Synthesis and Characterization of Alternating Block Copolycarbonates Containing Constituent Groups of Polysulfone

  • A series of alternating and alternating block copolycarbonates containing the constituent groups of polysulfone was synthesized through a multi-step solution condensation method. For the regulation of block length, monodisperse oligomers were prepared by using a large excess of the bisphenols and were subsequently incorporated into the copolymer chains. Separating the unreacted bisphenols from the oligomers by dissolution/precipitation steps took advantage of solubility differences. The structures of the monomers, oligomers, and copolymers were characterized and confirmed by GPC, NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. Monodispersity of the oligomers, which is critical for control over the block length in the copolymers, was confirmed by GPC and mass spectrometry. Of the two constituent groups of the polysulfone, the sulfone linkage stiffens the polycarbonate copolymer chain, while the ether linkage softens it.

  • A fluorinated polybenzimidazole (FPBI) was synthesized from 3,3-diaminobenzidine (DAB) of tetraamine, 2,2-bis(4-carboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane of aromatic biscarboxylic acid, and 4,4-sulfonyldibenzoic acid of aromatic biscarboxylic acid in polyphosphoric acid (PPA). A FPBI was easily cast and made into clear films. The structure of condensation polymers and corresponding membranes were analyzed using GPC (gel permeation chromatography), $^1H$-NMR ($^1H$ nuclear magnetic resonance) and FT-IR (fourier transform infrared). TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) analysis showed that the prepared membranes were thermally stable, so that elevated temperature fuel cell operation would be possible. The proton conductivity of the FPBI membranes increased with increasing temperatures in the polymer. A FPBI membrane has a maximum ion conductivity of 45 mS/cm at $90^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity.

테오필린 분자 날인 고분자의 합성 및 특성 (Synthesis and Characterization of Theophylline Molecularly Imprinted Polymers)

  • 분자 날인 기술은 표적 분자에 대해 높은 선택도를 갖는 합성 재료를 제조하기 위한 효과적인 방법이다. 본 연구에서는 주형 분자로 테오필린(theophylline)을, 가교제로 폴리에스터-아크릴레이트 수지를 사용하여 UV 중합을 통해 분자 날인 고분자(MIP)를 합성하였다. 기능성 단량체 종류가 MIP의 성능에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해, 메타크릴산(mathacrylic acid), 아크릴산(acrylic acid), 그리고 아크릴 아미드(acrylic amide)를 기능성 단량체로 각각 사용하여 MIP를 합성하였다. MIP는 비날인 고분자(NIP)보다 테오필린에 대해 훨씬 더 높은 재결합 능력을 보였다. 메타크릴산을 사용하여 합성한 MIP는 가장 높은 재결합 능력을 보였다. MIP의 선택도는 테오필린과 분자구조가 유사한 카페인(caffeine) 용액을 사용하여 조사하였다. 클로로포름보다 극성인 증류수를 용매로 사용하였을 경우 MIP의 테오필린 재결합 성능은 감소하였다.

  • In recent years, organometallic polymer containing silane and silole unit has been a topic of interest because of the wide range of optical, electrical and luminescent properties. In previous work, we synthesized functionalsilanebridged[1]ferrocenophane from the reaction of dimethyldichlorosilane[Me2SiCl2] and diphenyldichlorosilane[Ph2SiCl2] and dichloromethylvinylsilane[C3H6SiCl2] with ferrocene$[Fe({\eta}-C5H4)2]$ and n-BuLi. In this work, we have synthesized Poly(ferrocenylsilane) via the Thermal Ring-Opening Polymerization(ROP). characteristics of the poly(ferrocenylsilane) were investigated by gel permeation chromatography(GPC), 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy.

Synthesis and Cyclization of Aromatic Polyhydroxyamides Containing Trifluoromethyl Groups

  • Polyhydroxyamides derivatized with trifluorormethyl ether and trifluoromethyl ester groups were investigated as possible candidates for a new flame retardant polymer. Model compounds for these derivatized polyhydroxyamides were synthesized and their cyclization chemistry was investigated. The model compound study revealed that trifluorornethyl ester group containing model compounds can cyclize on heating, while trifluoromethyl ether group containing model compounds cannot. The non-fluorinated ether and ether derivatives behaved similarly. The trifluoromethyl ester derivatized polyhydroxyamides were synthesized according to the procedures for the model compounds. TGA characterization revealed that the fluorinated polymers have nearly same thermal stability as the underivatized PHA after cyclization.

