In this study, the shapes of the wheel and rail are represented by using 3-dimensional surface functions with surface parameters and a 3-dimensional wheel-rail contact analysis is presented. A whole numerical solution of wheel-rail contact at tread and flange including 2-point contacts can be achieved with the proposed numerical algorithm. Kinematic characteristics such as variances of vertical displacement and roll angle, and variance of wheel radius difference for arbitrary yaw and lateral displacement of wheelset, are determined for the KTX wheel-rail pair as an example. The condition of yaw and lateral displacement occurring 2-point contacts to analyze derailment are compared between standard and worn wheels. Differences of contact characteristics between curved and straight rails are also analyzed.
The understanding the nature of occlusal tooth contacts of natural dentition is important for correct diagnosis and treatment of diseases developed in stomatognatic system. Several investigator have studied the distribution of tooth contacts in maximum intercuspation and have repored contact locations with respect to the tooth position. However, there are few report the variation of the occlusal contact point with change in each head position. This study analysed the number of occlusal contact point with change in each head position. 30 subject(male 17, female 13), who ahad natural occlusion and no symptoms of temporomandibular disorder, were selected. The numbers and patterns of tooth contact were recorded by silicone bite registration on stone model at four different head positions with head anguration gauge(from the supine to the upright position). The results obtained were as follows : 1. The numbers of total occlusal contact point on teeth increased to average 25, 29, 35, 42 points as head angulation was changed from the supine to the upright position against the ala-tragus line, and there was significant difference(P<0.05). 2. In the 19 subject(65%)of total 30 subject, the perforated point of the silicone bite indicated that the locus for the prime contact point moved mesially as the head angulation was changed from the supine to the upright position. 3. On the basis of the fact that the anterior occlusal contact point increase as head angulation changed from the supine to the upright position, we could find that the mandibular position is moved anteriorly.
An algorithm is proposed to determine the optimal contact forces of robotic hands, where the soft finger contact as well as the frictional point contact are considered. Especially, the algorithm can be efficiently applied to the case of multi-point contact by inner-link as well as fingertip. To show the validities of the algorithm, several numerical exampies are presented by employing a robotics hand with three fingers each of which has four joints.

With the local Hertz deformation on the contact point, the dynamic contact between a high-speed wheel and an elastic beam having a gap is numerically analyzed by solving the whole equations of motion of the wheel and the beam subjected to the contact condition. For the stability of the time integration the velocity and acceleration constraints as well as the displacement constraint are imposed on the contact point. Especially the acceleration contact condition on the gap is formulated, and it is demonstrated that the contact force variation computed by the velocity contact constraint or by the acceleration contact constraint agrees well with that computed by the displacement contact constraint. The numerical examples show that, when the wheel passes on the gap, the solution is governed by the stiffness of the local Hertzian deformation.
In case contact between point of contacts is not achieved well, contact resistance is grown, and by current concentration at current conducting contacts can weld. In order to decrease contact resistance between contacts in case of busbar, installing spring between fixed contact and moving contact. and then force on faying surface of contacts increase and contact resistance decrease. But, in case increase force of spring to widen contact area, operating force moving contact can grow, on the contrary force of spring is small, contact resistance becomes low. Therefore, need to optimize force and number of spring. position, and also need to examine force change on contact surface at point of contact moving. In this paper, dynamic kinetics analysis for force on faying surface of contacts is performed at unsteady state. It is showed to not uniform force on surface between contacts, and we can got more uniform force by means of change spring position.

This paper presents the study on the contact stress analysis of a pair of mating helical gears for turbo blower during rotation. Turbo blowers need high speed rotation of impeller in structure and high rate gear ratio. The use of helical gear indicated that noise was an important problem when the application involves high speeds and large power transmission. An example is presented to investigate the variation of contact stress on a pair of mating gears with contact positions. The variation of contact stress during rotation is compared with the contact stress at the lowest point of single tooth contact(LPSTC) and AGMA Equation for contact stress. In this study, the gear design considering the contact stress on a pair of mating gear is more severe than that of AGMA standard.

We performed the point contact spectroscopy on newly discovered superconductor $MgB_2$ thin films with Au tip. In the point contact spectroscopy of the metallic Sharvin limit, the differential conductance below the gap is twice as that above the gap by virtue of Andreev Reflection. After some surface cleaning processes of sample preparation such as ion-milling and wet etching, the obtained dI/dV versus voltage curves are relatively well fitted to the Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk (BTK) formalism. Gaps determined by this technique were distributed in the range of 3meV~ 8meV with the BCS value of 5.9meV in the weak coupling limit. We attribute these discrepancies to the symmetry of the gap parameter and the degradation of the surface of the sample. We also present the temperature dependence of the conductance vs voltage curve and thereby the temperature dependence of the gap.

Using multi wrapped copper by polyimide film for HTS transformer, the breakdown and V-t characteristics of two type models for turn-to-turn, one is point contact model, the other is surface contact model, were investigated under ac and impulse voltage at 77 K. A material that is Polyimide film (Kapton) 0.025 mm thickness is used for multi wrapping of the electrode. Statistical analysis of the results using Weibull distribution to examine the wrapping number effects on V-t characteristics under at voltage as well as breakdown voltage under ac and impulse voltage in $LN_2$ was carried. Also, survival analysis was performed according to the Kaplan-Meier method. The breakdown voltages for surface contact model are lower than that of the point contact model, because the contact area of surface contact model is wider than that of point contact model. At the same time, the shape parameter of the point contact model is a little bit larger than the of the surface contact model. The time to breakdown tn is decreased as the applied voltage is increased, and the lifetime indices slightly are increased as the number of layers is increased. According to the increasing applied voltage and decreasing wrapping number, the survival probability is increased.

A universal four-point contact measurement method, has an advantage of non-existence of contact resistance, is demonstrated by the experiments with carbon nanotubes and ZnO nanowire. Ti/Au and Pt are tried to compare the influence of contact resistance between two different metals. These metals are selected to make Ohmic contact and Schottky contact originated from their different work functions. For precise experiments, Ti/Au and Pt are separately evaporated to form double 'four-point contact electrodes' on CNTs or ZnO, and the voltage-current characteristics are measured. This method can be applied to universal resistivity measurement for nanotubes and nanowires.
As the public becomes concerned with looking younger and healthy, aesthetic considerations will become more relevant to dental treatment planning. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between interdental papilla existence and the distance from contact point to interdental alveolar crest in the maxillary anterior dentition of korean. Fifty-nine Korean adult consist of adults. 34 males and 25 females participated in the study. Papilla Index(PI) was recorded. The distance between contact point and interdental alveolar crest was measured by sounding with Williams probe. Measurement were carried out in 257 maxillary anterior interproximal area. The results showed that mean PI was 1.95 and mean distance between contact point and interdental alveolar crest was 5.07mm. The correlation between the papilla index and distance was negative and statistically significant(r=-0.819; p=0.000). A high negative correlation existed between PI and distance from contact point to alveolar crest. When the distance between contact point and alveolar crest was 4mm, the papilla got lost on a half of all cases. When the distance was 5mm, the papilla was present almost 11%. When the distance was 6mm, the papilla was present 4%. When the distance was 7mm or more, the papilla was lost in all cases.
