  • In the solid freeform fabrication (SFF) system using selective laser sintering (SLS), polyamide-12 powder is currently recognized as general material. In this study, some kinds of polyamide-6 powders with different shape and particlesize were fabricated to investigate the formability, the microstructure and mechanical properties. Also, to develop a more elaborate and rapid system, this study employs a new SLS device with a 3-axis dynamic focusing scanner system instead of the existing fe lens used in commercial SLS. Polyamide-6 powders having the average size of 100 m were treated thermally in order to keep the spherical symmetry in shape. These polyamide-6 powders were mixed with polyamide-12 powders having the average size of 50 m to give the bimodal distribution of size. These mixed powders showed the better fabrication in the selective laser sintering process because the smaller particles of polyamide-11 played an important role in the compact packing of powders by filling the void space between the large particles of polyamide-6. Also, Experiments have performed to evaluate the effect of a scanning path and sintering parameters by fabricating the various 3D objects.

  • Polyamide12 (PA12) is blended with ethylene propylene diene rubber (EPDM) at various compositions in the presence of maleated EPDM (mEPDM) to afford blend materials having the characteristics of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). The EPDM/PA12 melt-blends are further irradiated with electron-beam (e-beam) at 0~100 kGy dosage, yielding selective crosslinking between EPDM chains while retaining melt-processibility originated from PA12 phase. mEPDM acts as a compatibilizer and affords additional improvements in mechanical properties of the EPDM/PA12 blend. With 25 kGy of e-beam irradiation and mEPDM, the EPDM/PA12 blends successfully exhibit TPE behaviors with reasonable elastomeric and mechanical properties.

  • Additive manufacturing process technology, known as the 3D printing process, is expanding its utilization from simple model realization to commercialized part production based on continuous material development. Recently, research and development have been actively carried out to fabricate lightweight and high-strength parts using polymers, such as polyamide (polyamide), which is a high-strength engineering plastic material. In this study, the Izod impact characteristics were analyzed for polyamide 12 (PA12) materials. For the specimen production, selective laser sintering process technology, which has excellent mechanical properties of finished products, was applied. In addition, PA12 and glass bead reinforced PA12 materials were produced. The specimens were classified according to the production direction on the production platform, and each specimen was subjected to an Izod test at test temperatures of $-25^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and $60^{\circ}C$. As a result, the impact strength of PA12 and glass bead-reinforced PA12 of vertical direction specimens were 48.8% and 16.3% lower than those of the parallel specimens at a $25^{\circ}C$ test temperature and the impact strength of parallel specimens was improved by 46.5% and 20.4% at a test temperature of $60^{\circ}C$ compared to that at $-25^{\circ}C$.

  • With the rapid increase in seawater desalination, the importance of boron rejection is rising. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of hydrophilic compounds on surface modification to maximize water flux and increase boron rejection. First, polyamide active layer was fabricated by interfacial polymerization of polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane with M-phenylenediamine (MPD) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) to obtain Control polyamide membrane. Next, D-gluconic acid (DGCA) and D-gluconic acid sodium salt (DGCA-Na) were synthesized with glutaraldehyde (GA) and hydrochloric acid (HCl) by modifying the surface of Control polyamide membrane. XPS analysis was carried out for the surface analysis of the synthesized membrane, and it was confirmed that the reaction of surface with DGCA and DGCA-Na compounds was performed. Also, FE-SEM and AFM analysis were performed for morphology measurement, and polyamide active layer formation and surface roughness were confirmed. In the case of water flux, the membrane fabricated by the surface modification had a value of 10 GFD or less. However, the boron rejection of the membranes synthesized with DGCA and DGCA-Na compounds were 94.38% and 94.64%, respectively, which were 12.03 %p and 12.29 %p larger than the Control polyamide membrane, respectively.

  • Exhaustion increase using cationic dyes on polyamide fibers are not easy work due to the limited amounts of the functional end groups(-COOH) in the substrates. Therefore, to enhance dye exhaustion, polyamide fibers are required to be modified onto desired surface properties of the fibers using anionic bridging agent. In this study, synthetic tanning agent for pre-treatment finishing and cationic dye(berberine chloride) for dyeing of polyamide fibers were used. For surface modification, polyamide fibers were pre-treated with synthetic tanning agent at various concentrations and temperatures. The increased concentration and temperatures of synthetic tanning agents had resulted in exhaustion increase. The modified polyamide substrates skewed increased cationic dyeing exhaustions and the corresponding dyeing results from treated samples represented higher exhaustion properties than those of non-treated counterpart. The increased dyeing effects of cationic dye can be attributed to the supplied ionic interaction and electrostatic attraction sites on the surface of polyamide substrates.

