  • The main purpose of this investigation is to make up for the limitations of parcel addressing and to seek the application plan of cadastral triangulation point to effective installation of national index numbers. The test-bed has been constructed at the mountainous area located in Nowon-gu, seven cadastral triangulation points within the test-bed was directly applied to this investigation. Each points have been firstly converted from a plane rectangular coordinates to a single plane rectangular coordinates (UTM-K). To verify positioning results achieved from these points, a single plane rectangular coordinates through the Network-RTK was considered. With regards to verification result, maximum coordinate shift was revealed by 6 cm, this level of difference can be satisfied to Article 7, paragraph 2 "the regulation for National Index Number". This means that coordinate transformation applied with cadastral triangulation points can achieve the sastisfied result without local surveying. And also, remarkable effects have been created in terms of financial effectiveness and safe preservation of cadastral triangulation points due to the omission of local surveying.

  • Algorithm which can analyze the slope failure behavior utilizing the comprehensive information of the dense point of joint poles and the joint set orientations, both of which are obtained statistically, and the defect pattern of pole distribution has been developed. This method overcomes the potential incorrectness of the hemispheric projection method utilizing the joint set orientations only and also enhances the reliability of slope failure analysis. To this end a method capable of calculating the joint dispersion index directly from the joint pole distribution, instead of contour map, has been devised. The representative orientations for the slope failure analysis has been determined by considering the number and orientations of cone angle-dependent joint sets as well as the joint dispersion index. By engaging these representative orientations to the hemispheric projection analysis more reliable slope failure examination has been carried out. Sensitivity analysis for the potentially unstable slope of plane failure mode has been performed. Significance of joint strength index and the external seismic loading on the slope stability has been fully analyzed.

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study is to analyze difference in quality of life related to health according to our country's social stratification. Methods. This study had analytical subjects as 7,992 adults(4,557 men, 3,435 women), who are included in a variable by social stratification among 15,691 people in the age group of 20~69 years old as examinees, based on the 4th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Results. This study obtained the following results. First, seeing the score of health-related life quality by social stratification, namely, the distribution of EQ-5D index, the new middle class(class II) was the highest(men with 0.966 point, women with 0.955 point). The agricultural self-employed class(class V) was indicated to be the lowest(men with 0.918 point, women with 0.866 point). In general, the more belonging to low social stratification led to having shown the lower aspect in EQ-5D index value. Second, as for the results of the hierarchical regression analysis, the factors of contributing to difference by social stratification in health-related quality of life were chronic disease, job stress, education, and income level in both men and women. The health behavior was grasped to be a factor of contributing only to women. Conclusions. To reduce difference in health-related quality of life according to social stratification in the future, the continuous investment is needed for supporting socially high-quality education and economic stability. The sphere of health will need to be given priority to the prevention of chronic disease and the development in effective management policy for the lower classes.

  • The present study introduces a comparison between 3D R-tree and octree which are noticeable candidates to index large point clouds gathered from a 3D terrestrial laser scanner. A query method, which is to find neighboring points within given distances, was devised for the comparison, and time lapses for the query along with memory usages were checked. From tests conducted on point clouds scanned from a building and a stone pagoda, it was shown that octree has the advantage of fast generation and query while 3D R-tree is more memory-efficient. Both index and leaf capacity were revealed to be ruling factors to get the best performance of 3D R-tree, while the number of level was of oetree.

  • Polyalphaolefin (PAO) is a synthetic lubricant that is superior to mineral-based lubricants in the terms of physical and chemical characteristics such as low pour point, high viscosity index (VI), and thermal and oxidation stability. Several kinds of PAOs have been synthesized by using 1-pentene, 1-hexene, 1-octene, or 1-dodecene as monomer with three kinds of aluminum-based Lewis acid catalysts via cationic polymerization. The control of the catalytic performance and physical properties of PAO such like molecular weight, kinematic viscosity, pour point, and viscosity index was done by changing polymerization parameters. The alkyl aluminum halide-based catalysts show better catalytic activity than that of the conventional $AlCl_3$ catalyst. The microstructure of PAO was investigated by means of TOF-MS (time of flightmass spectroscopy) analysis in order to elucidate the correlation between the performances of the lubricant (VI, pour point) and the molecular structure of PAO. The VI of PAO increases with increases in the carbon number of ${\alpha}$-olefin. In other words, the performances of PAO as a lubricant strongly depended on the branch length of PAO.

  • Background: Monitoring terrestrial vegetation cover condition is important to evaluate its current condition and to identify potential vulnerabilities. Due to simplicity and low cost, point intercept method has been widely used in evaluating grassland surface and quantifying cover conditions. Field-based digital photography method is gaining popularity for the purpose of cover estimate, as it can reduce field time and enable additional analysis in the future. However, the caveats and uncertainty among field-based vegetation cover estimation methods is not well known, especially across a wide range of cover conditions. We compared cover estimates from point intercept and digital photography methods with varying sampling intensities (25, 49, and 100 points within an image), across 61 transects in typical steppe, forest steppe, and desert steppe in central Mongolia. We classified three photosynthetic groups of cover important to grassland ecosystem functioning: photosynthetic vegetation, non-photosynthetic vegetation, and bare soil. We also acquired normalized difference vegetation index from satellite image comparison with the field-based cover. Results: Photosynthetic vegetation estimates by point intercept method were correlated with normalized difference vegetation index, with improvement when non-photosynthetic vegetation was combined. For digital photography method, photosynthetic and non-photosynthetic vegetation estimates showed no correlation with normalized difference vegetation index, but combining of both showed moderate and significant correlation, which slightly increased with greater sampling intensity. Conclusions: Results imply that varying greenness is playing an important role in classification accuracy confusion. We suggest adopting measures to reduce observer bias and better distinguishing greenness levels in combination with multispectral indices to improve estimates on dry matter.

  • Despite the widespread use of GIS over the past ten years, it has been limited application for regional modeling of pollutant loadings such as sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorus(non-point source pollution), The goals of this study were to: select important processes and parameters of watersheds that contribute to non-point source pollution degradation, develop a ranking model to use the environmental geologic data and verify the model by comparing results with existing water quality data(Chung-ju Lake) for specific watersheds, The GIS database consisted of topography, geology, soils, precipitation, rainfall erosivity, land use, and watershed boundaries. The index(NPSP) for assessing non-point source pollution was comprised in the following three seperate components: soil loss index(SLI) assesses the potential soil erosion and sedim-ent delivery from field to stream; run-off potential ratio(R.P.R) predicts the potential production of surface runoff; chloropgyll-a index ranks the potential manure(animal or human) production within a watershed. The GIS model was a valuable tool to assess the impact of environmental pollation in watersheds.

  • Image taken in the night can be low-contrast images because of poor environment and image transmission. We propose an algorithm that improves the acquired low-contrast image. MPEG-2 separates chrominance and illuminance, and compresses respectively because human vision is more sensitive to luminance. We extracted illumination and used K-means algorithm to find a proper crossover point automatically. We used K-means algorithm in the viewpoint that the problem of crossover point selection can be considered as the two-category classification problem. We divided an image into two subimages using the crossover point, and applied the histogram equalization method respectively. We used the index of fuzziness to evaluate the degree of improvement. We compare the results of the proposed method with those of other methods.
