  • In this paper, I would like to explore the possibility that the nature of place assimilation can be captured in terms of the OCP within the Optimality Theory (Mccarthy & Prince 1999. 1995; Prince & Smolensky 1993). In derivational models, each assimilatory process would be expressed through a different autosegmental rule. However, what any such model misses is a clear generalization that all of those processes have the effect of avoiding a configuration in which two consonantal place nodes are adjacent across a syllable boundary, as illustrated in (1):(equation omitted) In a derivational model, it is a coincidence that across languages there are changes that have the result of modifying a structure of the form (1a) into the other structure that does not have adjacent consonantal place nodes (1b). OT allows us to express this effect through a constraint given in (2) that forbids adjacent place nodes: (2) OCP(PL): Adjacent place nodes are prohibited. At this point, then, a question arises as to how consonantal and vocalic place nodes are formally distinguished in the output for the purpose of applying the OCP(PL). Besides, the OCP(PL) would affect equally complex onsets and codas as well as coda-onset clusters in languages that have them such as English. To remedy this problem, following Mccarthy (1994), I assume that the canonical markedness constraint is a prohibition defined over no more than two segments, $\alpha$ and $\beta$: that is, $^{*}\{{\alpha, {\;}{\beta{\}$ with appropriate conditions imposed on $\alpha$ and $\beta$. I propose the OCP(PL) again in the following format (3) OCP(PL) (table omitted) $\alpha$ and $\beta$ are the target and the trigger of place assimilation, respectively. The '*' is a reminder that, in this format, constraints specify negative targets or prohibited configurations. Any structure matching the specifications is in violation of this constraint. Now, in correspondence terms, the meaning of the OCP(PL) is this: the constraint is violated if a consonantal place $\alpha$ is immediately followed by a consonantal place $\bebt$ in surface. One advantage of this format is that the OCP(PL) would also be invoked in dealing with place assimilation within complex coda (e.g., sink [si(equation omitted)k]): we can make the constraint scan the consonantal clusters only, excluding any intervening vowels. Finally, the onset clusters typically do not undergo place assimilation. I propose that the onsets be protected by certain constraint which ensures that the coda, not the onset loses the place feature.

  • The homogeneous road section is defined as one consisted of similar traffic characteristics focused on demand and supply. The criteria, in the aspect of demand, are the diverging rate and the ratio of green time to cycle time at signalized intersection, and distance between the signalized intersections. The criteria, in that or supply, are the traffic patterns such as traffic volume and its speed. In this study, the effective method to generate valuable data, pointing out the problems of removal method of obscure data, is proposed using data collected from Gonjiam IC to Jangji IC on the national highway No.3. Travel times are collected with licence matching method and traffic volume and speed are collected from detectors. Futhermore, the method of selecting homogeneous road section is proposed considering demand and supply aspect simultaneously. This method using outlier filtering algorithm can be applied to generate the travel time forecasting model and to revise the obscured of missing data transmitting from detectors. The point and link data collected at the same time on the rational highway can be used as a basis predicting the travel time and revising the obscured data in the future.

  • Recently, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Science and ICT are developing the Land Observation Satellite (CAS-500) to meet increased demand for high-resolution satellite images. Expected image products of CAS-500 includes precision orthoimage, Digital Surface Model (DSM), change detection map, etc. The quality of these products is determined based on the geometric accuracy of satellite images. Therefore, it is important to make precision geometric corrections of CAS-500 images to produce high-quality products. Geometric correction requires the Ground Control Point (GCP), which is usually extracted manually using orthoimages and digital map. This requires a lot of time to acquire GCPs. Therefore, it is necessary to automatically extract GCPs and reduce the time required for GCP extraction and orthoimage generation. To this end, the Precision Image Processing (PIP) System was developed for CAS-500 images to minimize user intervention in GCP extraction. This paper explains the products, processing steps and the function modules and Database of the PIP System. The performance of the System in terms of processing speed, is also presented. It is expected that through the developed System, precise orthoimages can be generated from all CAS-500 images over the Korean peninsula promptly. As future studies, we need to extend the System to handle automated orthoimage generation for overseas regions.

