  • In this study, waffle type barrier ribs for counter electrode discharge cells were prepared via micro-molding process. The master mold was prepared by UV lithography and working mold was manufactured by replicating the master mold. The UV paste used in this study consisted of ceramic powders for the barrier ribs, binder, hardener, and dispersant was filled into cavities of a polymeric mold by action of capillary pressure developed between mold and paste. The results demonstrated a possibility of one-step process for the manufacturing of waffle type barrier ribs embedded with sustaining electrodes.

  • Well-defined star shaped and linear block copolymers were synthesized to study the dispersion stability of copper phthalocyanine (CuPc). We synthesized dispersants using (2-dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA) and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) (PEGMA) by activators generated by electron transfer (AGET) atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). pDMAEMA-b-pPEGMA copolymers were characterized by GPC and NMR. Furthermore, we studied the effect of the dispersion stability of copper phthalocyanine by controlling the degree of polymerization of PEGMA as a stabilizing group. The 4-arm star shaped polymeric dispersant showed better dispersion stability of CuPc at $25^{\circ}C$ for 7 days.

  • We have studied the inkjet patterning of synthesized aqueous silver nano-sol on interface-controlled ITO glass substrate. Furthermore, we designed the conductive ink for direct inkjet patterning on bare ITO glass substrate. The first, the highly concentrated polymeric dispersant-assisted silver nano sol was prepared by variation of molecular weight and control of initial nucleation and growth of silver nanoparticles. The high concentration of batch-synthesized silver nano sol was possible to 40 wt%. At the same time the particle size of silver nanoparticles was below $10{\sim}20nm$. The second, the synthesized silver nano sol was inkjet - patterned on ITO glass substrate. The connectivity and width of fine line depended largely on the wettability of silver nano sol on ITO glass substrate, which was controlled by surfactant. The relationship was understood by wetting angle. The fine line of silver electrode as fine as $50{\sim}100\;{\mu}m$ was successfully formed on ITO glass substrate. The last, the direct inkjet-patternable silver nano sol on bare ITO glass substrate was designed also.

  • The gasoline brands can be determined by gas chromatography. However, determining from the differences in chromatograms is sometimes ambiguous because the gasoline composition is becoming similar from refinery to refinery due to stringent regulations for the protection of the atmospheric environment. To determine the gasoline brands of five refineries in Korea, we have obtained and compared IR spectra of polymeric dispersants which are added to gasoline at several hundreds of ppm levels. Since the deposit control additives used by the five refineries in Korea are different from one another, it is possible to determine the gasoline brands by comparing their IR spectra. A strong and broad C-O stretch absorption peak appears at $1,096cm^{-1}$ for the additives used by A, B, and C refineries, which renders an easy differentiation of the additives from those of D and E refineries. The differentiation of all five gasoline brands are possible due to the characteristic vibrations present in each additive.

  • As a primary material for MLCC, $BaTiO_3$ particles coated with two additives in a core-shell structure were prepared in this study. This composite powder can not only reduce the VOC emission during MLCC manufacture but also increase the density and reliability of electronic products. The additives were $Y_2O_3$ and $MnCO_3$, whose composition information was obtained from domestic companies. It was observed that the surface of $BaTiO_3$ particles was uniformly as well as simultaneously coated by those two materials via urea-decomposition reaction over $70^{\circ}C$ as the reaction temperature. Elemental analysis indicated that the measured content of each additve was quite close to the designated value. The effect of polymeric dispersant such as PVP, on the coating characteristics was not as significant as expected.

  • The synthesis of highly concentrated silver nano sol assisted by polymeric dispersant (polyelectrolytes) for inkjet method was studied. The silver nano sol was prepared with AgNO$_3$, polyelectrolytes (HS5468cf ; polyacrylic ammonium salt), and reducing agent. The polyelectrolytes play an important role in formation of complex composed of Ag$\^$+/ion and carboxyl group (COO$\^$-/), result in preparation of highly dispersed silver nano particles. The optimization of added amount of polyelectrolytes, and concentration of silver nano sol was studied. The silver nanoparticles were evaluated by XRD, particle size/zeta potential analyzer and FE-TEM. The silver nanoparticles with the range of 10 nm in diameter were produced. The concentration of batch-synthesized silver nano sol was possible up to 40 wt%.

