이론적 Biodegradability를 토대로 한 토양 내 PAH의 Bioavailability 예측 방안

  • 대부분의 유기물은 토양의 특성에 따라 그 흡착 및 탈착 양상이 다르며 이는 오염물질의 토양에서의 지속성 및 이동성에 영향을 미치게 된다. 본 연구에서는 대표적인 유기오염물인 PAH(Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon)에 대하여 흡착 및 탈착과 오염물질의 미생물 분해 등을 통한 제거 기작과의 연관성을 연구하고자 한다. PAH의 이론적인 미생물분해반응식은 열역학적 이론을 바탕으로 하는 반쪽반응방법을 사용하여 예측할 수 있다. 오염물과 토양의 특성에 따른 흡착 및 탈착 양상을 파악하고, 앞에서 구한 미생물 분해반응식을 이용하여 이론적 분해량을 예측하면 오염물의 생물학적 이용성과 노출량을 결정할 수 있다 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 토양의 여러 특성을 분석한 후, PAH의 미생물 분해량 및 분해율을 측정하고자 한다. 실험을 통하여 실제 토양에서 측정된 PAH 분해량과 위의 이론적 분해량 예측 결과 사이의 관계를 토양의 특성을 이용하여 설명할 수 있으며 나아가 오염물질의 생물학적이용성에 관하여 개략적으로 일반화된 예측 모형을 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구를 통하여 토양과 유기오염물질, 미생물간의 상호 작용에 대한 이해를 높이고 보다 실질적인 유기오염물의 생물학적 이용성을 예측할 수 있는 방안을 마련할 수 있을 것이다.

소나무잎을 Passive Air Sampler로 이용하여 지역별 대기 중 다환방향족 탄화수소의 농도 및 발생원 추정 (Estimation of Atmospheric PAH Concentrations and Sources at Several Sites Using Pine Needles as a Passive Air Sampler)

  • Objectives: This study was carried out in order to estimate atmospheric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) concentrations and sources using pine needles as a passive air sampler (PAS) in urban (Pyeongtaek), semirural (Anseong) and rural (Jincheon) sites. Methods: One-year-old pine needles were collected for analysis of their PAH concentrations ($C_{p,n}g/g$ dry) at the end of December. PAHs concentrations in the ambient air ($C_a$, $ng/m^3$) were calculated with a $Log(C_p/C_a)-LogK_{oa}$ correlational equation. Results: PAHs concentrations in ambient air ($C_a$) were high, in the order of urban ($114.03ng/m^3$), semirural ($105.17ng/m^3$) and rural ($61.91ng/m^3$) sites. However, distributions of PAH isomer concentrations were very similar. PAHs of which molecular weight is smaller than 228.30 (AcPy, Acp, Flu, Phen, Ant, Flt, Pyr, BaA, Chry) made up most of the PAHs in the ambient air (96.6-98.5%). Conclusion: At urban, semirural and rural sites, it was concluded that the main source of PAHs in the ambient air ratio of each PAH isomer concentration was cars, especially diesel vehicles.

영남지역 논토양에서 다핵방향족탄화수소 농도의 장기변동 (Long-term Changes in Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Content of Paddy Soils in Youngnam area)

  • 영남농업연구소에 보관된 토양 시료의 분석결과 밀양지역 논토양에서의 PAHs 함량 1978년 이후 지속적으로 감소되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 1978년에 $200{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$을 넘어서 1980년에 최고농도($237{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$)에 달하였으나, 이후 지속적으로 감소하여 2001년에는 $100{\mu}g\;kg^{-1}$ 수준까지 감소하였다. 이상의 결과는 PAHs의 발생원이 적은 지역의 농경지에서는 1980년대 이후 대체적으로 PAHs의 농도가 감소하고 있고, 오염물질(PAHs)의 대기이동에 의한 토양오염의 우려가 비교적 낮다는 것을 시사한다.

