  • In this study, conjugate fibers were prepared from 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol-modified polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin using side by side conjugate spinning, sea-island type conjugate spinning, and split type conjugate spinning methods, and the properties of the conjugate fibers were investigated via several techniques. When viscosity increased, the tenacity of side by side conjugate fibers was increased, whereas elongation decreased. The sea-island conjugate fibers showed lower weight loss and surface color difference (K/S) values relative to that of regular PET fibers at the same conditions. The SEM results indicate that orange type spilt readily produced at a temperature range of 120 - 140$^{\circ}C$.

  • PTT(poly trimethylene terephthalate)섬유는 PET(polyethylene terephthalate)섬유에 비하여 탄성 (elasticity)가 우수하고 염색성이 PET와 유사한 점에서 차세대섬유로 분류되고 있다. • The polymer nanocomposites are attracting considerable attention on account of the characteristic properties of nanoparticles have extremely large surface area per a unit mass. Recentry, mica-type silicates like montmorillonite have received a good deal of attention as effective nano-reinforcemen(1), but actually some critical problems such as the difficulties of exfoliation and surface modification, the weak heat-resistance of modifier, and inferior processability due to the increase in melt viscosity have restricted the mass production and various applications of the nanocoposite. • In this work, electroless Ni-plating on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) ultra-fine fibers surfaces was carried out to improve the electric conductivity of the fiber. The surface properties of PET ultra-fine fibers were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and contact angle analyses. The electric conductivity of the fibers was measured using a 4-point testing method. The experimental results revealed the presence of island-like nickel clusters on the PET ultra-fine fibers surfaces in the initial plating state, and the electric conductivity of the Ni-plated fibers was enhanced with increasing plating time and thickness of the Ni-layers on the PET ultra-fine fibers.

  • In this paper, the flame-retardant wall paper was successfully prepared with recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) short cut fiber with flame-retardant property and wood pulp using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as binder followed by treatment of non-halogen flame retardant. Physical properties such as formation index, tensile strength, elongation, and burst strength increased as defibrillation increased except tear strength. Bulk increased but formation index, tensile strength, elongation and burst strength decreased along with addition of PET short cut fiber. It was also found that tear strength rose significantly up to 30% of PET short cut fiber and then declined (fell) rapidly. As addition level of PVA increased tensile strength, elongation and burst strength increased, but tear strength decreased slightly. Addition of 20% of PET short cut fiber and 13% of PVA provided the flame-retardant wall paper with both improved flameproofing and physical properties.
