Cordierite ceramics were fabricated via a reaction sintering process using ceramics-filled polysiloxane as a precursor for cordierite ceramics. In this study, the effects of the additive composition, additive content, and sintering temperature on the sintered density and compressive strength of cordierite ceramics have been investigated The sintered densities of reaction-sintered cordierite ceramics containing $TiO_2$ as an additive were insensitive to the additive composition, additive content, and sintering temperature and ranged from $1.92g/cm^3\;to\;2.06g/cm^3$. In contrast, the cordierite ceramics containing $Y_2O_3$ showed a maximal density of $2.21g/cm^3$ at 5 wt% addition and at a sintering temperature of $1400^{\circ}C$. The compressive strength of cordierite ceramics showed the same tendency with the density. Typical compressive strength of cordierite ceramics containing 5 wt% $Y_2O_3$ as a sintering additive and sintered at $1400^{\circ}C\;was\;{\sim}480MPa$.
Purpose: This study was performed to measure the accuracy of adjustable dental impression trays by a scanning laser three-dimensional digitizer. Materials and methods: The metal stock, individual, and adjustable stock trays were used for 60 stone casts(10 casts each) duplicated a resin master model of mandible and maxilla. The type IV dental stone was poured in a vinyl polysiloxane impressions and allowed to set for one hour. The master model and the duplicated casts were digitized using an optical digitizer. The distance between the reference points were measured and analyzed on the graphic image of 3-D graphic software(CATIA version 5.0). The statistical significance of the differences between the groups was determined by a two-way ANOVA. Results : There were no significant differences between the accuracies of the adjustable stock tray and the master model except only anterior arch width on the upper arch and the diagonal arch length and arch length on one side of the lower arch. Conclusion: The adjustable stock trays showed clinically acceptable accuracies of the study cast produced by them.
The Edwards-Vilgis slip-link theory and the Kaliske-Heinrich extended tube theory were tested experimentally using published experimental data on networks of natural and isoprene rubber and on polysiloxane networks. All parameters were adjusted to achieve an optimum fit. The data description obtained with the EV theory is not satisfactory and the parameter values tend to lie outside their reasonably expected range. But for the region of low strains, the Kaliske-Heinrich theory offers a satisfactorily accurate data description which is able to serve for practical purposes. Its crosslink term, however, is based on approximations which lead to a questionable prediction and values determined for the exponent in the entanglement term lie outside the range expected by the KH model. Thus, the title question cannot be given a positive answer. Conclusions published earlier that the trapped entanglements contribute both to the crosslink and constraint (entanglement) term are supported by the present data analysis. Experimental equibiaxial data on hydrocarbon networks do not show any maximum on their stretch ratio dependence, contrary to the predictions of molecular theories. The stretch ratio dependences of relative reduced stresses do not sensitively reflect differences in the chemical nature of the chain backbone (hydrocarbon vs. siloxane) and in the crosslinking method (end-linking vs. random crosslinking).
The advantage of ceramic ink-jet printing technology is the accurate and fast printing process of digital images for various products. For digital ink-jet printing applications, ceramic ink requires proper viscosity and surface tension, along with dispersion stability of the inorganic pigments. The purpose of this study is the formulation of an environment-friendly ceramic ink with a water-based system; using nano-sized $CoAl_2O_4$ pigment as a raw material, ink should have dispersion stability to prevent nozzle clogging during ink-jet printing process. In addition, the surface tension of the ceramic ink was optimized with the polysiloxane surfactant according to the surface tension requirement (20 - 45 mN/m) for ceramic ink-jet printing; by adjusting the viscosity with poly ethylene oxide, jetting behavior of the ceramic ink was investigated according to changes in the physical features through drop watcher measurement.
In this study, a novel-processing route for producing microcellular cordierite ceramics has been developed. The proposed strategy for making the microcellular cordierite ceramics involves three steps: (i) fabricating ceramic-filled preceramic foams by heating a mixture of polysiloxane, expandable microspheres, talc, and alumina in a mold, (ii) cross-linking the foamed body, and (iii) transforming the body into microcellular cordierite ceramics by sintering. Cu jig was used for near net shaping in the foaming step. The experimental variables such as the shape of foaming jig and the content of expendable microsphere were investigated. By controlling the content of expendable microsphere, it was possible to make the porous cordierite ceramics with cell density of ${\sim}1.0{\times}10^9\;cells/cm^3$.
Hydrophilicities of finished cotton fabrics were evaluated in respect of moisture regain and wickability. Changes in internal structure were determined using X-ray diffraction and surface changes in degraded samples were observed through a microscopy. Activated sludge test, soil burial test and enzyme hydrolysis were employed to evaluate the biodegradabilities. In addition, correlation analysis was done between biodegradability and the factors affecting biodegradability in each evalution methods. It was shown that hydrophilicities of silicone finished specimens were lower than that of untreated cotton and decreased in a row of PDMS(polydimethyl siloxane : -CH$_3$)>AFS(amino functional siloxane ; -C$_3$H$_{6}$ NHC$_2$H$_4$NH$_2$)>MHPS(methylhydrogen polysiloxane : -H, Cat : (C$_{17}$ H$_{35}$ COO)$_2$Zn) Although, moisture regain of mercerized cotton was higher than those of the others, wickability was shown to be lower. It was represented that crystalinities of cotton fabrics decreased by the silicone treatment. In activated sludge test and soil burial test, biodegradabilities of silicone treated specimens were lower than that of untreated cotton, where specimens of higher biodegradability exhibited higher biodegradability except mercerized ones. The results from enzyme hydrolysis, however, showed somewhat different tendency in that biodegradability was more closely related with the crystallinities of fabrics. It can be thought that enzyme hydrolysis is carried out for short time, physical accessibility becomes important.
