  • This paper performs two kinds of Field-Oriented Control (FOC) for dual three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (DTP-PMSM).The first is based on vector space decomposition to study the effect of current harmonics on electromechanical energy conversion. And the second presents the coupling relations between two sets of windings using two d-q transformation. And then this paper has deeply studied the differences between these two strategies, the different effect on the control of harmonic current and the reason for these differences. MATLAB-based Simulation studies of a 3KW DTP-PMSM are carried out to verify the analysis of differences between the two FOC strategies.

  • To achieve high performance speed regulation, a robust adaptive speed controller is proposed for the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) subject to parameter uncertainties and input saturations in this paper. A nonlinear adaptive control is introduced to compensate the PMSM speed tracking errors due to uncertainties, disturbances and control input saturation constraints. By combining the adaptive control and the nonlinear robust control based on the interconnection and damping assignment (IDA) strategy, a new robust adaptive control is designed for speed regulation of PMSM. Stability and robustness of the closed-loop control system involved with the constrained control inputs rather than unconstrained control inputs are validated. Simulations for PMSM control in the presence of uncertainties and saturations nonlinearities show that the proposed approach is effective to regulate speed, and the average tracking error using the proposed approach is at least 32% smaller than the compared methods.

  • The PMSM position sensor using two rectangular hall sensors can restrictively acquire the 90[$^{\circ}$] position information of rotor according to electrical angle. Thus, the control method using this position sensor cannot react properly to a rapid load torque change. On the other hand, even though a sensorless method has the advantage of acquiring instantaneous rotor position information, the accuracy of position sensor can be determined by the gain value of estimator. This paper suggests a robust speed control method on torque fluctuation condition, which combines low cost two rectangular hall sensors and sensorless control method.

  • In this paper, an advanced DTC(Direct Torque Control) scheme for PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) is presented. The proposed DTC method uses a conventional torque estimator and torque error. But the switching signal is generated by PWM method according to the switching rules and torque error. A simple calculation of PMW without any complex determination of space vector can assure the constant switching frequency with an excellent control performance. The proposed torque control scheme for PMSM is verified by computer simulation.

  • This paper deals with the analysis, design and implementation of an AC-DC Zeta converter in discontinuous current mode (DCM) of operation used for power quality improvement at AC mains in direct torque controlled (DTC) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. The designed Zeta converter feeds a direct torque controlled PMSM drive system. Modeling and simulation is carried out in a standard PSIM software environment. Test results are obtained on the developed prototype Zeta converter using DSP ADMC401. The results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of the Zeta converter in improving power quality at AC mains in the PMSM drive system.

  • Parametric uncertainties and inverter nonlinearity exist in the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system of electrical vehicles, which may lead to performance degradation or failure, and eventually threaten reliable operation. Therefore, a model-free deadbeat predictive current controller (MFDPCC) for PMSM drive systems is proposed in this study. The data-driven ultra-local model of a surface-mounted PMSM (SMPMSM) drive system that consists of parametric uncertainties and inverter nonlinearity is first established through the input and output data of a SMPMSM drive system. Subsequently, MFDPCC is designed. The performance comparisons and analyses of the proposed MFDPCC, the conventional proportional-integral controller, and the model-based deadbeat predictive current controller for SMPMSM drive systems are implemented via system simulation and experimental tests. Results show the effectiveness and technical advantages of the proposed MFDPCC.

  • This paper proposes a restarting method for extended electromotive force (EEMF)-based sensorless permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive systems. The sensorless PMSM drive systems generally estimate the rotor speed and angle based on EEMF. However, if the inverter is stopped while the PMSM is rotating, the initial rotor speed and angle are required for restart. Therefore, the proposed restarting method estimates the initial rotor speed and angle using the short-circuit current generated by applying zero voltage vector from the inverter. The validity of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experimental results.

  • This article explores the speed regulation problem of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) systems subjected to unknown time-varying disturbances. A continuous sliding mode control (CSMC) technique is introduced for the speed loop to enhance the robustness of PMSM systems and eliminate the chattering phenomenon caused by high-frequency switch function in the conventional control law. However, the high control gain of the CSMC law in the presence of strong disturbances leads to large steady-state speed fluctuations for PMSM systems. In many application fields, PMSM systems are affected by time-varying disturbances instead of constant disturbances. For example, electric bicycles are usually affected by changing environmental disturbances, including wind speeds, road conditions, etc. These disturbances may be in the form of constant, ramp, and parabolic disturbances. Hence, a generalized proportional integral (GPI) observer is employed to estimate these types of disturbances. Then, the disturbance estimation method and the aforementioned CSMC method are combined to establish a composite sliding mode control method called the CSMC+GPI method for the speed loop of PMSM systems. Contrary to the conventional sliding mode control technique, the proposed method completely eliminates the chattering phenomenon caused by the switching function in the conventional control law. Moreover, a small control gain for the CSMC+GPI method is chosen by feed-forwarding estimated values to the speed controller. Hence, the steady-state speed fluctuations are small. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified by simulation and experimental result.

  • This paper proposes a speed variable proportional resonant current control method for a single-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). Due to the electromagnetic characteristics of a single-phase PMSM, negative and zero torques are generated in the part corresponding to the phase difference between the stator current and the back electromotive force. In addition, overcurrent limitation is required because of the low stator resistance and inductance in sensorless operation. When using the vector control for current control of single-phase PMSM under these conditions, processes of coordinate transformation, inverse coordinate transformation, and generation of virtual dq-axis components are required. However, the proposed variable speed proportional resonant current control method does not need the coordinate transformation used for AC motors. In this paper, we have confirmed stable maneuverability by using variable proportional resonant current control algorithm, and proposed sensorless control based on a mathematical model of a single-phase PMSM without a position sensor when reaching a constant speed. The usefulness of the current control method was verified through several experiments.