  • A series of new light-emitting random copolymers with fully conjugated structure was prepared, for the first time through the well-known Gilch polymerization between 1,4-bis(chloromethyl)-2-ethylhexyloxy-5-methoxybenzene and 2,5-bis(bromomethyl)thiophene monomers in different ratios. The synthesized polymers (on thin film) showed the maximum wavelength of UV-visible absorbance and photoluminescence (PL) near 500 nm and near 600 nm, respectively. A single-layer light-emitting diode device, which has a simple ITO (indium-tin oxide)/polymer/Al configuration, was fabricated by spin-coating of polymers and then vacuum evaporation of Al metal. The threshold bias of PMEHPVTVs was in the range of 3.5-10 V. As in the PL spectra, the maximum wavelength of light emission near 600 nm was also shown in electroluminescence (EL) spectra of PMEHPVTVs when the operating voltage was about 7 - 14 V.

  • Four novel polyurethanes were prepared from 4-{(4-hydroxyphenyl)iminomethyl} phenol by reactions with two aromatic diisocyanates, 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and toluene 2,4-diisocyanate, and two aliphatic diisocyanates, isophorone diisocyanate and hexamethylene diisocyanate. The polyurethanes formed were characterized by UV-vis, fluorescence, FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, $^{13}C$-NMR, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, and X-ray diffraction. The polymers were semi-crystalline and all polymers were soluble in polar aprotic solvents.

다양한 구조의 알킬기를 함유한 친유성 몬모릴로나이트의 제조 및 특성 연구 (Synthesis and Characterization of Organophilic Montmorillonites Modified with Various Alkyl Substituents)

  • 몬모릴로나이트에 사슬 길이가 긴 알킬기를 삽입하면 층간 거리가 증가할 뿐만 아니라 소수성도 증가하며 이와 같은 특성은 다양한 고분자에 적용하여 나노복합체를 형성할 때 몬모릴로나이트의 박리거동에 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 물/이소프로필 알코올 용액에 몬모릴로나이트를 분산하고 여러 치환 구조를 가지고 있는 알킬 아민들의 암모늄염을 이용하여 친유성 몬모릴로나이트를 제조하여 열분해 특성, 층간 간격, 소수성 등을 조사하였다. X-선 회절 실험에 의해 알킬 치환기의 길이가 증가함에 따라 실리케이트 층간 간격이 13.1 $\AA$에서 29.4 $\AA$까지 증가함을 확인하였으며 또한 알킬 아민에 치환된 알킬 사슬의 수에 따라 친유성 몬모릴로나이트의 흡수성은 2.7%까지 감소하는 것을 확인하였다.

Polyorganophosphazene 하이드로젤의 합성 (Synthesis and Characterization of Polyorganophsphazene Hydrogels)

  • 여러 가지의 친수성기와 소수성기를 함유하는 폴리포스파진을 합성하고 이들 고분자의 가교 반응을 수행하였다. 사용한 치환기는 (2-메톡시에톡시)에톡시기와 2,2,2-트라이플로로에톡시, 페닐옥시, 알라닌 등이었다. 합성된 고분자의 가교는 감마선 조사, 자외선 조사 및 가교제와 감광제를 사용한 자외선 조사 등의 방법을 사용하여 가교시켰다. 세가지 방법 중에서 가교제와 감광제를 사용한 자외선 조사가 가장 좋은 결과를 주었다. 얻어진 고분자를 물에 담궈 하이드로젤을 얻어내었으며 이들의 성질을 간략히 조사한 결과 모든 경우 최저 임계온도를 나타내는 행동을 하였다.

  • Biodegradable cationic poly(ester-amide) polymers were synthesized by double-monomer method, that showed excellent solubility in many organic solvents and water. Different degradation patterns were obtained by the regulation of monomer ratios and overall long period of time of DNA protection up to 12 days was shown by PicoGreen reagent assay. Good transfection profiles in the presence of serum and very low toxicity on mammalian cells may allow these polymers to become suitable for long-term gene delivery systems and therapeutic applications.
