  • In order to estimate the utilization pattern of a rural health subcenter, and to identify the recognition for it among the inhabitants in Kogsung district, a questionnaire survey was carried out for objects of 708 population. The results observed were as follows; 1. The annual utilization rate of a rural health subcenter for a basic health service unit was 27.5 per 100 persons, and annual mean visiting times was 1.43 times. 2. The most frequent disease by, annual health subcenter utilization illness was respiratory disease(26.5%), and the next was musculoskeletal disease(23.9%), gastrointestinal disease(15.9%) by order. 3. Favorite reasons for community health subcenter utilization were lower medical cost(23.4%), near distance from living place(20.7%) and lower disease severity(19.5%) by order. But disfavorite reasons for it were non effective treatment(26.2%), insufficient equipment(25.4%) and absence of specialist(17.4%) by order. 4. Insufficient items about community health subcenter utilization were restriction of treatment limit(47.1%), lower reliance(22.4%) and not punctral(21.8%) by order. 5. The results of logistic regression analysis suggested that statistically significant factors in health subcenter utilization were age, educational level and the nearest medical facility class. 6. There was no difference between recognition for a community health subcenter's work and actual utilizing service, and desirable works for it were disease preventing service, disease control of elderly and sanitation control by order. These results suggested that to increase the utilization of rural health subcenter and to promote the accessibility of rural residents to primary health care, there must be considered public relation about health subcenter, expansion of health equipment and recognition about access time.

  • Pressure sores are a serious concerns in that respect to increasing risk of medical complications and medical costs. Prevention and care of pressure sores is an essential area of nursing practice. The nurse at ICU should be more careful of maintaining the skin integrity of patients especially than at any other place. This study was conducted to determine if the risk facotrs of pressure sores and nutritional status of the patients at risk for pressure sores is related the occurance of pressure sore. The risk group refers the patients having the below 14 scores of the braden scale. The 100 subjects were recruited from the ICU ward at an university hospital in Choongnam. The parameters for nutritional status are the blood chemistry including plasma protein, albumin, hemoglobin and the anthropometric measurements consisting of weight, BMI, LBM, the proportion of body fat, body fluid and triceps skin fold using bioimpedence analizer and caliper. The results are as follows : 1. The subjects were 55 years and stayed 8 days on average. Of the 100 subjects, males were 61%, neurologic/neurosurgical diseases were 68% and the incidence of pressure sores was 17% mainly occuring within 3days after the admission. 2. The present paralysis(or paraplegia) and edema(arm, leg, trunk) were showed more significantly the subjects with pressure sores than those without pressure sores. 3. Regarding with the nutritional status, the subjects with pressure sores had significantly lower the weight, BMI, LBM, body fluid, albumin than the ones without pressure sores. This results were supported the reports of previous studies that the decreased weight and albumin could be the important predictors of pressure sores. Thereafter we should encourage these factors to be utilized in predicting pressure sores for a comprehensive assessment. Nurse should identify patients at risk of the development of pressure sores, assess their nutritional status and dietary intake at regular intervals.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the species of iron compounds in kaolin mineral and the bonding relation between the major kaolin and its subordinate iron compound existing as incidental mineral in common clay by means of chemical composition, X-ray diffraction, thermal differential and thermogravimetrie analysis for the application of clays in the field of ceramic raw material. The domestic clay are produced abounduntly in many places, but San-Cheong kaolin, Chu-An clay, and Yeong-Am clay were selected as samples in this experiment because of their frequent utilization in porcelain industry. Two kinds of samples with low and high iron content are picked up respectively from the place of production and elutriated under two micron size to determine the properties and concentration of iron compound very fine particles or colloidal substance of low crystalline grade. Therefore, hydrothermal treatment in autoclave was conducted considering the existence of low crystalline grade of iron compounds known as an amorphoue state in X-ray diffraction pattern furthermore, de-iron treatment of hydrothermal compound was done in order to identify the related iron compound before and after hydrothermal reaction and iron compound which is one of the samples was synthesized for the determination of their compounds state in more detail. The obtained results in this study are as follows: In San-Cheong kaolin, Chu-An clay and Yeong-Am clay 1) It is proved that species accompanying iron compound is $\alpha$-FeOOH form. 2) Iron compound is composed of very fine particles or colloidal substance. 3) The iron substance encircles the fine parts of clay minerals under 2 micron and acts as cementizing agent.

  • Proteins interact with each other within a cell, and those interactions give rise to the biological function and dynamical behavior of cellular systems. Generally, the protein interactions are temporal, spatial, or condition dependent in a specific cell, where only a small part of interactions usually take place under certain conditions. Recently, although a large amount of protein interaction data have been collected by high-throughput technologies, the interactions are recorded or summarized under various or different conditions and therefore cannot be directly used to identify signaling pathways or active networks, which are believed to work in specific cells under specific conditions. However, protein interactions activated under specific conditions may give hints to the biological process underlying corresponding phenotypes. In particular, responsive functional modules consist of protein interactions activated under specific conditions can provide insight into the mechanism underlying biological systems, e.g. protein interaction subnetworks found for certain diseases rather than normal conditions may help to discover potential biomarkers. From computational viewpoint, identifying responsive functional modules can be formulated as an optimization problem. Therefore, efficient computational methods for extracting responsive functional modules are strongly demanded due to the NP-hard nature of such a combinatorial problem. In this review, we first report recent advances in development of computational methods for extracting responsive functional modules or active pathways from protein interaction network and microarray data. Then from computational aspect, we discuss remaining obstacles and perspectives for this attractive and challenging topic in the area of systems biology.

