  • A process control system has been developed for measurement and characterization of the nanofiber web qualities. The nano-fiber information system (NAFIS) developed consists of a measurement device and an analysis algorithm, which are a microscope-laser sensor fusion system and a process information system, respectively. It has been found that NAFIS is so successful in detecting irregularities of pore and diameter that the resulting product has been quitely under control even at the high production rate. Pore distribution, fiber diameter and mass uniformity have been readily measured and analyzed by integrating the non-contact measurement technology and the random function-based time domain signal/image processing algorithm. Qualifies of the nano-fiber webs have been revealed in a way that the statistical parameters for the characteristics above are calculated and stored in a certain interval along with the time-specific information. Quality matrix, scale of homogeneity is easily obtained through the easy-to-use GUI information. Finally, ANFIS has been evaluated both for the real-time measurement and analysis, and for the process monitoring.

  • Desorption/ionization on silicon mass spectrometry (DIOS-MS) is a relatively new laser desorption/ionization technique for mass spectrometry without employing an organic matrix. This present study was carried to survey the experimental factors to improve the efficiency of DIOS-MS through electrochemical etching condition in structure and morphological properties of the porous silicon. The porous structure of silicon structure and its properties are crucial for the better performance of DIOS-MS and they can be controlled by the suitable selection of electrochemical conditions. The fabrication of porous silicon and ion signals on DIOS-MS were examined as a function of silicon orientation, etching time, etchant, current flux, irradiation, pore size, and pore depth. We have also examined the effect of pre- and post-etching conditions for their effect on DIOS-MS. Finally, we could optimize the electrochemical conditions for the efficient performance of DIOS-MS in the analysis of small molecule such as amino acid, drug and peptides without any unknown noise or fragmentation.

  • Recently reclamation land is largely developed to utilize the land according to economic growth. The soil of landfill is soft, low shear strength, which makes it difficult to use the equipment. A large movement is occurred on the utility tunnel under construction. The inclined land with high water level and underground facilities are widely distributed and the excess pore water pressure may occur under construction similarly to this study. Some different conditions are made to design result, such as 4m of soil piling near the construction area, heavy rainfall during 2nd excavation that may cause flow liquefaction. To analyze the cause of transverse lateral movement, Three dimensional analysis are performed to four load cases, which is original design condition, flow liquefaction by heavy rainfall, unsymmetric lateral soil pressure, and both of them simultaneously. Ten steps of full construction stage, 1st excavation for utility tunnel, construction of utility tunnel, 1st refill, piling soil from 1m to 4 m, 2nd excavation for drainage culvert, liquefaction around the utility tunnel, construction of drainage culvert and 2nd refill, are take into account to investigate the cause of movement.

  • The electrochemical adsorption of the Ag ions from aqueous solution on pelletized activated carbon monolith was investigated over wide range of operation time. The adsorption capacities of pelletized activated carbon monolith are associated with their internal porosity and are related properties such as surface area, pore size distribution. The chemical industry generates wastewater that contains toxic matters like heavy metals in small concentrations so that their economic recovery is not feasible. But, the method using activated carbon monolith can be used to withdrawal of heavy metals in waste water. After the electrochemical treatment, the quantitative properties in Ag ion solutions are also examined by pH concentration and studied elemental analysis by ICP-Atomic Emission Spectrometer and Energy Disperse X-ray (EDX) spectra. It is consider that the pH is very important factor at the reason of water pollutant with increasing acidity in industrial field. The result of quantitative analysis using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer of metal after electrochemical reaction in Ag ions solution depending on time are shown that the amount of Ag ions deposited was decreased with growth of Ag particles on the carbon surfaces as increasing electrochemically treated time. And, surface morphologies are investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to explain the changes in adsorption properties.

  • Mesoporous MCM-41 was deposited on an inexpensive disk shaped ceramic support through hydrothermal technique for ultrafiltration of $Fe^{3+}$ from aqueous solution. The ceramic support was fabricated using uni-axial compaction technique followed by sintering at $950^{\circ}C$. The characteristics of MCM-41 powder as well as the composite membrane were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM), porosity and pure water permeation test. The XRD result revealed the good crystallinity and well-resolved hexagonally arranged pore geometry of MCM-41. TGA profile of synthesized MCM-41 zeolite displayed the three different stepwise mechanisms for the removal of organic template. The formation of MCM-41 on the porous support was verified by FESEM analysis. The characterization results clearly indicated that the accumulation of MCM-41 by repeated coating on the ceramic disk directs to reduce the porosity and pore size from 47% to 23% and 1.0 to $0.173{\mu}m$, respectively. Moreover, the potential of the fabricated MCM-41 membrane was investigated by ultrafiltration of $Fe^{3+}$ from aqueous stream at various influencing parameters such as applied pressure, initial feed concentration and pH of solution. The maximum rejection 85% was obtained at applied pressure of 276 kPa and the initial feed concentration of 250 ppm at pH 2.