As the performance and density of IC (integrated circuit) devices increase, power and signal integrities in the global interconnects of advanced packaging technologies are becoming more difficult. Thus, the global interconnect technologies should be designed to accommodate increased input/output (I/O) counts, improved power grid network integrity, reduced RC delay, and improved electrical crosstalk stability. This requirement resulted in the fine-pitch interconnects with a low-k dielectric in 3D packaging or wafer level packaging structure. This paper reviews an organic-inorganic hybrid material as a potential dielectric candidate for the global interconnects. An organic-inorganic hybrid material called polysiloxane can provide spin process without high temperature curing, an excellent dielectric constant, and good mechanical properties.
PURPOSE. Vinyl polyether silicone (VPES) has a different composition from other elastomeric impression materials as it combines vinyl polysiloxane (VPS) and polyether (PE). Therefore, it is important to study its properties and behavior under different test conditions. This study investigated the dimensional stability of 5 VPES consistencies when stored for up to 2 weeks, with and without using a standard disinfection procedure. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 40 discs of each VPES consistency (total 200) were made using a stainless steel die and ring as described by ANSI /ADA specification No. 19. 20 discs of each material were immersed in a 2.5% buffered glutaraldehyde solution for 30 minutes. Dimensional stability measurements were calculated immediately after fabrication and repeated on the same discs after 7 and 14 days of storage. The data was analyzed using two-way ANOVA with a significance level set at ${\alpha}=0.05$. RESULTS. The discs mean contraction was below 0.5% at all test times ranging from $0.200{\pm}0.014$ to $0.325{\pm}0.007$. Repeated measures ANOVA showed a statistically significant difference after 2-week storage between the disinfected and non-disinfected groups (P < .001). Although there was no statistically significant difference between the materials at the time of fabrication, the contraction of the materials increased with storage for 1 and 2 weeks. CONCLUSION. The dimensional changes of VPES impression discs after disinfection and prolonged storage complied with ANSI/ADA standard. The tested VPES impression materials were dimensionally stable for clinical use after disinfection for 30 minutes in glutaraldehyde and storage for up to 2 weeks.
Disinfection of dental impressions are necessary due to contamination with patient’s saliva and blood, which is a potential for cross-infection. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of disinfection of four hydrophilic rubber impression materials with three disinfecting solutions, on the dimensional stability and surface hardness of improved stone casts. Three hydrophilic vinyl polysiloxane impression materials(Express, Reprosil, Exafine) and one polyether impression material(Impregum-F) were mixed according to the manufacturer’s directions and impressions were made on a ADA specification No. 19 stainless-steeldie. On removal of the impressions, each impression was immersed in one of the disinfectants(Banicide, Potadine, Clorox) for 10 minutes. After disinfection, type IV improved stone. casts were poured. On this cast, the linear dimension and surface hardness were measuredusing a Measurescope(Nikon, Japan) and a Barcol hardness tester(Barber, Colman Co U. S. A). The results were as follows : 1. The improved stone casts from disinfected Reprosil and Impregum-F impression material did not show dimensional changes(P>0.01). Those from disinfected Express and Exafine impression material showed dimensional changes(P<0.01). The amount of shrinkage was not clinically significant. 2. The improved stone casts from disinfected Express impression material did not exhibit changes in surface hardness(P>0.01), but those from disinfected Reprosil, Exafine, Imp regnum-F impression material showed changes in surface hardness(P<0.01). 3. The dimensinal stability and surface hardness of the improved stone casts were satisfactory using Banicide on Express, all disinfectants used in this study on Reprosil, Potadin and Clorox on Exafine, Banicide and Clorox on Impregum-F. According to these results, immersion disinfection of hydrophilic rubber impression mate rials did not adversely affect the resultant casts. Nevertheless compatibility tests of impression materials and disinfectants should be done when disinfecting impressions.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of digitized stone models, impression materials compared to the master model and the reliability of the computer aided analysis. Methods : A master model(500B-1, Nissin dental product, Japan) with the prepared lower full arch tooth was used. Ten vinyl polysiloxane impressions(Examix$^{(R)}$, GC Industrial Corp, Japan) of master model were taken and type IV stone(aesthetic-base gold$^{(R)}$, Dentona, Germany) were poured in stone models. The linear distance between the reference points were measured and analyzed on the Delcam Copycad$^{(R)}$(Delcam plc, UK). The t-student test for paired samples was used for statistical analysis. Results : The mean differences to master model for stone model and impression material were 0.11~0.19mm, and 0.19~0.29mm, respectively. There were statistical differences in dimensional accuracy for full arch impression between master model and stone model/impressions(p<.05). Conclusions : Two different scanning methods showed clinically acceptable accuracy of full arch digital impression produced by them. These results will have to be confirmed in further clinical studies.
