A comprehensive analysis of horizontally polarized shear waves in a thin microstructural plate

  • Horizontally polarized shear waves (SH) have numerous applications in various scientific, engineering, and medical fields. The study deals with an investigation of SH-waves in a thin microstructural plate. The plate has been mathematically modelled by employing size dependent consistent couple stress theory, which involves a length parameter, known as characteristic length. Characteristic length is assumed to be of the order of internal microstructures of the material. Dispersion relations have been calculated for the propagation of SH-waves using different set of boundary conditions. Group velocity of the SH-waves has been calculated by using an analytical approach. The mathematical results obtained in the problem are discussed in detail and the impacts of characteristic length parameter and thickness of plate are presented on phase velocity of SH-waves through graphical illustrations.

  • 본 논문에서는 국내 선박해양플랜트연구소에 구축된 빙해수조의 빙특성 중에서 모형빙의 두께와 유효탄성계수 산출과정이 소개되었다. 수조에서 결빙되는 빙판은 크기가 가로 세로각각 30 m 정도에 두께는 40mm정도이다. 모형선의 실험결과를 쇄빙선 설계에 사용하기 위하여 빙 특성 정보가 필요하다. 사람이 빙판을 일부 절개하고 일일이 손으로 두께를 측정하는 것을 지양하기 위하여 초음파 기기를 사용하였는데 저주파 장비를 사용하여 작은 샘플 모형빙에 대한 두께는 계측되었다. 하지만 완벽한 계측을 위해서는 송수신 일체형 저주파 센서나 정확한 위치가 설정된 분리형 센서 혹은 고가의 특수 장치가 필요함을 확인하게 되었다. 한편 빙판의 처짐량을 간이식 LVDT로 계측하고 이를 탄성체 위에 놓인 무한 판의 특성길이 관계식에 대입하여 빙의 유효탄성계수를 산출하였는데 외국의 결과와 유사함이 입증되었다.

Analytical Asymptotic Solutions for Rectangular Laminated Composite Plates

  • An analytical solution for rectangular laminated composite plates was obtained via a formal asymptotic method. From threedimensional static equilibrium equations, the microscopic one-dimensional and macroscopic two-dimensional equations were systematically derived by scaling of the thickness coordinate with respect to the characteristic length of the plate. The onedimensional through-the-thickness analysis was performed by applying a standard finite element method. The derived twodimensional plate equations, which take the form of recursive equations, were solved under sinusoidal loading with simplysupported boundary conditions. To demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the present method, various types of composite plates were studied, such as cross-ply, anti-symmetric angle-ply and sandwich plates. The results obtained were compared to those of the classical laminated plate theory, the first-order shear deformation theory and the three-dimensional elasticity. In the present analysis, the characteristic length of each composite was dependent upon the layup configurations, which affected the convergence rate of the method. The results shown herein are promising that it can serve as an efficient tool for the analysis and design of laminated composite plates.

Laser Holography 기법에 의한 균열 박판의 결함 진전에 따른 진동 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Vibration Characteristic of Thin Plate in Crack Propagation by Laser Holography Method)

  • This paper presents the vibration characteristics of a rectangular plate with 45$^{\circ}$oblique crack and a smooth plate subjected to a uniaxial tension. The experiment is adopted by the time-average holography method. The natural frequency and mode shape are considered accurate according to the increasement of tensile load in the study. When tensile load is zero, the vibration modes are almost agreed with the smooth and the 45$^{\circ}$obliquely cracked plate. But since then, according to the increasement of load, it is shown that vibration modes are extremely varied. The effects of the crack length in the vibration characteristic are discussed in detail. It is indicated that the increase of the crack length makes the variation of the frequencies and modes complicate in the range of even a small load.

장방형 발열체가 부착된 채널에서 자연대류 연구 (Natural Cconvection in a Vertical Channel with Thermal Blocks)

  • The circuit board of an electronic equipment were simulated with a vertical channel which had thermal blocks protruded from one of the channel walls. A rought front plate was made of a circuit board attached with short wires to simulate the back side of a printed circuit board. Natural convection experiments were carried out to study the effects of channel space and rough front plate and to find the suitable characteristic value after the fourth row. The effect of a rough front plate was negligble. There were negligible effects of the channel space on the first and second heaters. Heat transfer coefficients after the third row decreased as the channel space decreased. Heat transfer coefficients were almost constant for larger than 20 mm channel space. A characteristic length was suggested to non-dimensionalize Nu and Ra numbers in a vertical channel with protruded heaters. A correlation was obtained using the new characteristic lengths.