  • Test activated carbon fiber (ACF) was prepared from Polyacrylonirile (PAN) through oxidation and chemical activation. Immersion of ACF precursors in the aqueous KOH solution enhanced the surface structure, as examined by BET pore analysis. Specific surface area increased greatly from less than $70m^2/g$ to $1226m^2/g$ with 4 M KOH, and total pore volume also rose up to $0.483cm^3/g$. In particular, it was found that micropores favorable for $CO_2$ molecule capture occupied more than 95%. Maximum $CO_2$ adsorption capacity was 3.59 mmol/g at 298 K. Low depth of pores in the present ACF may facilitate the molecules' desorption for its regeneration.

  • A copper-based metal organic framework (MOF) named Cu-BTC, also known as HKUST-1, was successfully synthesized by using a solvothermal method. The properties of the Cu-BTC sample were characterized with Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) for phase structure, Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) for thermal stability, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for crystal structure, and Nitrogen adsorption-desorption for pore textural structure. The analysis results displayed that the Cu-BTC sample exhibited a good crystal structure with uniform size of octahedral particles. The BET data revealed a high surface area of $1457 \;m^2g^{-1}$ and a pore volume of $0.60\; cm^3g^{-1}$. The Cu-BTCs ample was also studied for $CO_2$ adsorption and exhibited a maximum $CO_2$ adsorption capacity of 170 mg/g of the sorbent (3.8 mol/kg) at $25^{\circ}C$.

  • This study was carried out to investigate safety evaluation of agricultural reservoirs due to raising the embankment. The seepage analysis and large-scale model test were performed to compare and analyze the pore water pressure(PWP), leakage quantity, settlement and piping phenomenon in the inclined core type and the vertical core type embankments. The PWP after raising the embankment showed smaller than before raising the embankment and the stability for piping after raising the embankment. The allowable seepage quantity and the allowable leakage for the steady state and transient conditions is within the range of safe management standard. After raising the embankment in the inclined core, there was no infiltration by leakage. For the vertical core, the PWP showed a large change by faster infiltration of pore water than in the inclined core. In a rapid drawdown, inclined core was remained stable but the vertical core showed a large change in PWP. Settlement after raising the embankment showed larger amounts of settlement than before raising the embankment. The leakage quantity before raising the embankment and the inclined core type showed no leakage. From the result, an instrument system that can accurately estimate a change of PWP shall be established for the rational maintenance and stabilization of raising the embankment for agricultural reservoirs.

  • The first part of this study dealt with the determination of soil parameters for Lade's double work-hardening model using the raw data obtained from cubical and cylinderal triaxial tests At present, it should be investigated which test can simulated satisfactorily the behavior of soft clayey foundation. In this regard, plate bearing test on the 2-dimentional model foundation(218cm long, 40cm wide, 19&m high) was performed, and finite element analysis carried out to abtain the behavior of the foundation. Settlement, lateral displacement, displacement vector and mode of failure were measured and these values were compared with numerical values in order to validate the numerical program developed by authors. The FEM technique was based on Christain-Boehmer's method, in which the displacement is obtained at each nodal point while stress and pore water pressure at each element. In this research, Biot's equation, which explains was elahorately the phisical meaning of consolidation, was selected, as a governing equation, coupled with Lade's double surface work-hardening constitutive model.

  • In this study the laboratory test for hydraulic conductivity and the seepage analysis with finite element method on measurement section of sea dike embankment were performed for the purpose of estimating the relative density of embankment from the measured pore water pressures, and both results of the test and the analysis were coupled with the method of estimating seepage blocking state with the hydraulic head loss rate in sea dike embankment. The relationship of void ratio vs hydraulic head loss rate was obtained by setting hydraulic conductivity as common ordinate on the relationships between the void ratio and the hydraulic conductivity and between the hydraulic conductivity and the hydraulic head loss rate. The void ratio on the segment between measuring points was calculated from the coupled relationship of the void ratio vs the hydraulic conductivity. The allowable upper and lower limits of hydraulic head loss rate and those of void ratio on the safety were generated from the coupled relationship between the laboratory compaction test and the sedimentation test. Current hydraulic head loss rate and void ratio were evaluated in the allowable range between upper and lower limits.