  • The purposes of the study was to identify customers' satisfaction factors regarding foods and services in food courts in big department stores and discount stores in Seoul and Cheonan. A survey of 235 customers was conducted regarding customer satisfaction levels and factors of food and services. Customers' perceived level of attributes were identified into eight underlying dimensions by factor analysis as follows: factor 1 was "cleanliness": factor 2 "service quality": factor 3 "accuracy": factor 4 "atomosphere": factor 5 "food quality": factor 6 "menu information": factor 7 "price" and the eighth factor was "food result". Regression analysis indicated that "cleanliness" was found to be the most important factor contributing to customers' overall satisfaction. There were significant differences in customers' perceived satisfaction level of "food quality"(p<0.01), "accuracy", and "price" factors(p<0.05) between department stores and discount store. The customers' perceived satisfaction levels of "accuracy", "food quality" and "price" factor at a large store food court are higher than those of department store food court. Comparing location of food court, there were significant differences in customers' perceived satisfaction level of "accuracy" and "price" factors between in Seoul and Cheonan(p<0.001). The customers' perceived satisfaction levels of "accuracy" and "price" at the discount store in Seoul are lower than those of food court at Cheonan. It is suggested that the management should pay attention to the sanitation of their dinning halls, kitchens, hygienic dishes, hygienic water fountain, employee hygiene, and a proper place to put used dishes to increase the customers' satisfaction.

  • Background: There is little information on longitudinal patterns of participation in faecal occult blood test (FOBT) based colorectal cancer (CRC) screening or on demographic or behavioural factors associated with participation in re-screening. The lack of an agreed system for describing participatory behaviour over multiple rounds also hampers our ability to report, understand and make use of observed associations. Our aims were to develop a system for describing patterns of participatory behaviour in FOBT-based CRC screening programs and to identify factors associated with particular behavioural patterns. Methods: A descriptive framework was developed and applied to a data extract of screening invitation outcomes over two rounds of the NBCSP. The proportion of invitees in each behaviour category was determined and associations between behaviour patterns and demographic and program factors were identified using multivariate analyses. Results: We considered Re-Participants, Dropouts, Late Entrants and Never Participants to be the most appropriate labels for the four possible observed participatory categories after two invitation rounds. The screening participation rate of the South Australian cohort of the NBCSP remained stable over two rounds at 51%, with second round Dropouts (10.3%) being balanced by Late Entrants (10.5%). Non-Participants comprised 38.7% of invitees. Relative to Re-Participants, Dropouts were older, more likely to be female, of lower SES, had changed their place of residence between offers had a positive test result in the first round. Late Entrants tended to be in the youngest age band. Conclusions: Specific demographic characteristics are associated with behavioural sub-groups defined by responses to 2 offers of CRC screening. Targeted group-specific strategies could reduce dropout behaviour or encourage those who declined the first invitation to participate in the second round. It will be important to keep first round participants engaged in order to maximise the benefit of a CRC screening program.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify characteristics of children and adolescents who were victims of sexual assault in Korea. Methods: The subjects were 60 children and adolescents who visited the one-stop center as victims of sexual assault. The medical records of victims of sexual trauma were retrospectively reviewed. We studied the demographic data of the victims, their relationship to their perpetrator, the characteristics of the assault (frequency, duration, place, type), and the process from sexual assault to treatment. We also paid special attention to how the characteristics of the victims or perpetrators affected the characteristics of the assault or follow-up treatment. Results: There were several differences between sexual assaults committed by strangers and those committed by acquaintances. Sexual assaults committed by acquaintances lasted for a longer period of time than those committed by strangers. In addition, it took more time for victims of sexual assaults committed by acquaintances to seek treatment than those who were victims of sexual assaults committed by strangers. The majority (55.0%) of victims were between 10 and 15 years of age. Forty percent of the perpetrators were teenagers, and two of them were under the age of 10. Voluntary discontinuation of treatment was more frequent in adolescents than in children. Conclusion: All teenage victims of sexual assault need some sort of urgent intervention. In addition, approachable methods are needed in order to prevent sexual abuse by strangers or acquaintances.

  • This paper presents an experimental study of friction and wear properties of a unidirectional oriented continuous crbon-fiber reinforced epoxy composite at the ambient temperature. Friction and wear experiments were conducted in the three principal sliding direction of the fiber orientation in the composite were selected against the stainless steel counterpart specularly processed were using a pin -on-disc apparatus. Friction coefficient and specific wear rate at various normal loads and sliding velocities wear determined. When sliding took place against smooth and hard counterpart, the hightest were resistance and the lowest friction coefficient were observed in the anti-parallel direction. The wear track of the worn specimens was examined with a scanning electron microscope(SEM) to observe the damaged fibers on the surface. In addition, SEM observations of the worn surfaces allowed to identify the involved different wear mechanisms.

  • How would technoscientists collaborate in their technoscientific practices? Based on the ethnographic research done at NRI(Neuroscience Research Institute), this research shows how collaboration occurs in/outside the interdisciplinary laboratory. As previous studies show, collaboration makes researches possible that otherwise would have been impossible. Korean technoscientists who are situated in the scientific periphery, practice contextualized collaboration in their labs. These collaborations are invisible before opening the black box of the lab. But it acquires visibility after certain incidents such as collaborations, debates and discussions, malfunctioning of the instruments, and networking with other actors occur. These networks again become invisible after the certain incidents end. However these blackboxing and whiteboxing (opening the blackbox) processes occur simultaneously in various levels, it is almost impossible to identify them separately. In real technoscientific practices, blackboxing and whiteboxing do not occur distinctively. They almost always occur at the same time on multi-layered levels, hence forming the 'grey box' of technoscientific practices. Lastly, collaborations inside laboratory have in/visible features, because laboratories function as Foucauldian heterotopias.
