  • Although academic library budgets have been decreasing, the rates of print and electronic journal subscription price have consistently increased. In response to this, as part of efforts to ensure access to foreign academic materials, the Ministry of Education and Korea Education & Research Information Service (KERIS) have initiated and operated Foreign Research Information Center (FRIC) since 2006, pursuing shared acquisition and sharing of foreign print journals. This study investigates the roles/values, issues raised by stakeholders, improvements in services, and new service elements of FRIC through the in-depth interviews with librarians in charge of FRIC in addition to examining its current state. The findings show that FRIC has contributed to sharing of academic materials and to promoting research. However, it was also found that the five types of stakeholders (i.e., the Ministry of Education/KERIS, universities/libraries, users, FRICs, and publishers/agencies) have diverse issues and problems with FRIC. Therefore, this study makes some suggestions to address the issues in terms of policy, system, management, and service.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to propose useful suggestions by analyzing the causal relationship between technology-based self-service for smart airport and intention to use. Methods: The data was collected by using the structured questionnaires. The proposed research model is tested using 231 valid questionnaires by R.3.2.1 plspm package. Results: The results of this study are as follows; the effecting factors of technology based self service for introducing smart airport, it was found that the effects of personal innovativeness and enjoyment and responsiveness, social impact were significant for acceptance and personal innovativeness was not significant on perceived usefulness. This study suggests significant factors on the implementation of smart airports and technology-based self-service. It also introduced new technologies in the future by looking at various characteristic factors that affect the intention of using technology-based self-service to promote smart airports. Conclusion: Airports and aviation industries need to have easy access to the airport's technology-based self-services to build a successful smart airport and create an environment that can be used appropriately at the time the customer wants. Also when customers use technology-based self-service devices, they should consider to maximize the positive emotions (emotional values such as pleasure or fun) that customers feel.

  • The current 7th National Mathematics Curriculum had been developed as a learner-centered curriculum and begun to apply to high school since 2002. This paper discusses issues related to the high school mathematics curriculum application into high school. The mathematics curriculum for grades 11 and 12 was developed primarily as a learner-centered one to provide five elective courses according to the needs of students based on their future occupation and attitudes. Discussion starts with the differences of the five elective courses: the three of them have dependent and sequential structure and the two are totally different with regards to their levels of difficulty and the content they span. It is claimed that the frameworks of the 2005 National Ability Test for the College Entrance and the minimal enrollment requirements of several influential colleges' admission policy make the high school mathematics education very rigid, unflexible, and anti-educational. Several suggestions to recover and imp-rove the high school mathematics education and the spirit of the 7th curriculum are presented.

  • Although excessive intake of sodium is known to cause various diseases and threaten public health and policies for reducing overconsumption of sodium are being implemented, the theoretical research on sodium intake is incomplete. This study attempted to provide a policy basis by examining whether or not planned behavior theory, which is a typical health communication theory used to describe health-related behaviors, can be applied to explain sodium intake behavior. Especially, sodium ingestion behaviors were compared using the theory of actions planned for men and women as well as young people, middle-aged, and elderly persons, who are predicted to show differences in eating habits. In this study, questionnaires were prepared to measure the daily eating habits of subjects and subordinate factors of planned behavior theory: behavioral beliefs, outcome expectations, normative beliefs, compliance motivation, and control beliefs. Questionnaires were given to 93 college students and their families. As a result of the difference analysis and path analysis of the questionnaire responses, the following suggestions were obtained. First, age difference is more obvious than sex difference in terms of low salt intentions. For example, older people are healthier than younger people in terms of eating habits and health concerns. Second, the elderly are more likely to practice the low-salt formula when they are provided information on the benefits and effects of the low-salt formula compared to younger ones. Third, systematic efforts are needed to promote a culture that emphasizes the health benefits of a low salt diet rather than providing piecemeal information on the advantages and effects of a low salt diet.

  • The importance of users on library catalogs cannot be overemphasized. However little is verified about how well the users' needs have been met. The purpose of this research is to explore the characteristics and differences between user groups on library catalogs, and to draw implications for follow-up research. To the end, this research classified the users into four groups: elementary students, middle and high school students, college students, and the general public. Investigated are unique features and differences in searching behavior on library catalogs between the four groups. The data was collected through a survey with 544 users, and analyzed for both frequency test and Chi-square test. The major research results shows that there were statistically meaningful differences between the four groups. Also discussed are several suggestions for more in-depth research.
