Twisted Nematic LC Modulator for TFT Array Inspection

  • A twisted nematic type liquid crystal electro-optic modulator (TN-LC modulator) was developed. The modulator used single polarizer and the reflection on-off ratio was maximized by optimization of twist angle and retardation of liquid crystal cell. The TNLC modulator shows better sensitivity and response time than conventional liquid crystal modulator.

  • We measured small optical beam deflection in an image rotating Sagnac interferometer. We used a weak value measurement scheme that involves a pre-selection, weak perturbation, and a post-selection procedure to obtain the amplified value of beam deflection. The amplification factor of the measured beam deflection varied from 11 to 63 depending on the settings of the post-selection polarizer in front of the photodetector and the settings of polarization compensator in the interferometer.

  • In this paper, the principle of devices which can magnify images without distorting the images is described. When the device is put on a smart phones, viewers can see the magnified images. Magnified images can be few 100 times bigger than the original images. Therefore, viewers can see movie theater size images with the device put on a smart phone. Two different schemes are explained in the paper and one realization of the device is presented. The device can be used in many different application areas.

  • We present the method to obtain four speckle patterns with relative phase shift of ${\pi}/2$ by passive devices such as wave plate and polarizer, and calculate the phase at each point of the speckle pattern in shearographic system using Wollaston prism. And, we analyzed the phase error caused using wave plates by Jones matrix.

  • We synthesized and analyzed the optical transfer function(OTF) of the modified triangular interferometer (MTI) using two-pupil synthesis method. Also, we presented the optimal MTI, which can obtain any bipolar function by combining two wave plates and a linear polarizer. By using the proposed MTI, we can obtain the complex hologram without bias and conjugate image.

  • The overall design of the optical isolator system is prepared for the 1 TW Nd pulse laser. Two pockels cell optical switches are employed to suppress the amplified spontaneous emission and the backward reflection. The role of two Farady rotators is to protect the laser system from the light amplified after back reflection. One saturable absorber dye and one liquid crystal polarizer/isolator will also serve as optical isolator.

  • 1.06$mu extrm{m}$의 파장을 가지는고출력 레이저용으로서 Front surface polarizer 형태를 갖는 polarizing beam splitter 의 박막계를 박막의 증수를 변화시켜가면서 beam의 입사각 30$^{\circ}$와 45$^{\circ}$에 대해서 설계하엿다. 박막 유전체로써 SiO2와 TiO2를 선택하여 그 두 물질의 교차증으로서 가장 효과적이고 두께 오차에 대해서 안정한 박막을 구하였다.
