Closed-form Green's functions for transversely isotropic bi-solids with a slipping interface

  • Green's functions are obtained in exact closed-forms for the elastic fields in bi-material elastic solids with slipping interface and differing transversely isotropic properties induced by concentrated point and ring force vectors. For the concentrated point force vector, the Green functions are expressed in terms of elementary harmonic functions. For the concentrated ring force vector, the Green functions are expressed in terms of the complete elliptic integral. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the effect of anisotropic bi-material properties on the transmission of normal contact stress and the discontinuity of lateral displacements at the slipping interface. The closed-form Green's functions are systematically presented in matrix forms which can be easily implemented in numerical schemes such as boundary element methods to solve elastic problems in computational mechanics.

The Fluxless Wetting Properties of UBM-Coated Si-Wafer to the Pb-Free Solders (UBM이 단면 증착된 Si-Wafer에 대한 Pb-free 솔더의 무플럭스 젖음 특성)

  • The fluxless wetting properties of UBM-coated Si-wafer to the binary lead-free solders(Sn-Ag, Sn-Sb, Sjn-In, Sn0Bi) were estimated by wetting balance method. With the new wettability indices from the wetting curves of one side coated specimen, the wetting property estimation of UBM-coated Si-wafer was possible. For UBM of Si-chip, Au/Cu/Cr UBm was better than au/Ni/TI in the point of wetting time/ At general reflow process temperature, the wettability of high melting point solders(Sn-Sb, Sn-Ag) was better than that of low melting point one(Sn-Bi, Sn-In). The contact angle of the one side coated Si-plate to the solder could be calculated from the force balance equation by measuring the static state force and the tilt angle.

  • Gouge-free tool-path generation is an important issue in mold & die machining and researches on cutter interference avoidance can be found in many articles. One of the various methods is construction of tool-offset surface of cutter-location (CL) surface on which the cutter-center point (CL-point) locates. Provided that the CL surface is represented in a suitable form, cutter-interference avoidance can be performed without the burden of computing CL data for every cutter-contact (CC) point. In the paper, various methods of constructing a CL surface in the z-map form are presented, where z-map is a special form of discrete nonparametric representation in which the height values at grid points on the xy-plane are stored as a 2D array z[i,j].

  • A Twisting machine is to twist yarns for improving yarn stiffness. After twisting yarns, the twisting machine is winding yarn at a bobbin. Traverse cam is main part of winding yarn part. In other to improve twisting machine performance and stability, improve traverse cam part. Original displacement curves of traverse cam has two problems. One is that displacement curve has a vertex point the other is that velocity curve is discontinue point. So that, in this paper proposes a modified displacement curves of traverse cam and new shape design method of the traverse cam using the relative velocity method[1]. The relative velocity method calculates the relative velocity of the follower versus the cam at a center of roller, and then determines a contact point by using the geometric relationship and the kinematical constraints. Finally, we present to compare two designed cam. One is designed using original displacement curves the other is using modified displacement curve.

Characterization of the Stresses in the Luting Cement Layer Affected by Location of the Occlusal Points and Loading Direction on a Full Veneer Crown (유한요소법을 이용한 전부주조관의 교합점 위치와 하중방향이 시멘트층 내 응력에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to test effects of (1) where the occlusal contact points locate on a full veneer crown, and (2) which direction the contact forces are directed to, on the stresses within the luting cement layer that might suffer microfracture. A total of 27 finite element models were created for a mandibular first molar, combining 9 different locations of the occlusal contact points and 3 different loading directions. Type 3 gold alloy was used for crown material with a chamfer margin, and the luting cement material was glass ionomer cements in uniform thickness of $75{\mu}m$. Modeled crowns were loaded at 100 N. Different patterns in the cement stress were observed in the vicinity of the buccal and lingual margins. Whereas, the peak stress in buccal margin occurred approximately 0.5 mm away from the external surface, the highest stress in lingual margin was observed at approximately 1 mm. Significantly different distribution of stresses was recorded as a function either of the location of the occlusal contact points or of the loading direction. Higher stresses were produced by more obliquely acting load, and when the loaded point was in the vicinity of the cusp tip.

