A Study on the Jig - Saw Puzzle Matching (그림조각 맞추기에 관한 연구)

  • A jig-saw puzzle matching technique is proposed. Specifically, the geometric patterns of the puzzle pieces are firstly extracted using a boundary tracking algorithm at low resolution. And then, features of the extracted pieces to describe jig-saw puzzle pieces such as angles and distances between corner points, and convexity or concavity of a corner point are obtained from some corner points implying discontinuity of curvature of puzzle pieces' boundary. Finally, a boundary matching algorithm without a priori information of matched puzzle is proposed.

A Corner Matching Algorithm with Uncertainty Handling Capability

  • An efficient corner matching algorithm is developed to minimize the amount of calculation. To reduce the amount of calculation, all available information from a corner detector is used to make model. This information has uncertainties due to discretization noise and geometric distortion, and this is represented by fuzzy rule base which can represent and handle the uncertainties. Form fuzzy inference procedure, a matched segment list is extracted, and resulted segment list is used to calculate the transformation between object of model and scene. To reduce the false hypotheses, a vote and re-vote method is developed. Also an auto tuning scheme of the fuzzy rule base is developed to find out the uncertainties of features from recognized results automatically. To show the effectiveness of the developed algorithm, experiments are conducted for images of real electronic components.

  • Several photogrammetric and geographic information system applications such as surface matching, object recognition, city modeling, environmental monitoring, and change detection deal with multiple versions of the same surface that have been derived from different sources and/or at different times. Surface registration is a necessary procedure prior to the manipulation of these 3D datasets. This need is also applicable in the field of medical imaging, where imaging modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide temporal 3D imagery for monitoring disease progression. This paper will present a general automated surface registration procedure that can establish correspondences between conjugate surface elements. Experimental results using light detection and ranging (LIDAR) and MRI data will verify the feasibility, robustness, and accuracy of this approach.

  • In this paper, we proposed hand detection and hand gesture recognition from USB camera video. Firstly, we extract hand region extraction using skin color information from a difference images. Background image is initially stored and extracted from the input images in order to reduce problems from complex backgrounds. After that, 16-directional chain code sequence is computed from the tracking of hand motion. These chain code sequences are compared with pre-trained models using DP matching. Our hand gesture recognition system can be used to control PowerPoint slides or applied to multimedia education systems. We got 92% hand region extraction accuracy and 82.5% gesture recognition accuracy, respectively.

Hartley Transform Based Fingerprint Matching

  • The Hartley transform based feature extraction method is proposed for fingerprint matching. Hartley transform is applied on a smaller region that has been cropped around the core point. The performance of this proposed method is evaluated based on the standard database of Bologna University and the database of the FVC2002. We used the city block distance to compute the similarity between the test fingerprint and database fingerprint image. The results obtained are compared with the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) based method. The experimental results show that, the proposed method reduces the false acceptance rate (FAR) from 21.48% to 16.74 % based on the database of Bologna University and from 31.29% to 28.69% based on the FVC2002 database.

  • This paper proposes a new method to process panoramic image stitching using SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features). Panoramic image stitching is considered a problem of the correspondence matching. In computer vision, it is difficult to find corresponding points in variable environment where a scale, rotation, view point and illumination are changed. However, SURF algorithm have been widely used to solve the problem of the correspondence matching because it is faster than SIFT(Scale Invariant Feature Transform). In this work, we also describe an efficient approach to decreasing computation time through the homography estimation using RANSAC(random sample consensus). RANSAC is a robust estimation procedure that uses a minimal set of randomly sampled correspondences to estimate image transformation parameters. Experimental results show that our method is robust to rotation, zoom, Gaussian noise and illumination change of the input images and computation time is greatly reduced.

  • This paper presents a new template matching method for finding facial feature points. Instead of matching each template to its corresponding feature point separately the present method matches a set of element templates simultaneously. The set of templates can be placed on the space predefined by the geometrical characteristics of human faces. As a result, the search area for template matching is very small compared with a conventional method. This makes the presented method very robust and accurate. Experiment results show that the presented method results in good performance In various illuminance environments and poses.

  • This paper investigates the off-design performance of methane-fueled air turbo ramjet(ATR) engine in subsonic flight speed range. The ATR engine was modeled and simulated numerically. Each component was modeled to enable their off-design calculation. Compressor operating point was determined by flow matching with nozzle, and turbine by work matching. The ATR engine exhibited quite different off-design behavior compared to the conventional gas turbine engine.

  • Generally, the output matching circuit has the most influence to the output power of oscillator and existing method for output matching has difficulty for making the optimum output matching circuit because the matching has to be done nearby the infinite impedance area of the Smith Chart. In this paper, it is studied for the output matching circuit of the microwave oscillator to get the maximum output power. The maximum output point can be found by adjusting the position of moving short in the Tuner while the oscillator is operating after connect the 3-dB coupler Tuner to the oscillator without output matching circuit. To design the oscillator for the maximum output power can be done easily with the microstrip line which is realized from the measured S-parameters of Tuner. In compare the oscillator by the existing method with another one by the suggested method in this paper, the first one has 6.45 dBm output power and second one has 9.71 dBm which is 3.26 dBm higher than the first one at the oscillation frequency 1.0338 GHz.

  • Since MOLA(Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter) data, which provides altimetry data for Mars, does not cover the whole Mars area, image matching with MOC imagery should be implemented for the generation of DEM. However, automatic image matching is difficult because of insufficient features and low contrast. In this paper, we present the area based semi-automatic image matching algorithm with MOC-NA(Mars Orbiter Camera ? Narrow Angle) imagery. To accomplish this, seed points describing conjugate points are manually added for the stereo imagery, and interesting points are automatically produced by using such seed points. Produced interesting points being used as initial conjugate points, area based image matching is implemented. For the points which fail to match, the locations of initial conjugate points are recalculated by using matched six points and image matching process is re-implemented. The quality assessment by reversing the role of target and search image shows 97.5 % of points were laid within one pixel absolute difference.