황복(Takifugu obscurus)에 대한 중금속, 유기주석화합물 및 다환방향족탄화수소(PAHs)의 급성 독성 (Acute Toxicity of Dissolved Inorganic Metals, Organotins and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons to Puffer Fish, Takifugu obscurus)

  • We exposed juvenile puffer fish, Takifugu obscurus(30 days after hatching) to various aqueous pollutants including 4 kinds of inorganic metals (Ag, Cd, Cu and Hg), 2 organotin compound.; (tributyltin [TBT] and triphenyltin[TPhT]) and 5 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) compounds (chrysene, fluoranthene, naphthalene, phenanthrene and pyrene) to estimate median lethal concentrations (LC50s) of each pollutant after the 96-hour acute exposure. Among the inorganic metals, Hg (52 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L; 96-h LC50) was most toxic to test animals and followed by Ag (164 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L), Cu (440 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L) and Cd (1180 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L). Aqueous TBT was more toxic between the two organotins; the 96-h LC50 for TBT (5.1 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L) was 3 times lower than that of TPhT (17.3 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L). The acute toxicity of PAH compounds was highest for chrysene (1.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L; 96-h LC50) and decreased in the order of pyrene (65 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L) > fluoranthene (158 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L) > phenanthrene (432 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L) > naphthalene (8690 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L). The toxicity of PAH compounds wat closely related to their physico-chemical characteristics such as $K_{ow}$ and water solubility, and well explained by simple QSAR relationship. The sensitivity of puffer fish to various inorganic and organic pollutants was generally comparable to various fish species widely used as standard test species in previous studies and further evaluation should be conducted to develop adequate testing procedure for T. obscurus when used in various toxicity tests.

사이클로덱스트린을 이용한 PAH오염토양의 화학적 세정 (Chemical Washing of PAH-Contaminated Soil with Cyclodextrins as a Main Surfactant: A Labscale Study)

  • 본 연구는 천연계 계면활성제의 하나인 사이클로덱스트린을 이용한 화학적 토양세정을 다룬다. 두가지 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon인 phenanthrene과 naphthalene을 오염물질로 선정하고 토양종류 및 세정강도를 주변수로 하여 수직칼럼 상에서의 오염물질 제거효과를 분석, 고찰하였다. 실험실 규모의 연구결과, 오염원 제거효율은 세정액의 유량, 농도, 온도 및 토양칼럼의 공극률에 비례하는 것으로 나타났으며, 형광광도 분석과 methylene blue와 같은 염료 라벨링 분석을 통하여 초기 세정은 토양과 계면활성제의 흡착에 의존하고 세정이 거듭될수록 유체흐름에 의한 전단력이 주요변수임을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 데이터는 향후 pilot 규모의 현장세정시 기초자료로 활용가능하며, 세정전략 (회분식, 연속식)수립에 유용할 것으로 사료된다.

Effects of Phenanthrene Exposure on the Acetylcholinesterase Activity of Olive Flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus)

  • Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity is a potential biomarker for phenanthrene exposure in aquatic organisms. Olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) were exposed to three different concentrations (0.5, 1.0 and 2.0, uM) of phenanthrene for four weeks. AChE activities in the brain, heart and eyes were documented. Inhibition of AChE activity was found significant in flounder treated with a concentration greater than $1.0 {\mu}M$ of phenanthrene. This indicates that a chronic exposure to phenanthrene induces damage in various organs (brain, heart and eyes) and changes of AChE activities might be a useful biomarker to assess the impacts induced by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH). Evidence from this study confirms that the measurement of AChE in the brain and eyes of flounder is a valuable tool that along with other biomarkers can maximize an ecotoxicologists' confidence in assessing the impacts of oil and PAH pollution in the aquatic environment.

PAHs의 용해도와 생분해에 미치는 비이온계 계면활성제의 영향 (The Effect of Nonionic Surfactants on the Solubility and Biodegradation of PAHs in Soil Slurry)

  • The effects of surfactants affecting polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon(PAHs) solubility and biodegradation in soil slurry were investigated. The critical micelle concentration(CMC) values of surfactants used in this study were 12.7mg/L(Brij 30), 13.4mg/L(Tween 80), 13.6mg/t(Triton X-100). The solubility of PAH increased as the Hydrophile-Lipophile Balance(HLB) value of surfactant decrease. At surfactant biodegradation and toxicity experiement using respirometer, Brij 30 did not show any toxic effect and substrate inhibition upon the level of 1.5g/L. Also, biodegradation of Brij 30 gave no reduction on the phenanthrene biodegradation rate. When the desorption rate of phenanthrene between sand and clay is compared, lower percentage of phenanthrene was desorbed at clay because of the larger surface aera and higher organic content of clay. At the biodegradation experiments of phenanthrene in soil slurry phase, more than 90% of initial phenanthrene adsorbed onto both sand and clay were biodegraded by phenanthrene- acclimated cultures.