  • It is expected that the inkjet technology offers prospect for reliable and low cost manufacturing of FPD (Flat Panel Display). This inkjet technology also offers a more simplified manufacturing process for various part of the FPD than conventional process. For example, recently the novel manufacturing processes of color filter (C/F) in LCD, or RGB patterning in OLED by inkjet printing method have been developed. This elaborates will be considered as the precious point of manufacturing process for the mass production of enlarged-display panel with a low price. On this point of view, we would like to review the status of inkjet technology in FPD, with some results on forming micro line by inkjet patterning of suspension type silver nano ink as below. We have studied the inkjet patterning of synthesized aqueous silver nano-sol on interface-controlled ITO glass substrate. Furthermore, we designed the conductive ink for direct inkjet patterning on bare ITO glass substrate. The first, the highly concentrated polymeric dispersant-assisted silver nano sol was prepared. • Magnetite nanoparticles were synthesized by adding an ammonium hydroxide to a mixed solution of iron (II) and (III) chlorides. A silicon surfactant of ${\alpha},{\omega}$-(3-aminopropyl)polydimethylsiloxane was adsorbed on the particles as dispersant and a polydimethylsiloxane polymer was used to prepare ferrofluids of silicone oil base. Fluorinated surfactants of anionic ammoniated perfluoroalkyl sulfonamide and nonionic fluoroaliphatic polymeric esters were applied to the particles and a perfluoropolyether was used to prepare ferrofluids of fluorine oil base. The experimental conditions were used for preparing the ferrofluids with concentrations of 200, 300 and 400 mg/mL, and density, magnetization and viscosity of the products were characterized. The density values increased in proportion to the concentration, indicating 1.11-1.27 g/mL for silicone-oil-based fluids and 1.95-2.10 g/mL for fluorine-oil-based fluids in the range of 200-400 mg/mL. The saturation magnetization of the silicone-oil-based and fluorine-oil-based fluids indicated 14.7, 24.4, and 30.7 mT and 15.8, 23.3, and 33.7 mT for 200, 300, and 400 mg/mL, respectively, depending on the content of magnetic particles in the fluid. The viscosity of the silicone-oil-based ferrofluids was highly stable compared to that of the fluorine-oil-based with increasing temperatures. The ferrofluids are usually applied to seals and speakers with the silicone base and to seals with the fluorine base.

  • A new one-shot process was employed to fabricate proton exchange membranes (PEMs) over conventional solvent-casting process. Here, PEMs containing nano-dispersed silica nanoparticles were fabricated using one-shot process similar to the bulk-molding compounds (BMC). Different components such as reactive dispersant, urethane acrylate nonionmer (UAN), styrene, styrene sulfuric acid and silica nano particles were dissolved in a single solvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) followed by copolymerization within a mold in the presence of radical initiator. We have successfully studied the water-swelling and proton conductivity of obtained nanocomposite membranes which are strongly depended on the surface property of dispersed silica nano particles. In case of dispersion of hydrophilic silica nanoparticles, the nanocomposite membranes exhibited an increase in water-swelling and a decrease in methanol permeability with almost unchanged proton conductivity compared to neat polymeric membrane. The reverse observations were achieved for hydrophobic silica nanoparticles. Hence, hydrophilic and hydrophobic silica nanoparticles were effectively dispersed in hydrophilic and hydrophobic medium respectively. Hydrophobic silica nanoparticles dispersed in hydrophobic domains of PEMs largely suppressed swelling of hydrophilic domains by absorbing water without interrupting proton conduction occurred in hydrophilic membrane. Consequently, proton conductivity and water-swelling could be freely controlled by simply dispersing silica nanopartilces within the membrane.