Trajectory Generation and Dynamic Control of Planar Biped Robots With Curved Soles

  • This paper proposes a locomotion pattern and a control method for biped robots with curved soles. First, since the contact point of a supporting leg may arbitrarily move back and forth on the ground, we derived the desired trajectory from a model called the Moving. Inverted Pendulum Model (MIPM) where the Zero Moment Point (ZMP) exists at the supporting point and can be moved intentionally. Secondly, a biped robot with curved soles is an under-actuated system since the supporting point contacting with a point on the ground has no actuator during the single supporting phase. Therefore, this paper proposes a computed-torque control for this under-actuated system using decoupled dynamic equations. A series of computer simulations with a 7-DOF biped robot with curved soles shows that the proposed walking pattern and control method are effective and allow the biped robot to walk fast and stably, and move more like human beings. Also, it is shown that the curved sole shape has superior energy consumption compared to flat soles, and greater efficiency in ascending and descending the stairs.

Fine-Motion Estimation Using Ego/Exo-Cameras

  • Robust motion estimation for human-computer interactions played an important role in a novel method of interaction with electronic devices. Existing pose estimation using a monocular camera employs either ego-motion or exo-motion, both of which are not sufficiently accurate for estimating fine motion due to the motion ambiguity of rotation and translation. This paper presents a hybrid vision-based pose estimation method for fine-motion estimation that is specifically capable of extracting human body motion accurately. The method uses an ego-camera attached to a point of interest and exo-cameras located in the immediate surroundings of the point of interest. The exo-cameras can easily track the exact position of the point of interest by triangulation. Once the position is given, the ego-camera can accurately obtain the point of interest's orientation. In this way, any ambiguity between rotation and translation is eliminated and the exact motion of a target point (that is, ego-camera) can then be obtained. The proposed method is expected to provide a practical solution for robustly estimating fine motion in a non-contact manner, such as in interactive games that are designed for special purposes (for example, remote rehabilitation care systems).

  • This paper is studied, as basic research for measuring the accurate fuel amount of the CNG tank by using the transmit-receive ultrasonic sensor, the receiving sensitivity according to changed the pressure inside the tank and the contact surface of the ultrasonic sensor is analyzed. Measurement was carried out while changing the contact surface of the tank and the sensor to three shapes of Point, Line, and Surface and charging the pressure in the tank at an interval of 1 bar from 0 bar to 5 bar. Experiment results, as the pressure in the tank increased the tendency of the received signal value of the ultrasonic sensor to decrease was confirmed. As the contact area between the tank and the sensor increased, the value of the received signal increased, but the noise also increased. The results of experiment, it is judged that accuracy can be improved by changing the contact surface of the sensor.

  • Glass-to-metal contact should be prevented in the design of any structural glass component. Because glass is extremely brittle and will fracture readily if even a small point load is applied. If the assembly includes a glass component supported by metallic structure, designers should provide a pliable interface of some kind between the two parts. But there happens high demand of glass-to metal contact in semiconductor industries due to adoption of dry cleaning process as one of the good solution to reduce running cost - carry out equipments cleaning with high corrosive and etching gas such as CF4 with keeping process temperature as the same as high service temperature. Therefore the quartz glass have to be received compression by direct contact with metal as the form of weight itself and vacuum pressure and fatigue by vibrations caused by process during the process. In this paper investigation will be carried out on fracture behavior of quartz glass contacted with metal directly under local load and fatigue given by process vibration with apparatus which can give $lox{\backslash}cal$ load and vibration through PZT ceramics to give guideline to prevent unintended fracture of quartz glass.

  • Most of mechanically jointed aircraft structures are always encountered the fretting damages on the contact surfaces between two jointed structural members or at the edges of fastener holes. The partial slip and contact stresses associated with fretting contact can lead to severe reduction in service lifetime of aircraft structures. Thus a critical need exists for predicting fretting crack initiation in mechanically jointed aircraft structures, which requires characterizing both the near-surface mechanics and intimate relationship with fretting parameters. In this point of view, a series of fretting fatigue specimen tests for 2024-T351 Al-alloy, have been conducted to validate a mechanics-based model for predicting fretting fatigue life. And included in this investigaion were elasto-plastic contact stress analyses using commercial FEA code to quantify the stress and strain fields in subsurface to evaluate the fretting fatigue crack initiation.
