  • The purpose of the present study is to examine the effect of civic cooperation with the police on the number of crime that the police must solve by conducting simulation based on system dynamics. The study sets police oriented-policing model and police-citizen cooperative model to investigate the effect of civic cooperation with the police. As a result of the simulation, the police oriented-policing model shows that the number of crime that police must solve is increasing over time, while the police-citizen cooperative model shows that the number of crime that must be solved by the police is keeping it stable in the increase of crimes. Comparing both models, civic cooperation with the police is more effective in reducing or deterring crime than police oriented-policing activity. The study proves that building cooperative relationship between citizens and the police can become a strategic method for controlling crime effectively without a rapid increase in police finance. It is meaningful in terms of presenting a dynamic change of interaction for reducing crimes between civic cooperation with the police and policing activity of the police over time.

The primary purpose of this study is to suggest the method to improve the policing service quality of police and advance sound security industry by analyzing the case of close mutual cooperation system between police and private security of USA, which can be called the best country in the field of private security. When considering the cases of USA synthetically, we can know that as the most basic characteristic, the discussion over actual cooperation method is performed on the basis of positive recognition over mutual existence of police or private security. It means that the mutual relationship is based on the basic recognition over partner relationship to meet citizen's desire for safety. While reviewing the cases of USA, Korea shall refer to the fact that social safety activities of advanced countries display effects because of many factors such as various mutual cooperation programs between police and private security, efforts of local government, high quality of private security, reliance of citizen and general understanding of police, private security and citizen to solve crime problem. As shown in the review of USA cases, when considering the fact that the mutual cooperation between police and private security is performed in the level of autonomous police, Korea shall perform autonomous police system to provide better policing service, which is close to citizen.

  • There has been discussions and investigation on the nexus between religion and citizen's supports for suicide attacks and terrorist groups conducting such acts. In terms of the relationship, there were two potent hypotheses attempting to explain the process and mechanism of the relationship: religious belief hypothesis and coalitional commitment hypothesis. previous studies examined these hypotheses have been carried out across different cultural, religious, and political contexts. Until today, however, there are still lack of concrete evidence, which is generated from empirical studies, supportive evidence for any of these hypotheses. Therefor this study aims to investigate the association between religion and popular support for suicide attacks by using a survey data collected from three middle east countries, Egypt, Morocco, and Pakistan. In analysis, a step-wised regression analysis conducted with a set of variety of variables considered to be related with the association. This study found that variables reflecting religious belief hypothesis, such as prayer to God, religious devotion were unrelated to support for suicide attacks. Yet, prayer time predicted reduced supports for suicide attacks. Further, attendance at religious services, thought to enhance coalitional commitment, predicted support for suicide attacks. Yet, it showed negative association with support for suicide attacks. These findings suggest that regular attendance at religious services and regular prayer have combined effects reducing on the willing to support for suicide martyrdom. However, this study findings affirmatively support for neigher religious belief hypothesis nor coalitional commitment hypothesis. Instead, it suggests the needs for further research examination on the relationship as well as corrections of these hypotheses. Finally, Implications for the research findings for preventing suicide attacks are discussed.
