  • In this paper we describe a method for aligning a robot gripper using image information. The region of gripper is represented from HSI color model that has major advantage of brightness independence. In order to extract the feature points for vision based position control, we find the corners of gripper shape using polygonal approximation method which determines the segment size and curvature of each points. We apply the vision based scheme to the task of alignment of gripper to reach the desired position by 2 RGB cameras. Experiments are carried out to exhibit the effectiveness of vision based control using feature points from polygonal approximation of gripper.

  • This paper discusses techniques for embedding data into 3D polygonal models of geometry. Much researches of Watermarking had been gone as element technology of DRM (digital rights management). But, few research had gone to 3D polygonal model. Most research is limited at text document, 2D image, animation, music etc. RP system is suitable a few production in various goods species, and it is used much in industry to possible reason that produce prototype and find error or incongruent factor at early stage on design in product development childhood. This paper is research about method that insert watermark in STL ( stereolithography) file that have 3D shape model. Proposed algorithm inserts watermark in normal vector region and facet's interior region of 3D shape data. For this reason, 3D shape does not produce some flexure and fulfill invisibility of watermark. Experiment results that insert and extract watermark in normal netter region and facet's Interior region of 3D shape data by proposed algorithm do not influence entirely in 3D shape and show that insertion and extraction of watermark are possible.

  • A visual sensor consisted of polygonal mirror, laser, and CCD camera was proposed to measure the distance to the weld joint for recognizing the joint shape. To scan the laser beam of the sensor onto an object, 8-facet polygonal mirror was used as the rotating mirror. By locating the laser and the camera at axi-symmetrical positions around the mirror, the synchronized-scan condition could be satisfied even when the mirror was set to rotate through one direction continuously, which could remove the inertia effect of the conventional oscillating-mirror methods. The mathematical modelling of the proposed sensor with the optical triangulation method made it possible to derive the relation between the position of an image on the camera and the one of a laser light on the object. Through the geometrical simulation of the proposed sensor with the principal of reflection and virtual image, the optical path of a laser light could be predicted. The position and direction of the CCD camera were determined based on the Scheimpflug's condition to fit the focus of any image reflected from an object within the field of view. The results of modelling and simulation revealed that the proposed visual sensor could be used to recognize the weld joint and its vicinity located within the range of the field of view and the resolution. • A method of recognizing 2-dimensional polygonal object is proposed by using a concept of generalized incremental circle transform. The generalized incremental circle transform, which maps boundaries of an object into a circular disc, represents efficiently the shape of the boundaries that are obtained from digirized binary images of the objects. It is proved that the generalized incremental circle transform of an object is invariant to object translation, rotation, and size, and can be used as feature information for recognizing two dimensional polygonal object efficiently.

  • A method of recognizing objects is proposed that uses a concept of modified incremental circle transform. The modified incremental circle transform, which maps bundaries of an object into an unit circle, represnets efficiently the shape of the boundaries detected in digitized binary images of the objects. It is proved that modified incremental circle transform of object, which is invariant under object translation, rotation, and size, can be used as feature information for recognizing two dimensional polygonal object efficiently.

  • This paper proposes an efficient method for encoding the shape information of the object in the image. The polygonal approximation method is categorized into a loss coding method and is widely used for approximating object's shape information. The proposed method selects less number of vertices than IRM (iterated refinement method) or PVS (progressive vertex selection) when the maximum distortion is given, so reduces the bit-rates. The proposed method selects the vertices of a polygon with a simple and efficient method considering the rate-distortion sense. We construct the shape information coder, which shows the outstanding performance in the rate-distortion sense, based on the conventional progressive vertex selection method and the new vertex selection condition that we propose in this paper. Simulation results show that the proposed method has better performance than other conventional vertex selection methods in the tate-distortion sense.

  • A simple kinematically admissible velocity field is proposed to determine the final-stage extrusion load and the average extruded length in the square-die forward extrusion of regular polygonal-shaped bars from circular billets. From the proposed velocity field, the upper-bound extrusion load and the average extruded length are determined by minimizing the total power consumption with respect to four parameters. Experiments have been carried out with hard solder billets at room temperature. The theoretical predictions of the extrusion load are in good agreements with the experimental results and there is generally reason able agreement in average extruded length between theory and experiment.

  • In this paper, defect formation in ring rolling is revealed by computer simulation of ring rolling processes. The rigid-plastic finite element method is employed for this study. An analysis model having relatively fine mesh system near the roll gap is used for reducing the computational time and a scheme of minimizing the volume change is applied. The formation of the central cavity formation defect in ring rolling of a taper roller bearing outer race and the polygonal shape defect in ring rolling of a ball bearing outer race has been simulated. It has been seen that the results are qualitatively good with actual phenomena.

  • By using a concept of interrelation vector between line segments a new algorithm for partial shape recognition of two-dimensional objects is introduced. The interrelation vector which is invariant under translation rotation and scaling of a pair of line segments is used as a feature information for polygonal shape recognition. Several useful properties of the interrelation vector are also derived in relation to efficient partial shape recognition. The proposed algorithm requires only small space of storage and is shown to be computationally simple and efficient.
