Determination of Interception Flow by Pollution Load Budget Analysis in Combined Sewer Watershed - Analysis of Pollution Load Budget in Watershed - (오염부하 물질수지 분석을 통한 합류식 하수관거 적정 차집용량 결정(I) -오염부하 물질수지 분석-)

  • The objective of this study is to obtain adequate intercepting flow during wet weather conditions in combined sewer system. Two study sites are selected under considering different population density, one is developed area with heavy urbanization. Another is recently developing area. In the analysis of field investigation, SS was most significant in initial flushing effects compared with other factors and showed the result with the order of COD, TP, TN. As compared with event mean concentration(EMC) of runoff, BOD, TN and TP showed high concentrations in wide area with relatively large population density. It is by the reason that much pollution load was discharged to receiving water from urbanized area during wet period. According to results of storm-water modeling, 53% of total COD and 52% of total SS pollution load were discharged to receiving water by overflow than intercepting capacity in middle population density site. Also, in the urbanized area, pollution load was discharged to receiving water by 49% of total COD and 77% of total SS. These results can be applied to setup for pollution load flow(budget) generation, collection, treatment and discharging in order to obtain adequate intercepting flow.

Some Universal Characteristics of Intertidal Bacterial Diversity as Revealed by 16S rRNA Gene-Based PCR Clone Analysis

  • A 16S rDNA clone library was generated to investigate the bacterial diversity in intertidal sediment from the coast of the Yellow Sea, P. R. China. A total of 102 clones were sequenced and grouped into 73 OTUs using a phylogenetic approach. The sequenced clones fell into 11 bacterial lineages: Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Planctomycetes, Chloroflexi, Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, Spirochaetes, and candidate divisions of BRCl, OP3, and OP1l. Based on a phylogenetic analysis of these bacteria, together with the ten most closely related sequences deposited in the GenBank, it was concluded that intertidal bacteria are most likely derived from marine bacteria with a remarkable diversity, and some are particularly abundant in intertidal sediment.

A Study on Selection Method of Management Watershed for Total Pollution Load Control at Tributary (지류총량관리를 위한 관리유역 선정 방법에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of Total Pollution Load Control at Tributary is to obtain maximum improvement effect of water quality through finding the most impaired section of water-body and establishing the proper control measure of pollutant load. This study was implemented to determine the optimal management of reach, period, condition, watershed, and pollution source and propose appropriate reduction practices using the Load duration curve (LDC) and field monitoring data. With the data of measurement, LDC analysis shows that the most impaired condition is reach V (G4~G5), E group (flow exceedance percentile 90~100%) and winter season. For this reason, winter season and low flow condition should be preferentially considered to restore water quality. The result of pollution analysis for the priority reach and period shows that agricultural nonpoint source loads from onion and garlic culture are most polluting. Therefore, it is concluded that agricultural reuse of surface effluent (storm-water runoff with non-point sources) and low impact farming that includes reducing fertilization and controlling the height of drainage outlet are efficient water quality management for this study watershed.

  • The air pollution problem caused by industrialization in recent years is attracting great attention to both the country and the people. Domestic wide-area air pollution information is provided to the public through public data nationally, but regional air pollution information with different environmental variables is very insufficient. Therefore, in this study, we design and implement an air pollution analysis and prediction system based on regional environmental variables that can more accurately analyze and predict regional air pollution phenomena. In particular, the proposed system accurately analyzes and provides regional atmospheric information based on environmental data measured locally and public big data, and predicts and presents future regional atmospheric information using artificial intelligence algorithms. Furthermore, through the proposed system, it is expected that local air pollution can be prevented by accurately identifying the cause of regional air pollution.

  • This study is intending to look into the status of the hitherto established local governments light pollution control ordinance, and to use the ordinance status as basic data of ordinance enactment related to light pollution in time of its establishment and revision in accordance with regional characteristics of each local government for the time to come. This study conducted this research in a total of 3-phase research methods. 1) This study inquired into the direction of the research plan through the theoretical consideration and analysis of the preceding researches after setting up research objectives according to research background and purpose. 2) Targeting 11 local governments which are enforcing the hitherto established ordinance, this study surveyed the status of the light pollution control ordinance. 3) This study carried out the contents analysis of the ordinance in the method of doing a comparative analysis of each provision of the ordinance according to local governments. It's hoped that on the basis of this research, local governments across the nation, which have not yet established the same ordinance, could minimize the damage to natural eco-system due to artificial lighting by promoting the urgent ordinance establishment suited for each region, and create human-oriented light environment by modifying various disorderly lighting environment.

