다중 편파모드 방식 레이더에 의한 콘크리트 터널 라이닝 배면공동의 형상추정 (Estimation of Shape of Voids behind Concrete Tunnel Linings using Microwave Polarization Radar)

  • The presence of voids behind tunnel linings results in their deterioration. One proposed method of effectively detecting such voids by non-destructive means is radar. This research is devoted to quantitatively evaluating the efficiency of such non-destructive tests with radar. As a foundation to this ongoing research, which aims to acquire directional information and estimate the shape of specific voids using radar of three-dipole antenna type, an investigation of microwave polarization methods is carried out with various void orientations and void geometries. As the results, it is clarified that the response of microwave polarization modes depends on void geometry and thus there is a possibility of identifying the geometry and orientation of specific voids using radar of three-dipole antenna type.

LCD-based Polarized Stereoscopic Projection with Improved Light Efficiency

  • A new configuration of LCD projectors for polarized stereoscopic projection having no light loss in the polarization process is suggested. In the proposed system, two polarizing filters that are employed in the conventional LCD polarized stereoscopic projection system causing additional light loss and image distortion are excluded by taking into account of polarization property of the LCD projector and image processing techniques. From some experimental results by using the Type-1 LCD projectors, light loss of the proposed system occurring in the polarization process is found to be zero.

  • With the development of technology, the display industry has been focusing on the development of new types of displays, such as bendable and wearable displays. However, the PVA/TAC polarizing film used in the manufacturing of a normal display is associated with low luminance and low efficiency. If the existing polarization film is replaced with a wire grid polarizer, it is possible to reduce the thickness significantly. Moreover enhanced brightness can also be expected. This study confirms the optical properties of the WGP through a simulation.

In the proposed system, two polarizing filters that are employed in the conventional LCD polarized stereoscopic projection system causing additional light loss and image distortion are excluded by taking into account of polarization property of the LCD projector and image processing techniques. From some experimental results by using the Type-1 LCD projectors of NEC MT 1060R, light loss of the proposed system occurring in the polarization process is found to be zero and the resultant stereoscopic video image projected from this system is also found to be 213%, 75% and 300% brighter than those projected from the conventional Type-1 LCD projector-based, Type-2 LCD projector-based and Type-3 projector-based systems, respectively.

  • The polarization gratings were fabricated in chalcogenide $As_{40}Ge_{10}Se_{15}S_{35}$ thin film applicable to a medium of the polarization holography and their diffraction efficiencies$(\eta)$ were monitored by real-time measurement. The polarization gratings prepared consisted of the multi-layer thin film system. As a method to improve the $\eta$, we have investigated its change for the field effect. As the results, the value of $\eta$ strongly depended on the voltage applied to the film and the maximum value, $\eta_{max}$ was enhanced to be about 4 times in comparison with that of not biased sample. In addition, an increase in the $\eta$ can be estimated to be due to additional creation of new defects caused by the electric field across the film.

  • Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) have been gaining academic/industrial attention due to the unique high efficiency and minimized pollution emission. SOFCs are an electrochemical system composed of dissimilar materials which operates at relatively high temperatures ranging from 800 to 1000oC. The cell performance is critically dependent on the inherent properties and integration processing of the constituents, a cathode, an electrolyte, an anode, and an interconnect in addition to the sealing materials. In particular, the gas transport, ion transport, and by-product removal also affect the cell performance, in terms of open cell voltages, and cell powers. In particular, the polarization of cathode materials is one of the main sources which affects the overall function in SOFCs. Up to now, there have been studies on the materials design and microstructure design of the component materials. The current work reports the effect of thin film processing on cathode polarization in solid oxide fuel cells. The polarization issues are discussed in terms of dc- and ac-based electrical characterizations. The potential of thin film processing to the applicability to SOFCs is discussed.

친환경 유기화합물(NaDDC)에 의한 90Cu10NiFe합금의 부식억제 연구 (Studies on Corrosion inhibition of 90Cu10NiFe Alloy by Eco-Friendly Organic Compound ; Sodium Diethyl Dithio Carbamate(NaDDC))

  • The improved properties of corrosion for 90Cu10NiFe alloy in natural seawater were explained by sodium diethyl dithio carbamate(NaDDC), namely organic compound, which is reagent for heavy metal extractions of waste water. The efficiency of NaDDC as corrosion inhibitor for 90Cu10NiFe alloy has been investigated in seawater after immersion in various concentrations of NaDDC solutions for 12~36hrs at pH 8.2 by weight loss test and electrochemical techniques including potentiodynamic polarization and SEM-EDS measurements. The results showed that the corrosion resistance of 90Cu10NiFe alloy improves with the increasing concentration of NaDDC but it did not improves with increasing time any more, so the highest inhibition efficiency was 93% at 100mg/L, 36hrs. The results obtained from weight losses and corrosion rates in polarization curve measurements were in good agreement. Therefore, it showed that NaDDC is a good inhibitor for copper corrosion of 90Cu10NiFe alloy.