  • The trajectories of feature points can be defined by the correspondences between points in consecutive frames. The correspondence problem is known to be difficult to solve because false positives and false negatives almost always exist in real image sequences. In this paper, we propose a robust feature tracking algorithm considering incomplete trajectories such as entering and/or vanishing trajectories. The trajectories of feature points are determined by calculating the matching measure, which is defined as the minimum weighted Euclidean distance between two feature points. The weights are automatically updated in order to properly reflect the motion characteristics. We solve the correspondence problem as an optimal graph search problem, considering that the existence of false feature points may have serious effect on the correspondence search. The proposed algorithm finds a local optimal correspondence so that the effect of false feature point can be minimized in the decision process. The time complexity of the proposed graph search algorithm is given by O(mn) in the best case and O($m^2n$) in the worst case, where m and n arc the number of feature points in two consecutive frames. By considering false feature points and by properly reflecting motion characteristics, the proposed algorithm can find trajectories correctly and robustly, which has been shown by experimental results.

  • The aim of this study was to measure the suprathreshold taste intensity for NaCl, sucrose, citric acid, and quinine HCl in elderly Korean women using a whole-mouth, sip-and-spit procedure, employing the method of magnitude matching. The results were analysed in terms of aging, menopause, and salivary flow rate. 31 elderly women (mean age; $50.8{\pm}5.1$ years) and 30 young women (mean age; $25.1{\pm}1.71$ years) were included for the study. Subjects were instructed to give nonmodulus magnitude estimates to the intensities of five concentrations each of sucrose, NaCl, citric acid, and quinine HCl; distilled water; 6 loudness level of a 1,000-Hz tone, using the same 9-point intensity scale. Each of the 21 taste stimuli and 6 auditory stimuli are presented in random order twice. The auditory function is used to assess the absolute intensity function of the subject's taste system. The results were as follows; 1. Comparing to young women, elderly women showed decreased taste intensities for lower concentration solutions of NaCl and sucrose. However, other solutions didn't show any difference in taste intensities between young and elderly women. 2. There were not significant difference in perceived taste intensities for NaCl, sucrose, citric acid, and quinine HCl between menopause and pre-menopause women in elderly women group. 3. There were not significant difference in perceived taste intensities for NaCl, sucrose, and quinine HCl between low salivation women and high salivation women in elderly women group. 4. The low salivation women in elderly group showed higher taste intensity for low concentration citric acid than high salivation women.

  • Nitrides-on-silicon structures are considered to be an excellent candidate for unique design architectures and creating devices for high-power applications. Therefore, a lot of effort has been concentrating on growing high-quality III-nitrides on Si substrates, mostly Si(111) and Si(001) substrates. However, there are several fundamental problems in the growth of nitride compound semiconductors on silicon. First, the large difference in lattice constants and thermal expansion coefficients will lead to misfit dislocation and stress in the epitaxial films. Second, the growth of polar compounds on a non-polar substrate can lead to antiphase domains or other defective structures. Even though the lattice mismatches are reached to 16.9 % to GaN and 19 % to AlN and a number of dislocations are originated, Si(111) has been selected as the substrate for the epitaxial growth of nitrides because it is always favored due to its three-fold symmetry at the surface, which gives a good rotational matching for the six-fold symmetry of the wurtzite structure of nitrides. Also, Si(001) has been used for the growth of nitrides due to a possible integration of nitride devices with silicon technology despite a four-fold symmetry and a surface reconstruction. Moreover, Si(110), one of surface orientations used in the silicon technology, begins to attract attention as a substrate for the epitaxial growth of nitrides due to an interesting interface structure. In this system, the close lattice match along the [-1100]AlN/[001]Si direction promotes the faster growth along a particular crystal orientation. However, there are insufficient until now on the studies for the growth of nitride compound semiconductors on Si(110) substrate from a microstructural point of view. In this work, the microstructural properties of nitride thin layers grown on Si(110) have been characterized using various TEM techniques. The main purpose of this study was to understand the atomic structure and the strain behavior of III-nitrides grown on Si(110) substrate by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). Insight gained at the microscopic level regarding how thin layer grows at the interface is essential for the growth of high quality thin films for various applications.

