This study investigated the time-dependent dimensional changes of elastomeric impression materials using holographic interferometry. Six commercial impression materials, Permlastic(polysulfide), Xantopren VL (condensation silicone), low and medium viscosity of Exafine, Provil (addition silicone), and Impregum(polyether), were selected. Steel plate was used as custom tray, and each impression specimen was 20 mm in width, 15 mm in length and 3 mm in thickness. Each impression material was evaluated at 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 hours after setting using real-time holography. The results were as follow : 1. Xantopren VL and Permlastic showed relatively severe and continuous dimensional changes after setting. Low viscosity of Exafine, Provil, Impregum showed relatively slight dimensional changes with function of time and medium viscosity of Exafine showed almost no dimensional change from 2 hours after setting to 6 hours. 2. On initial dimensional changes within 1 hour, the amount of change in low viscosity of Exafine was the least and Xantopren VL was the largest. 3. On dimensional changes at 4 hours after setting, the amount of change in medium viscosity of Exafine was the least and tile change of Xantopren VL was the largest. 4. In overall dimensional stability during 12 hours, medium viscosity of Exafine was the most stable and Xantopren VL and Permlastic were least stable.

The use of preformed polymers and their cross-linking have been attempted in order to improve the intrinsic fragility of monolayers and Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films. The evaluation of the characteristics of LB multi-layer by using AT-cut quartz crystal have been also attempted. From this study, it reveals that the polyether pendants of 2C18VE3 lie at the air-water interface at low surface pressures and are forced down into the subphase when the monolayers are compressed. This caracteristic behavoir of the pendant polyethers is much clear on aqueous PAA and also observed on saturated aqueous NaCl. And the characteristics of LB multi-layers could be evaluated by using AT-cut quartz crystal in situ.
This study examines the effects of cell size and structure on the oil adsorption by polyurethane (PU) foam. A series of oil-adsorptive PU foam has been prepared, using various molecular weight of polyether polyol (GP-1000, GP-3000, GP-4000, GP-5000), together with TDI-80, water and additives. It was found that the cell size of PU foam decreased with increasing the agitation speed and surfactant content. Oil-adsotption of PU foam increased over 2000% with the increase of molecular weight of polyol and with the decrease of cell size. Increase in the surfactant content and the viscosity of adsorbed oil also give a remarkable decrease in oil adsorption.
PURPOSE. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of 14 different intraoral scanners for the All-on-4 treatment concept. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Four implants were placed in regions 13, 16, 23, and 26 of an edentulous maxillary model that was poured with scannable Type 4 gypsum to imitate the All-on-4 concept. The cast was scanned 10 times for each of 14 intraoral scanners (Primescan, iTero 2, iTero 5D, Virtuo Vivo, Trios 3, Trios 4, CS3600, CS3700, Emerald, Emerald S, Medit i500, BenQ BIS-I, Heron IOS, and Aadva IOS 100P) after the polyether ether ketone scanbody was placed. For the control group, the gypsum model was scanned 10 times with an industrial scanner. The first of the 10 virtual models obtained from the industrial model was chosen as the reference model. For trueness, the data of the 14 dental scanners were superimposed with the reference model; for precision, the data of all 14 scanners were superimposed within the groups. Statistical analyses were performed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Shapiro-Wilks, and Dunn's tests. RESULTS. Primescan showed the highest trueness and precision values (P < .005), followed by the iTero 5D scanner (P < .005). CONCLUSION. Some of these digital scanners can be used to make impressions within the All-on-4 concept. However, the possibility of data loss due to artifacts, reflections, and the inability to combine the data should be considered.
The effect of phenylphosphonic acid (PPOA) on polyurethane (PU) thermal stability was studied through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Thermogravimetric analysis. To synthesize PPOA-modified PUs (PPOA-PUs), polyether-type diols (Mw=62, 106, 190, 419, 605) were chemically modified with PPOA and then reacted with 4,4'-dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate (H12MDI) and 4,4-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI). During thermal decomposition in air, the PPOA embedded in the PUs formed intumescent phosphocarbonaceous char. Below 400℃, PPOA-H12MDI-PUs were more unstable, as PPOA decomposed at lower temperatures than phenyl groups and aliphatic ethers. Above 550℃, the thermal stability of PUs followed this order: PPOA-MDI-PUs > PPOA-H12MDI-PUs > MDI-PUs > H12MDI-PUs. At 700℃, unmodified PUs had no residue, while the PPOA-MDI-PU residue was 4.4~23.0 wt.% and the PPOA-H12MDI-PU residue was 1.5~17.5 wt.%. The enhanced thermal stability of PPOA-MDI-PUs at high temperatures can be attributed to the synergetic effect of PPOA and phenyl groups on the formation of phosphocarbonaceous char.