  • Rib 형태의 전송구조로 구성된 편광 무의존성 방향성 결합기(DC)와 다중모드 간섭결합기(MMI)의 설계특성을 종방향 모드 전송선로 해석법(L-MTLT)을 이용하여 정확하게 비교 분석하였다. 두 전송모드들의 결합특성에 의존하는 편향 무의존성 DC 소자를 이용하여 다중모드들의 결합과 간섭특성을 나타내는 MMI 결합기가 설계될 수 있음을 보였다. 또한, 편향 무의존성 DC와 MMI 소자들의 결합효율을 결합길이와 파장의 변화에 따라 자세하게 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과를 기반으로 광통신용 소자에서 필터로 널리 사용 가능한 Bragg 격자구조가 집적된 편향 무의존성 DC와 MMI를 설계하고 그 필터특성을 처음으로 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과, TE와 TM 모드들 사이의 결합길이가 같도록 설계한 DC는 MMI보다 편광 무의존성 필터링 특성에 있어서 더욱 좋은 성능을 나타냈다. 그러나, 편광무의존성 결합길이가 현저하게 작은 MMI가 DC보다 집적소자 소형화를 위하여 더욱 좋은 소자임을 보였다.

곡면형 도파로를 사용한 편광 무의존성 방향성 결합기의 구현 (Implementation of Polarization-Insensitive Directional Coupler using Curved Waveguides)

  • 등각변환 해석법과 종방향 모드 전송선로 이론을 이용하여 이중 샌드위치 Rib-형 도파로에 기초한 곡면형 편광 무의존성 방향성 결합기(PI-CDC)의 편광특성을 자세하게 탐구하였다. 제안한 곡면형 방향성 결합기의 편광 무의존성 조건을 얻기 위하여 곡면의 내부 반경 크기에 따라 변하는 quasi-TE 모드와 quasi-TM 모드의 결합길이와 결합효율을 분석하였다. 수치해석 결과, 수 마이크로미터 크기의 곡면형 편광 무의존성 방향성 결합기는 이중 샌드위치 층의 구조적, 물질적 변수들과 곡률반경을 잘 선택함으로써 구현할 수 있음을 보였다. 또한, 곡면형 편광 무의존성 방향성 결합기에서 전파하는 quasi-TE/TM 모드들의 분포 프로필을 분석하였고, 그 분석을 통하여 곡면이 전파특성에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 대하여 조사하였다.

전기화학적공정에서 질산성질소 제거효율 향상에 관한 연구 (Study on the Improvement of Nitrate Removal Efficiency in Multi-Step Electro-chemical Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 다단계 전기화학적 반응기를 이용하여 환원제의 투입, 전극의 종류, 수리학적 체류시간(HRT : Hydraulic Retention Time) 및 전류밀도 변화에 따른 질산성질소의 제거효율을 살펴보았다. 실험결과, 환원제 투입은 질산성질소 제거효율을 증가시켰으며 에너지투입량은 감소시켰다. 전극종류를 변화시켰을 경우, 질산성질소 제거효율 및 전류효율의 차이는 거의 없었으나 Zn 환원제의 회수를 위해 B-type(1단 : Pt-Zn, 2단 : Pt-Zn, 3단 : Pt-Zn, 4단 : Pt-Zn)을 선정하였다. 수리학적 체류시간 변화실험에서는 수리학적 체류시간과 무관하게 동일전류밀도를 공급한 실험과 수리학적 체류시간 변화에 따른 전류밀도 변화 실험 즉, 단위부피당 동일 전류량 공급 실험을 진행하였다. 실험 결과, 수리학적 체류시간과 전류밀도 변화에 의해 농도분극현상과 적용전류량의 부족현상이 발생하게 된다. 즉 수리학적 체류시간이 감소할수록 농도분극현상은 감소하지만 단위 부피당 적용전류량이 부족하게 된다. 따라서 수리학적 체류시간과 전류밀도 실험을 통해 적절한 운전조건을 도출할 수 있으며, 내부 스페이서의 설치로 확산을 증가시킬 경우 질소제거효율 및 에너지효율이 증가될 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.
