to a power law distribution in terms of the volume fraction of the constituents. The equations of motion are determined using the virtual working principle. For the analytical solution, Navier method is used to solve the governing equations for simply supported porous FG beams. Numerical results of the present theory for the free vibration of FG beams resting on elastic foundations are presented and compared to existing solutions in the literature. A parametric study will be detailed to investigate the effects of several parameters such as gradient index, thickness ratio, porosity factor and foundation parameters on the frequency response of porous FG beams.

The critical buckling loads and buckling modes of bi-directional functionally graded porous unified higher order shear plate with elastic foundation are investigated. A mathematical model based on neutral axis rather than midplane is developed in comprehensive way for the first time in this article. The material constituents form ceramic and metal are graded through thickness and axial direction by the power function distribution. The voids and cavities inside the material are proposed by three different porosity models through the thickness of plate. The constitutive parameters and force resultants are evaluated relative to the neutral axis. Unified higher order shear plate theories are used to satisfy the zero-shear strain/stress at the top and bottom surfaces. The governing equilibrium equations of bi-directional functionally graded porous unified plate (BDFGPUP) are derived by Hamilton's principle. The equilibrium equations in the form of coupled variable coefficients partial differential equations is solved by using numerical differential integral quadrature method (DIQM). The validation of the present model is presented and compared with previous works for bucking. Deviation in buckling loads for both mid-plane and neutral plane are developed and discussed. The numerical results prove that the shear functions, distribution indices, boundary conditions, elastic foundation and porosity type have significant influence on buckling stability of BDFGPUP. The current mathematical model may be used in design and analysis of BDFGPU used in nuclear, mechanical, aerospace, and naval application.
This work treats the axisymmetric buckling of functionally graded (FG) porous annular/circular nanoplates based on modified couple stress theory (MCST). The nanoplate is located at the elastic medium which is simulated by Kerr foundation with two spring and one shear layer. The material properties of the porous FG nanostructure are assumed to vary through the nanoplate thickness based on power-law rule. Based on two variables refined plate theory, the governing equations are derived by utilizing Hamilton's principle. Applying generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM), the buckling load of the annular/circular nanoplates is obtained for different boundary conditions. The influences of different involved parameters such as boundary conditions, Kerr medium, material length scale parameter, geometrical parameters of the nanoplate, FG power index and porosity are demonstrated on the nonlinear buckling load of the annular/circular nanoplates. The results indicate that with increasing the porosity of the nanoplate, the nonlinear buckling load is decreased. In addition, with increasing the material length scale parameter to thickness ratio, the effect of spring constant of Kerr foundation on the buckling load becomes more prominent. The present results are compared with those available in the literature to validate the accuracy and reliability. A good agreement is observed between the two sets of the results.
On the basis of nonlocal strain gradient theory, considering the material properties of porous FGM changing with thickness and the influence of moment of inertia, the wave equation of FG nano circular plate is derived by using the first-order shear deformation plate theory, by introducing dimensionless parameters, we transform the equations into dimensionless wave equations, and the dispersion relations of bending wave, shear wave and longitudinal wave are obtained by Laplace and Hankel integral transformation method. The influence of nonlocal parameter, porosity volume fraction, strain gradient parameters and power law index on the propagation characteristics of bending wave, shear wave and longitudinal wave in FG nano circular plate.