빙해수조 모형빙판의 유효탄성계수 산출 (The Effective Young's Modulus of Model Ice Sheet in Ice Basin)

  • In this paper, the theory of rectangular plate on the elastic foundation is used to get the relation equation between the effective Young’s modulus and the ice sheet deflection by applying the characteristic length concept, since the model ice sheet is rectangular shape in KRISO (Korea Research Institute for Ships and Ocean Engineering) ice basin. The obtained relation equation is equal to that of using the circular plate theory. A device is made and used to measure the deflection of ice plate using LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) for several loading cases and the procedure of experiments measuring the deflection used for getting the Young’s modulus is explained. In addition, the flexural strength value obtained through flexural strength experiments is compared with that of finite element analysis using the obtained effective Young’s modulus. Also, a nonlinear FEA (Finite Element Analysis) of cantilever ice beam is done with eroding effect and LS-DYNA result shows the fracture of brittle ice under 1 mm/s velocity load.

  • 보강방법으로 많이 사용되고 있는 CFRP Plate 접착 공법은 보강된 부재의 내력 증가에 아주 효과적이나 에폭시를 이용하여 표면 부착하는 특성상 충분한 성능을 발휘하지 못하고 보강 판의 탈락으로 파괴에 이르는 조기파괴(premature failure)의 파괴 특성을 보인다. 이러한 보강 실험체의 파괴 특성은 철근비, 콘크리트 강도, 보강재 종류, 보강길이, 접착제인 에폭시의 물성 등의 변수들에 의해 영향을 받는다. 본 연구에서는 CFRP Plate로 휨 보강된 RC 보의 구조적 거동 및 보강재 조기 탈락에 대한 보완으로 보강 CFRP-Rod를 이용한 표면매립공법의 휨 성능효과를 보기 위하여 수행된 실험결과를 비교 고찰한다. CFRP Plate 외부부착 공법을 적용한 RC 보강보의 주요 변수로는 보강재 길이, 보강위치(보의 인장면 및 측면), 단부 보강철물 유무 등의 실험변수로, CFRP-Rod는 보강재 길이를 변수로 하여 실험을 수행하였다.

  • This paper reports about the successful suspension of a glass plate by electrostatic forces. In order to implement a stable suspension, the electrostatic forces exerted on the glass plate are actively controlled on the basis of the gap lengths between the glass plate and the stator electrodes. In this paper, the dynamic model of the suspension system and the influence of the resistivity of glass on the system stability are described, followed by stator electrode design, the experimental apparatus and a stabilizing controller. Experimental results show that the glass plate can be suspended at a gap length of about 0.3 mm. The influence of air humidity on the suspension initiation time, and the lateral dynamic characteristic are also described.

  • This paper deals with the design of a disk-type motor excited by permanent magnets. The main flux is oriented in the axial direction, yielding a pan cake type arrangement. the outer diameter is about 65mm, inner diameter is about 30mm, the axial length about 15mm. For reduce axial length and high efficiency, motor winding have been etched copper plate. After the introduction, the motor design is explained and characteristic of axial flux permanent magnet motor have been investigated. A prototype AFPM motor have been assembled and driving power supply are made. A characteristic of magnetical and electrical and characteristic are investigated.

Multi-National Integrated Car-License Plate Recognition System Using Geometrical Feature and Hybrid Pattern Vector

  • In this paper, we have proposed license plate recognition system for multi-national vehicle license plate using geometric features along with hybrid and seven segment pattern vectors. In the proposed system, we suggested to find horizontal and vertical relation after going through preparation process with inputted real-time license plate image of Korea and Japan, and then to classify license plate with using characteristic and geometric information of license plates. It classifies the extracted license plate images into letters and numbers, such as local name, local number, classification character and license consecutive numbers, and recognize license plate of Korea and Japan by applying hybrid and seven segments pattern vectors to classified letter and number region. License plate extraction step of the proposed system uses width and length information along with relative rate of Korean and Japanese license plate. Moreover, it exactly segmentation by letters with using each letter and number position information within license plate region, and recognizes Korean and Japanese license plates by applying hybrid and seven segment pattern vectors, containing characteristics related to letter size and movement within segmented letter area. As the result of testing the proposed system in real experiment, it recognized regardless of external lighting conditions as well as classifying license plates by nations, Korea and Japan. We have developed a system, recognizing regardless of inputted structural character of vehicle licenses and external environment.