일개 농촌지역의 초등학생과 주민에서 다환성 방향족 탄화수소와 톨루엔 노출이 요중 Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substance 농도에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Exposure to Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons or Toluene on Thiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substance Level in Elementary School Children and the Elderly in a Rural Area)

  • Objectives : Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and toluene have been reported to induce reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress. This study was performed to investigate the effects of low level exposure to PAHs or toluene on the lipid peroxidation level in elementary school children and the elderly in a rural area. Methods : Forty seven elementary school children and 40 elderly people who were living in a rural area and not occupationally exposed to PAH or toluene were the subjects of this study. Information about active or passive smoking and diet was obtained using a self-administered questionnaire. The urinary 1-hydroxypyrene (1-OHP), 2-naphthol, hippuric acid and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) concentrations were measured, and these values were corrected with the urinary creatinine concentration. Results : In school children, the geometric means of the urinary 1-OHP, 2-naphthol, hippuric acid and TBARS levels were $0.02\;{\mu}mol/mol$ creatinine, $0.47\;{\mu}mol/mol$ creatinine, 0.14 g/g creatinine and $0.95\;{\mu}mol/g$ creatinine, respectively. Those values for the elderly were $0.07{\mu}mol/mol$ creatinine, $1.87{\mu}mol/mol$ creatinine, 0.11 g/g creatinine and $1.18\;{\mu}mol/g$ creatinine, respectively. The mean levels of urinary 1-OHP, 2-naphthol and TBARS were significantly higher in the elderly subjects than in the children. The urinary TBARS level was not correlated with the urinary 1-OHP, 2-naphthol and hippuric acid, but they were correlated with the age of the subjects. Conclusions : These results suggest that low level inhalation exposure to PAH or toluene does not markedly increase lipid peroxidation, and age is a significant determinant of lipid peroxidation.

Strong Haze Influence on the 3-micron Emission Features of Saturn

  • Since the detection of 3.3-micron PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon) and 3.4-micron aliphatic hydrocarbon features in the spectra of Titan (Bellucci et al. 2009; Kim et al. 2011) and Saturn (Kim et al. 2012), respectively, the 3.3-micron feature of gaseous CH4 has been thought to be still the important spectral feature in the 3-micron absorption structures of Titan and Saturn. However, the analyses of the 3.3-and 3.4-micron emission structures of Saturn revealed that the influence of the gaseous CH4 on the structures is rather minimal (Kim et al. 2019). We present synthetic spectra of gaseous CH4, and the PAH and aliphatic haze particles in order to show the degree of influence of their spectra on the 3.3-and 3.4-micron emission structures of Saturn, and we compare these synthetic spectra with currently available observations. We constructed these synthetic spectra using newly developed radiative transfer equations. These equations are able to address detailed radiative processes in the atmospheres containing various gases and haze particles. We expect these radiative transfer equations can also be widely applied to the investigation of radiative transfer processes and the analyses of the spectra of celestial objects such as the Earth, the Moon, planets, and interstellar nebulae.

담배 연기 내 PAH의 유리입자에 대한 흡착거동 - 플라즈마 고분자 중합 코팅 영향 (Adsorption Behavior of PAHs in Cigarette Smoke on Glass Beads - Effect of Plasma Polymerization Coating)

  • Glass beads (GBs) were modified via plasma polymerization coatings in order to enhance the adsorption of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in cigarette smoke and activated carbons (ACs) were also utilized for comparative purposes. First, GBs and ACs were subjected to surface modification via plasma polymerization coating of acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, 1,3-diaminopropane, thiophene or dimethylphosphite with a RF plasma (13.56 MHz) generator. Next, their adsorption behavior was evaluated with a home-made 4-port smoking machine by collecting the total particulate matters (TPMs) on a Cambridge filter pad, followed by the separation of PAHs via solid phase extraction and analysis with GC/MS. Finally, the plasma polymerization coatings were analyzed by FT-IR/ATR to elucidate the adsorption mechanism, while the topology of the modified GBs and ACs were studied by FE-SEM.