  • Background: From January 2018, a policy was applied to differentially apply the co-payment for medical expenses of 15,000 won or more from 30% to 10%-30% for each medical fee. This policy lowers the burden on the medical use of the elderly, and it is necessary to analyze the effect of the policy by confirming changes in medical use and supply behavior after 2 years. Methods: The National Health Insurance Service's national medical use database was used. As for the analysis method, first, the medical use and medical supply behavior change over the age of 65 years were confirmed, and second, in order to check the net effect of the policy, the 66-year-old as the experimental group and the 63-year-old as the control group were selected as the control group. The propensity score matching was performed using the variables of age, living alone, income quartile, residence, disability, chronic disease, and co-morbid disease scores, and then it was analyzed using the difference in difference analysis method. Results: The share of the number of treatments under 15,000 won decreased from 37.0% in 2017 to 20.2% in 2018, while the share of the number of treatments under 15,001-20,000 won increased from 8.0% to 22.7%. It was confirmed that the reason for the increase in the cost of treatment per treatment was the result of the increase in the amount of physical therapy and examination. As a result of the policy effect, the burden of co-payment per person was reduced, and as a result, the number of hospital visits per person and the total medical cost per person increased. Conclusion: The self-pay rate differential policy reduced the burden of medical expenses for the elderly and confirmed the increase in medical use. However, the interpretation of the increase in medical use was not able to distinguish whether the unsatisfactory medical care was satisfied or the inducement demand. Efficient allocation of resources is a more important point in the future when the super-aged society is in front. It is necessary to prepare a plan to induce rational medical use within a range that does not impair the medical accessibility of the elderly.

  • The major purpose of this study was to explore care giving experiences of mothers, who have their children with borderline intellectual functioning disorder. The core analytical strategy was to find out the essential meaning of caring their children. For this purpose, eight mothers were participated in depth interview, which conducted during October, 2011 through July 2012. The face-to-face interview repeated two or three times based on phenomenological perspective. The interview suggested two major findings: changing mother's view from raising retarded children to caregiving a child with growing-up substantially slow speed; the essence of nurturing experiences for mothers, whose children have borderline intellectual functioning, was to watching with attention rather than advocating ownership. This result can be also found in Barshow's concept of 'watching' rather than 'possession', which is suggested by Tennyson. However, the essential meaning of this concept was associated with 'watching with care', which was originated form Goethe's notion of 'existence'. Mother's of children with borderline intellectual functioning have reached a point of view: when creating a parent-child relationship, it was essential that the child was not 'my child', but was 'a child' per se. This type of parent-child relationship was a result of giving up a desire that the child raised within mother's boundary. It was also a result of psychological warfare and conflict in mother's mind. To internalized this view, it is recommended that the mothers implement the following three perspectives: first, the mothers put down overly-pushed motive toward their children; second, they enhance their level of understanding toward their child; third, it is necessary that the mothers build a new sense of existence through matching their level of concern with their children.

  • In this paper, a broadband planar monopole antenna for multi-band services is proposed. The physical size of the proposed antenna is miniaturized by folding a rectangular loop. And a resonance point in the 3.9 GHz band is reduced by a coupling phenomenon with the central part of the T-shaped patch and the folded rectangular loop. In addition, the T-shaped patch is inserted to the rectangular shaped monopole antenna due to deriving the broadband frequency characteristics. The frequency characteristic is optimized by adjusting the gap and length of the folded rectangular loops and a transverse diameter of the T-shaped patch. The antenna dimensions including the ground plane are $40{\times}60{\times}1.6mm^3$. It is fabricated on the FR-4 substrate(${\epsilon}_r$=4.4) using a microstrip line of $50{\Omega}$ for impedance matching. In the measured result, the bandwidth corresponding to the VSWR of 2:1 is 162 MHz(815~977 MHz) and 2,530 MHz(1.43~3.96 GHz). For analyzing the human effect by the proposed antenna, 1 g and 10 g averaged SARs are simulated and measured. As the simulated results, 1 g-averaged SAR is 1.044 W/kg, and 10 g-averaged SAR is 0.718 W/kg. This result are satisfied by the SAR guidelines which are 1.6 W/kg(1 g-averaged) and 2.0 W/kg(10 g-averaged).

  • This paper presents a rapid face shape acquisition system. The system is composed of two cameras and one projector. The technique works by projecting a pattern on the object and capturing two images with two cameras. We use a 'one shot' system which provides 3D data acquired by single image per camera. The system is good for rapid data acquisition as our purpose. We use the 'absolutely coded pattern' using the hue and saturation of pattern lines. In this 'absolutely coded pattern' all patterns have absolute identification numbers. We solve the correspondence problem between the two images by using epipolar geometry and absolute identification numbers. In comparison to the 'relatively coded pattern' which uses relative identification numbers, the 'absolutely coded pattern' helps obtain rapid 3D data by one to one point matching on an epipolar line. Because we use two cameras, we obtain two images which have similar hue and saturation. This enables us to have the same absolute identification numbers in both images, and we can use the absolutely coded pattern for solving the correspondence problem. The proposed technique is applied to face data and the total time for shape acquisition is estimated.