  • The use of 3D printing (Additive Manufacturing) technology has expanded from initial model production to the mass production of parts in the industrial field based on the continuous research and development of materials and process technology. As a representative polymer material for 3D printing, the polyamide-based material, which is one of the high-strength engineering plastics, is used mainly for manufacturing parts for automobiles because of its light weight and durability. In this study, the specimens were fabricated using Selective Laser Sintering, which has excellent mechanical properties, and the flexural characteristics were analyzed according to the temperature of the two types of polyamide 12 and glass bead reinforced PA12 materials. The test specimens were prepared in the directions of $0^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $90^{\circ}$ based on the work platform, and then subjected to a flexural test in three test temperature environments of $-25^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and $60^{\circ}C$. As a result, PA12 had the maximum flexural strength in the direction of $90^{\circ}$ at $-25^{\circ}C$ and $0^{\circ}$ at $25^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. The glass bead-reinforced PA12 exhibited maximum flexural strength values at all test temperatures in the $0^{\circ}$ fabrication direction. The tendency of the flexural strength changes of the two materials was different due to the influence of the plane direction of the lamination layer depending on the type of stress generated in the bending test.

  • The application of 3D printing technology is expanding due to the production of the complex-shape parts and the one-step manufacturing process. Moreover, various technical solutions in 3D printing are emerging through continuous research and development. Representative technologies include SLS technology, in which a desired area is sintered and laminated by irradiating a powder-type material with a laser. In addition, high-performance engineering plastic parts are being manufactured in increasing numbers. In this study, tensile specimens were fabricated from polyamide 12, a widely available polymer, and the glass bead-reinforced polyamide 12. The specimen-build orientation was divided into 0°, 45°, and 90° on the fabrication platform, and the tensile test temperature was -25℃, 25℃, and 60℃. The test results showed that the tensile modulus of both materials decreases as the build orientation becomes closer to 90°. In addition, the tensile strength of glass bead-reinforced PA12 showed more dependence on the build orientation than PA12. In addition, the tensile modulus and tensile strength decreased with increasing test temperature.

  • This paper deals with the fabrication of 4 poles anisotropic Sr·ferrite plastic magnets. After Polyamide6 and polyamlde12 are kneaded respectively with Sr·ferrite powder, silane coupling and calcium stearate of lwt% are added for coating and pelleting. The pelleted specimen are injection-moulded under the magnetic field using 4 poles mould. For 4 poles anisotropic Sr·ferrite plastic magnets with polyamide6 as a binder, the surface magnetic flux density distribution is +943.8∼-943.87kG and the deviation is 5.2%, where as with polyamide12, the distribution is +1040.9∼-1040.9kG and the deviation is 5.4%. It shows that both of the magnet distributions are stable. As the results of the experiments, we find 4 poles anisotropic Sr·ferrite magnets have good properties as the materials appropriate for manufacturing magnet type synchronous motors.

  • Background: Fibers in concrete resist the growth of cracks and enhance the postcracking behavior of structures. The addition of fibers into a conventional reinforced concrete can improve the structural and functional performance of safety-related concrete structures in nuclear power plants. Methods: The influence of fibers on the ultimate internal pressure capacity of a prestressed concrete containment vessel (PCCV) was investigated through a comparison of the ultimate pressure capacities between conventional and fiber-reinforced PCCVs. Steel and polyamide fibers were used. The tension behaviors of conventional concrete and fiber-reinforced concrete specimens were investigated through uniaxial tension tests and their tension-stiffening models were obtained. Results: For a PCCV reinforced with 1% volume hooked-end steel fiber, the ultimate pressure capacity increased by approximately 12% in comparison with that for a conventional PCCV. For a PCCV reinforced with 1.5% volume polyamide fiber, an increase of approximately 3% was estimated for the ultimate pressure capacity. Conclusion: The ultimate pressure capacity can be greatly improved by introducing steel and polyamide fibers in a conventional reinforced concrete. Steel fibers are more effective at enhancing the containment performance of a PCCV than polyamide fibers. The fiber reinforcementwas shown to bemore effective at a high pressure loading and a lowprestress level.
