The effects of different transient loading conditions on xylene removability and bacterial activity were evaluated in the polyurethane (PU) biofilter inoculated with Rhodococcus sp. EH831: BF1 (the control) was operated under continuous and constant loading ($200{\pm}50ppm$); BF2 under continuous and constant loading after a 2-week long-term shutdown; BF3 under discontinuous (8 h on/16 h off on weekdays and a 2 day-shutdown at weekends); and constant loading BF4 under discontinuous and high loading ($700{\pm}300ppm$); and BF5 under continuous and fluctuating loading (high loading for 8 h and low loading ($75{\pm}25ppm$) for 16 h on weekdays and low loading at weekends). Xylene removal efficiencies in the BF1, BF2, BF3, and BF5 were ranged 83-89%, indicating that 2-week long-term shutdown, intermittent or fluctuant loading condition did not significantly influence the biofilter performance. However, discontinuous and high load condition (BF4) caused to deteriorate xylene removability to 52%. Rhodococcus sp. EH831 could be maintained at $10^9{\sim}10^{10}CFU/g-dry$ PU under 5 kinds of loading conditions. The result of polymerase chain reaction-terminal-restriction fragment length polymorphism showed that there was no significant change in bacterial community structures by different loading conditions.
Household refrigerator cabinets must undergo cyclic testing at -20 ℃ and 65 ℃ for quality control (QC) after their production is complete. These cabinets were assembled from different materials, including acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyurethane (PU) foam, and steel plates. However, different thermal expansion values could be observed owing to differences in the mechanical properties of the materials. In this study, a technique to predict delamination on a refrigerator wall caused by thermal deformation was developed. The mechanical properties of ABS and PU foams were tested, theload factors causing delamination were analyzed, delamination was observed using a high-speed camera, and comparison and verification in terms of stress and strain were performed using a finite element model (FEM). The results indicated that the delamination phenomenon of a refrigerator wall can be defined in two cases. A method for predicting and evaluating delamination was established and applied in an actual refrigerator. To determine the effect of temperature changes on the refrigerator, strain measurements were performed at the weak point and the stress was calculated. The results showed that the proposed FEM prediction technique can be used as a basis for virtual testing to replace future QC testing, thus saving time and cost.

Recycled polyol was obtained by glycolysis of MDI-based Polyurethane(PU) rigid foam. The chemical structure of the recycled pclyol was confirmed by GC(gas chromatography) and 1H-NMR. The recycled polyol throughout the glycolysis contained liquid polyol and methylenedianiline(MDA). MDA which could cause liver cancer is carcinogenic material. TWA(Time Weighted Average.) amount for MDA in MSDS(Material Safety Data Sheets) was confined less than 0.1 ppm. The melting temperature of MDA is $92^{\circ}C$, and boiling temperature is $398^{\circ}C$. During the gylcolysis most of MDA was dissolved in liquid polyol. The probability that MDA diffuses into the atmosphere is low but there could be an absorption of MDA into skin. Furthermore because MDA is amine compound, recycled polyol which contained MDA had a difficulty in reaction control of polyurethane. Therefore reduction of MDA amount was needed strongly. In this study the elimination of MDA were performed through deamination of the recycled polyol by glycidyl ether compounds. As glycolysis was proceeded, the amount of MDA was 9.8 wt % at early stage and increased up to 14.0 wt % after 8 hours reaction. It was found that 2-Ethylhexyl glycidyl ether which contains aliphatic moiety was very effective compound for eliminating the primary aromatic amine compound :md the optimal mole ratio of 2-ethylhexyl glycidyl ether to MAD was 3. The final polyol after deamination by 2-ethylhexyl glycidyl ether has an appropriate viscosity(less than 500 centi poise) for polyurethane reaction.

The worldwide use of polyurethane foam products generates large amounts of waste, which in turn has detrimental effects on the surroundings. Hence, finding an economical and environmentally friendly way to dispose of or recycle foam waste is an utmost priority for researchers to overcome this problem. In that sense, the glycolysis of waste flexible polyurethane foam (WFPF) from automotive seat cushions using different industrial-grade glycols and potassium hydroxide as a catalyst to produce recovered polyol was investigated. The effect of different molecular weight polyols, catalyst concentration, and material ratio (PU foam: Glycols) on the reaction conversion and viscosity of the recovered polyols was determined. The obtained recovered polyols are obtained as single or split-phase reaction products. Besides, the foaming characteristics and physical properties such as cell morphology, thermal stability, and compressive stress-strain nature of the regenerated flexible foams based on the recovered polyols were discussed. It was observed that the regenerated flexible foams displayed good seating comfort properties as a function of hardness, sag factor, and hysteresis loss compared to the reference virgin foam. With the growing demand for a sustainable and circular economy, a global valorization of glycolysis products from polyurethane scraps can be realized by transforming them into profitable substances.
The purpose of this study is to develop the electroconductive textiles based on polyurethane(PU) nanoweb and to explore that it is applicable to smart clothing. The electroconductive textiles developed by coating 2.0 wt% aqueous dispersed non-oxidized graphene paste on the surface of PU nanoweb. The fabricated electroconductive nanoweb was applied as a transmission line to connect the LED lamp, and the brightness of the LED lamp was measured to confirm its performance. The nanoweb transmission line was fixed by two methods(seam sealing tape, embroidering) to connect the LED lamp and AA batteries. The results as follows, the brightness of the LED lamp fixed with seam sealing tape was about 82 lux, and which fixed with embroidering was about 57 lux. It represents that the nanoweb transmission line which fixed with the seam sealing tape has better electrical signal transmitting because the lux value higher than the one fixed by embroidering. In order to compare the performance of the nanoweb transmission line and the metal wire, we connected the LED lamp with copper wire. The brightness of copper wire connected LED lamp was about 193 lux. Although the electrical signal strength of the nanoweb transmission line was weaker than the copper wire, it was reachable to operate LED lamp. The results of this study will provide a basic data to develop the textile based electronic devices, and conducting wire for smart clothing.