Rainfall Effects on Discharged Pollution Load in Unit Watershed Area for the Management of TMDLs (수질오염총량관리 배출부하량에 대한 강우영향 분석연구)

  • Discharged pollution load for the management of Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) is calculated on the basis of rainfall data for reference year. Rainfall has an influence on discharged pollution load in unit watershed with combined sewer system. This study reviewed the status of discharged pollution load and rainfall conditions. We also investigated rainfall effects on discharged pollution load by analyzing change of the load in accordance with increase of rainfall. The change ratio of discharged pollution load was 18.6% while inflow load only 5.8% for 5 years from 2004 to 2008 in Daejeon district. The greatest rainfall and rain days were over 2 times than the least during the period. This change in rainfall could have great effect on discharged pollution load. The analysis showed that discharged pollution load increased 2.1 times in case rainfall increased 2 times and 1.2 times in case rain days increased 2 times. Rainfall effects, therefore, should be considered to make resonable evaluation of discharged pollution load in the assessment of annual performances.

Patterns on Sewer Transfer Flow for Rain Weather Period in the Area with Combined Sewer System for the Management of TMDLs (수질오염총량관리 합류식지역의 우기시 관거이송 변화유형)

  • Discharged pollution load is varied as rainfall changes in the area with combined sewer system. Changes in discharged pollution load are directly related with those of sewer transfer flow. Therefore, it is important to identify the pattern of sewer transfer flow for the analysis of changes in discharged pollution load. This study reviewed the type of distribution of sewer transfer flow for 17 sewage treatment plants and developed simple formular to estimate sewer transfer flow as rainfall changes. 11 facilities showed to have some relation with rainfall in the change of sewer transfer flow but 6 facilities to have no relation. Relationships between rainfall amount and sewer transfer flow showed that 6 facilities out of 11 had relatively strong relationships above R2=0.5, which were considered to be affected directly by rainfall changes. The formular which explain the relationship between rainfall and sewer transfer flow can be applied in the analysis of rainfall effects on discharged pollution load, therefore, the more appropriate evaluation will be done.

  • To estimate the soil quality of Miryang area, soil analysis were conducted according to the city and out of city of soil expenses at according to analysis components and heavy metal pollution of irradiation sampling sites. The through soil components the principal element about the 71% $SiO_2\;and\;Al_2O_3$, the pH of field area near the city center was lower than that of the other field area, which indicated that this acidification was probably attributed to the acid rain caused by the traffic exhaust gas such as $SO_x\;and\;NO_x$. Acidification was more severe in the field area than in the farming land. The concentration of five heavy metals such as Cu, Cd, Pb, As and Cr were found to be lower than the standard of soil pollution. An assessment using the SPI(Soil Pollution Index), which was developed to estimate an overall soil quality, was performed. Each SPS(Soil Pollution Score) were evaluated with the results of the data from this study. The soil quality of most area of Miryang land was determined to Class 1, which indicated that the soil was healthy.

  • Ran numerical analysis about simplicity warm current model (simple turbulence model) to examine closely distributed laying stress on NOx of contaminant that happen in downtown that building is massed and result is as following. Pollution displays class kind phenomenon striking in the building, class kind done pollution that show high density being mixed with pollution that happen in vehicles being flowed in again side know can. Divide velocity vector of pollution and density change to ancient city and did numerical analysis. Because NOx is flowed in diversion of water neighborhood by continuous this kind in Godo 20m point, density showed density of $0.0907mg/m^3s$, and can know that Banryuhyeon that Pollution strikes in the building at ancient city 30m point is decreased and approaches with freedom flowing without cooperation (cavity) phenomenon remarkably. Because pollution strikes in the building at distance shaft 383m point, class kind do phenomenon that know appeared notedly Nopeungeonmulgwanat between building pollution density $0.067mg/m^3$ head of a families high appear.
