  • In this proposed work new finite element model for multi-delaminated plates is proposed. In the current analysis procedures of multi-delaminated plates, plate element based on Mindlin plate theory is used in order to obtain accurate results of out-of-plane displacement of thick plate. And for delaminated region, plate element based on Kirchhoff plate theory is considered. To satisfy the displacement continuity conditions, displacement vector based on Kirchhoff theory is transformed to displacement of transition element. The numerical results show that the effect of delaminations on the modal parameters of delaminated composites plates is dependent not only on the size, the location and the number of the delaminations but also on the mode number and boundary conditions. Kirchhoff based model have higher natural frequency than Mindlin based model and natural frequency of the presented model is closed to Mindlin based model.

  • The effects of stiffeners on the modal characteristics of rectangular plates are investigated. A modeling method for the modal analysis of rectangular plates with stiffeners is presented. A mass density Dirac's delta function is used to idealize the stiffeners mathematically. The equations of motion for the plates are derived and transformed into a dimensionless form. To confirm the accuracy of the method presented in this study, numerical result are obtained and compared to those of a commercial program. The mode shape variations due to some parameter variations are also exhibited.

  • The dynamic response of symmetric cross-ply and angle-ply composite laminated plates under impact loads is investigated using a higher order shear deformation theory. A modified Hertz law is used to predict the impact loads and a four node finite element is used to model the plate. By using a higer order shear deformation theory, the out-of-plane shear stresses, which can be a crucial factor in the failure of composite plates, are determined with significant accuracy. This is accomplished by using a stress recovery technique using the in-plane stresses. The results compared with previous investigations showed good agreement. It can be seen that this method of analyzing impact problems is more efficient than current three dimensional methods in terms of time and expense.

  • Thermopiezoelastic snap-through phenomena of piezolaminated plates are numerically investigated by applying a cylindrical arc-length scheme to Newton-Raphson method. Based on the layerwise displacement theory and von-Karman strain-displacement relationships, nonlinear finite element formulations are derived for thermopiezoelastic composite plates. From the static and dynamic viewpoint, nonlinear thermopiezoelastic behavior and vibration characteristics are studied for symmetric and eccentric structural models with various piezoelectric actuation modes. Present results show the possibility to enhance the performance of thermal structures using piezoelectric actuators and report new phenomena, namely thermopiezoelastic snapping, induced by the excessive piezoelectric actuation in the active suppression of thermally buckled large deflection of piezolaminated plates.

  • In the present work, the recently developed non-polynomial shear deformation theories are assessed for thermo-mechanical response characteristics of laminated composite plates. The applicability and accuracy of these theories for static, buckling and free vibration responses were ascertained in the recent past by several authors. However, the assessment of these theories for thermo-mechanical analysis of the laminated composite structures is still to be ascertained. The response characteristics are investigated in linear and non-linear thermal gradient and also in the presence and absence of mechanical transverse loads. The laminated composite plates are modelled using recently developed six shear deformation theories involving different shear strain functions. The principle of virtual work is used to develop the governing system of equations. The Navier type closed form solution is adopted to yield the exact solution of the developed equation for simply supported cross ply laminated plates. The thermo-mechanical response characteristics due to these six different theories are obtained and compared with the existing results.

  • The aim of the present paper deals with free vibration analysis of laminated composite skew plates with single and multiple cut-outs. For complete understanding of the dynamic behavior of laminated skew plates with cut-out a numerical analysis has been carried out by developing a computer code in FOTRAN. Special attention is drawn on the formulation of mass matrix by considering effect of rotary inertia. The results obtained by the finite element formulation using nine noded isoparametric plate bending element are validated by comparing the results from relevant published literature. Few new results on laminated skew plates with cut-out have been presented.

  • This paper is concerned with the experimental investigation of transverse vibration characteristics in water of rectangular plates having an inner free cutout. Systematic experiments are carried out to investigate effects of the surrounding water on the added mass and the natural frequency of the plates due to the changes of the aspect ratio, hole size and eccentricity. The main subject is the clamped rectangular plate with a circular hole. For the purpose of comparative evaluations, some other common-type boundary conditions and hole shapes such as ellipses and rectangles are also investigated. Some of the results obtain are as follows; 1) For each given aspect ratio of the plate, there is a hole area ratio which gives a minimum value of the nondimensional frequency parameter for each mode. The hole area ratio increases as the order number of the mode increases. 2) The nondimensinal mass-increment parameter decreases as the aspect ration or the order number of the mode increases. For each given aspect ratio, the parameter the fundamental mode decreases monotonically as the hole area ratio increase. In cases of the second and higher order modes, however, each mode has a hole area ratio which gives a maximum value of the parameter for each aspect ratio more then 2/3. 3) Comparing elliptic holes with rectangular ones with same hole area ratio, nondimensional frequency parameters are almost same for each given ratio of the shorter axises to the longer one. 4) The influences of difference in boundary condion on nondimensional frequency parameters in water are similar to those in air.

  • An original quasi-3D hyperbolic shear deformation theory for simply supported functionally graded plates is proposed in this work. The theory considers both shear deformation and thickness-stretching influences by a hyperbolic distribution of all displacements within the thickness, and respects the stress-free boundary conditions on the upper and lower surfaces of the plate without using any shear correction coefficient. By expressing the shear parts of the in-plane displacements with the integral term, the number of unknowns and equations of motion of the proposed theory is reduced to four as against five in the first shear deformation theory (FSDT) and common quasi-3D theories. Equations of motion are obtained from the Hamilton principle. Analytical solutions for dynamic problems are determined for simply supported plates. Numerical results are presented to check the accuracy of the proposed theory.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the SMD(Sauter mean diameter) with different vibrant plates. Each vibrant plates have different surface roughness. Also liquid film thickness are measured for explanation how to concern atomization. Ultrasonic waves is used for vibration. Immersion liquid method is used for the measure of SMD and also liquid film thickness is measured using of point needle method. Distilled water and gasoline fuel are used to liquids. Supplied liquid flow rates are $18{\sim}296cc/min$. Centerline average roughness of vibrant plates are 0.5, 2.0, 4.7, $9.5\;{\mu}m$ and diameter of vibrant plate is 60mm. In result, good atomization of liquid is obtained in widen flow rates. The mean droplet size is increased in orders of 4.7, 2.0. 9.5, $0.5\;{\mu}m$ surface roughness. Distilled water has a big mean droplet size than gasoline fuel in low flow rate. Above the 78cc/min flow rates, distilled water has a small mean droplet size than gasoline fuel. Liquid films changes are measured with ultrasonic power. Also, cavitation effect on sprays is observed.

  • This work presents a simple hyperbolic shear deformation theory for analysis of functionally graded plates resting on elastic foundation. The proposed model contains fewer number of unknowns and equations of motion than the first-order shear deformation model, but the transverse shear stresses account for a hyperbolic variation and respect the tangential stress-free boundary conditions on the plate boundary surface without introducing shear correction factors. Equations of motion are obtained from Hamilton's principle. The Navier-type analytical solutions for simply-supported plates are compared with the existing solutions to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed theory.