Until recently, only perfluorinated ionomer membrane such as Nation and Aciflex practically could be successfully used in water splitting. However, these membrane are limited by high cost and loss of membrane performance such as proton conductivity at elevated temperature above 80$^{\circ}C$. The sulfonated aromatic polymers such as PEEK and PSf, polyimides, and polybenzimidazoles are expected to have lower production cost as well as satisfactory chemical and electrochemical properties. HPAs and sulfonated polymers could have a significant influence on water electrolysis performance at elevated temperatures above 80$^{\circ}C$, but these phenomena have received relatively little attention until now. Therefore, it would be desirable to investigate the interrelation between the HPA and sulfonated polymer, such as SPEEK. The SPEEK membrane were prepared by the sulfonation of PEEK, and HPA was blended with SPEEK to increase the mechanical strength and electrochemical characteristics. As a results, electrochemical characteristics such as proton conductivity and ion exchange capacity were improved with the addion of 0.5 g HPA. And the properties of polymer electrolyte, SPEEK/HPA were better than Nation membrane at elevated temperature above 80$^{\circ}C$.

Poly(ether sulfone) (PES) embedded diglycidylether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) epoxy composites were fabricated for improving its mechanical properties and thermal stability. The mechanical properties such as tensile, flexural and impact strength of the composites changed significantly with the introduction of PES. The value of the fracture toughness of this composite also was increased remarkably about 24%. Thermal stability of PES/epoxy composites also improved 12%, which was calculated with integral procedural decomposition temperature (IPDT). From the differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) result, the curing temperature and curing heat decreased according to the increase of PES contents. These were attributed to the good distribution and the formation of the semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (semi-IPNs) composed of the epoxy network and linear PES.

Disinfection of dental impressions are necessary due to contamination with patient’s saliva and blood, which is a potential for cross-infection. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of disinfection of four hydrophilic rubber impression materials with three disinfecting solutions, on the dimensional stability and surface hardness of improved stone casts. Three hydrophilic vinyl polysiloxane impression materials(Express, Reprosil, Exafine) and one polyether impression material(Impregum-F) were mixed according to the manufacturer’s directions and impressions were made on a ADA specification No. 19 stainless-steeldie. On removal of the impressions, each impression was immersed in one of the disinfectants(Banicide, Potadine, Clorox) for 10 minutes. After disinfection, type IV improved stone. casts were poured. On this cast, the linear dimension and surface hardness were measuredusing a Measurescope(Nikon, Japan) and a Barcol hardness tester(Barber, Colman Co U. S. A). The results were as follows : 1. The improved stone casts from disinfected Reprosil and Impregum-F impression material did not show dimensional changes(P>0.01). Those from disinfected Express and Exafine impression material showed dimensional changes(P<0.01). The amount of shrinkage was not clinically significant. 2. The improved stone casts from disinfected Express impression material did not exhibit changes in surface hardness(P>0.01), but those from disinfected Reprosil, Exafine, Imp regnum-F impression material showed changes in surface hardness(P<0.01). 3. The dimensinal stability and surface hardness of the improved stone casts were satisfactory using Banicide on Express, all disinfectants used in this study on Reprosil, Potadin and Clorox on Exafine, Banicide and Clorox on Impregum-F. According to these results, immersion disinfection of hydrophilic rubber impression mate rials did not adversely affect the resultant casts. Nevertheless compatibility tests of impression materials and disinfectants should be done when disinfecting impressions.
